Preliminary Report on the Milking Machine
With a view of testing the practicability of the milking machine, the South Dakota experiment station, two years ago last February, installed the Hazelwood milking machines in the college dairy barn. These machines, with the exception of one day out of each month when the machine milked cows were milked by hand, and also in a few instances when the gasoline, engine used for power underwent repairs, have been in continuous operation since that time, or for nearly two and one-half years. The cows were milked by hand one day of each month to ascertain the approximate production of individual cows. The Hazelwood machine milks two cows at a time, and has no partition in the pail. Two machines were installed, as one man can attend to two as well as to one. The data on hand at the present time are not complete, but on account of the demand for information regarding milking machines, this preliminary report giving the results to date with this particular make of milking machine is issued
Thermal partition function of photons and gravitons in a Rindler wedge
The thermal partition function of photons in any covariant gauge and
gravitons in the harmonic gauge, propagating in a Rindler wedge, are computed
using a local -function regularization approach. The correct Planckian
leading order temperature dependence is obtained in both cases. For the
photons, the existence of a surface term giving a negative contribution to the
entropy is confirmed, as earlier obtained by Kabat, but this term is shown to
be gauge dependent in the four-dimensional case and, therefore is discarded. It
is argued that similar terms could appear dealing with any integer spin in the massless case and in more general manifolds. Our conjecture is
checked in the case of a graviton in the harmonic gauge, where different
surface terms also appear, and physically consistent results arise dropping
these terms. The results are discussed in relation to the quantum corrections

flavors and colors. One-loop calculations predict a first-order phase

Binding Energy of Hydrogen-Like Impurities in Quantum Well Wires of InSb/GaAs in a Magnetic Field
The binding energy of a hydrogen-like impurity in a thin size-quantized wire of the InSb/GaAs semiconductors with Kane’s dispersion law in a magnetic fieldBparallel to the wire axis has been calculated as a function of the radius of the wire and magnitude ofB, using a variational approach. It is shown that when wire radius is less than the Bohr radius of the impurity, the nonparabolicity of dispersion law of charge carriers leads to a considerable increase of the binding energy in the magnetic field, as well as to a more rapid growth of binding energy with growth ofB
A Comparison of Components of Written Expression Abilities in Learning Disabled and Non-Learning Disabled Students at Three Grade Levels
Although written language plays a critical role in academic success, little empirical evidence exists on the normal development of processes involved in producing written products. Even less is known about the writing performance of LD children. This study empirically compared the written products of LD and normal students at three grade levels on The Test of Written Language.
