Spin-1/2 Ising-Heisenberg model with the pair XYZ Heisenberg interaction and quartic Ising interactions as the exactly soluble zero-field eight-vertex model
The spin-1/2 Ising-Heisenberg model with the pair XYZ Heisenberg interaction
and quartic Ising interactions is exactly solved by establishing a precise
mapping relationship with the corresponding zero-field (symmetric) eight-vertex
model. It is shown that the Ising-Heisenberg model with the ferromagnetic
Heisenberg interaction exhibits a striking critical behavior, which manifests
itself through re-entrant phase transitions as well as continuously varying
critical exponents. The changes of critical exponents are in accordance with
the weak universality hypothesis in spite of a peculiar singular behavior to
emerge at a quantum critical point of the infinite order, which occurs at the
isotropic limit of the Heisenberg interaction. On the other hand, the
Ising-Heisenberg model with the antiferromagnetic Heisenberg interaction
surprisingly exhibits less significant changes of both critical temperatures as
well as critical exponents upon varying a strength of the exchange anisotropy

Exact evidence for the spontaneous antiferromagnetic long-range order in the two-dimensional hybrid model of localized Ising spins and itinerant electrons
The generalized decoration-iteration transformation is adopted to treat
exactly a hybrid model of doubly decorated two-dimensional lattices, which have
localized Ising spins at their nodal lattice sites and itinerant electrons
delocalized over pairs of decorating sites. Under the assumption of a half
filling of each couple of the decorating sites, the investigated model system
exhibits a remarkable spontaneous antiferromagnetic long-range order with an
obvious quantum reduction of the staggered magnetization. It is shown that the
critical temperature of the spontaneously long-range ordered quantum
antiferromagnet displays an outstanding non-monotonic dependence on a ratio
between the kinetic term and the Ising-type exchange interaction.Comment: 8 pages, 6 figure
Knowledge brokering between researchers and policymakers in Fiji to develop policies to reduce obesity: a process evaluation
The importance of using research evidence in decision making at the policy level has been increasingly recognized. However, knowledge brokering to engage researchers and policymakers in government and non-government organizations is challenging. This paper describes and evaluates the knowledge exchange processes employed by the Translational Research on Obesity Prevention in Communities (TROPIC) project that was conducted from July 2009 to April 2012 in Fiji. TROPIC aimed to enhance: the evidence-informed decision making skills of policy developers; and awareness and utilization of local and other obesity-related evidence to develop policies that could potentially improve the nation’s food and physical activity environments. The specific research question was: Can a knowledge brokering approach advance evidence-informed policy development to improve eating and physical activity environments in Fiji. <br /

Community-based knowledge transfer and exchange: Helping community-based organizations link research to action
<p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Community-based organizations (CBOs) are important stakeholders in health systems and are increasingly called upon to use research evidence to inform their advocacy, program planning, and service delivery efforts. CBOs increasingly turn to community-based research (CBR) given its participatory focus and emphasis on linking research to action. In order to further facilitate the use of research evidence by CBOs, we have developed a strategy for community-based knowledge transfer and exchange (KTE) that helps CBOs more effectively link research evidence to action. We developed the strategy by: outlining the primary characteristics of CBOs and why they are important stakeholders in health systems; describing the concepts and methods for CBR and for KTE; comparing the efforts of CBR to link research evidence to action to those discussed in the KTE literature; and using the comparison to develop a framework for community-based KTE that builds on both the strengths of CBR and existing KTE frameworks.</p> <p>Discussion</p> <p>We find that CBR is particularly effective at fostering a climate for using research evidence and producing research evidence relevant to CBOs through community participation. However, CBOs are not always as engaged in activities to link research evidence to action on a larger scale or to evaluate these efforts. Therefore, our strategy for community-based KTE focuses on: an expanded model of 'linkage and exchange' (<it>i.e</it>., producers and users of researchers engaging in a process of asking and answering questions together); a greater emphasis on both producing and disseminating systematic reviews that address topics of interest to CBOs; developing a large-scale evidence service consisting of both 'push' efforts and efforts to facilitate 'pull' that highlight actionable messages from community relevant systematic reviews in a user-friendly way; and rigorous evaluations of efforts for linking research evidence to action.</p> <p>Summary</p> <p>Through this type of strategy, use of research evidence for CBO advocacy, program planning, and service delivery efforts can be better facilitated and continually refined through ongoing evaluations of its impact.</p
Dynamic correlations in an ordered c(22) lattice gas
We obtain the dynamic correlation function of two-dimensional lattice gas
with nearest-neighbor repulsion in ordered c(22) phase
(antiferromagnetic ordering) under the condition of low concentration of
structural defects. It is shown that displacements of defects of the ordered
state are responsible for the particle number fluctuations in the probe area.
The corresponding set of kinetic equations is derived and solved in linear
approximation on the defect concentration. Three types of strongly correlated
complex jumps are considered and their contribution to fluctuations is
analysed. These are jumps of excess particles, vacancies and flip-flop jumps.
The kinetic approach is more general than the one based on diffusion-like
equations used in our previous papers. Thus, it becomes possible to adequately
describe correlations of fluctuations at small times, where our previous theory
fails to give correct results. Our new analytical results for fluctuations of
particle number in the probe area agree well with those obtained by Monte Carlo

Tetrazine-Triggered Release of Carboxylic-Acid-Containing Molecules for Activation of an Anti-inflammatory Drug.
In addition to its use for the study of biomolecules in living systems, bioorthogonal chemistry has emerged as a promising strategy to enable protein or drug activation in a spatially and temporally controlled manner. This study demonstrates the application of a bioorthogonal inverse electron-demand Diels-Alder (iEDDA) reaction to cleave trans-cyclooctene (TCO) and vinyl protecting groups from carboxylic acid-containing molecules. The tetrazine-mediated decaging reaction proceeded under biocompatible conditions with fast reaction kinetics (<2 min). The anti-inflammatory activity of ketoprofen was successfully reinstated after decaging of the nontoxic TCOprodrug in live macrophages. Overall, this work expands the scope of functional groups and the application of decaging reactions to a new class of drugs
Understanding factors associated with the translation of cardiovascular research: A multinational case study approach

We built an international consortium and developed a multinational case study approach to assess benefits arising from health research. We used that to facilitate analysis of factors in the production of research that might be associated with translating research findings into wider impacts, and the complexities involved. Methods: We built on the Payback Framework and expanded its application through conducting co-ordinated case studies on the payback from cardiovascular and stroke research in Australia, Canada and the United Kingdom. We selected a stratified random sample of projects from leading medical research funders. We devised a series of innovative steps to: minimize the effect of researcher bias; rate the level of impacts identified in the case studies; and interrogate case study narratives to identify factors that correlated with achieving high or low levels of impact. Results: Twenty-nine detailed case studies produced many and diverse impacts. Over the 15 to 20 years examined, basic biomedical research has a greater impact than clinical research in terms of academic impacts such as knowledge production and research capacity building. Clinical research has greater levels of wider impact on health policies, practice, and generating health gains. There was no correlation between knowledge production and wider impacts. We identified various factors associated with high impact. Interaction between researchers and practitioners and the public is associated with achieving high academic impact and translation into wider impacts, as is basic research conducted with a clinical focus. Strategic thinking by clinical researchers, in terms of thinking through pathways by which research could potentially be translated into practice, is associated with high wider impact. Finally, we identified the complexity of factors behind research translation that can arise in a single case. Conclusions: We can systematically assess research impacts and use the findings to promote translation. Research funders can justify funding research of diverse types, but they should not assume academic impacts are proxies for wider impacts.
