I Intend to Rewrite and Supplement All Published Genealogical Books...: A Letter of V. V. Rummel to V. V. Golubtsov

The article offers a source analysis of the only surviving letter written by the famous genealogist, author of the two-volume Genealogical collection of Russian noble families, Witold Vladislavovich Rummel to his co-author on this collection, the Perm landowner, amateur local historian and genealogist Vladimir Vladimirovich Golubtsov, dated July 29, 1884 and sent from Simansky Log, his St. Petersburg estate, to the Urals. It is stored in the personal provenance fond of the Perm landowners Golubtsovs in the State Archive of Sverdlovsk Region. Written in the early days of the two well-known genealogists acquaintance, it contains information on ways the two specialists exchanged specific genealogical information, complementing each other's data on the history of well- and little-known genealogic trees, mostly in some way related to the Golubtsov family. The letter allows to gain an impression of Rummel's literary taste and to partially reconstruct the structure of Witold's library: it lists 18 books used by the genealogist, when compiling genealogical lists, and thus demonstrates Rummel's sources. Finally, Rummel shared his plans for the publication of the collection and invited Vladimir Vladimirovich to send him any new data to complement the published materials on the noble families. It was after this letter that the Perm researcher seriously thought about the possibility of publishing his work and offered Rummel to act as his collaborator and companion and to finance the publication. Thus, this document marks a beginning of joint work on preparation and publication of the Genealogical collection of Russian noble families, the book still considered quite authoritative in studying genealogy of noble families, as it provided the scientific methodology and greatly expanded the possibilities of genealogical research

On the basis of archival materials - letters of a metropolitan fine lady, wife of co-owner of Sysertsky plants (Perm province) Yekaterina Aleksandrovna Solomirskaya, written in the middle of the 19th century from the province (Sysertsky plant or Yekaterinburg) to her father in Moscow, the Moscow postal director A. Ya. Bulgakov, - daily life of a noblewoman, who grew up and shined in society, and subsequently trapped in the Ural province, is reconstructed. The process of adaptation of metropolitan lady to provincial life, the change of her value orientations, lifestyle, everyday matters, circle of friends and interests is discussed. The relevance of the work is due to the turn of world humanitarian knowledge to the anthropological paradigm of research, the desire to rethink approaches to the reconstruction of the past, close attention to the life and work of certain members of the upper class as carriers of cultural values of Russian society, as well as the unexplored daily life of the provincial nobility. Analysis of the Ural archival materials in these aspects refutes the well-established opinion that the nobles did not live in the Urals

Diffusion and ballistic contributions of the interaction correction to the conductivity of a two-dimensional electron gas

The results of an experimental study of interaction quantum correction to the conductivity of two-dimensional electron gas in A3_3B5_5 semiconductor quantum well heterostructures are presented for a wide range of TΟ„T\tau-parameter (Tτ≃0.03βˆ’0.8T\tau\simeq 0.03-0.8), where Ο„\tau is the transport relaxation time. A comprehensive analysis of the magnetic field and temperature dependences of the resistivity and the conductivity tensor components allows us to separate the ballistic and diffusion parts of the correction. It is shown that the ballistic part renormalizes in the main the electron mobility, whereas the diffusion part contributes to the diagonal and does not to the off-diagonal component of the conductivity tensor. We have experimentally found the values of the Fermi-liquid parameters describing the electron-electron contribution to the transport coefficients, which are found in a good agreement with the theoretical results.Comment: 11 pages, 11 figure

Hole-hole interaction in a strained Inx_xGa1βˆ’x_{1-x}As two dimensional system

The interaction correction to the conductivity of 2D hole gas in strained GaAs/Inx_xGa1βˆ’x_{1-x}As/GaAs quantum well structures was studied. It is shown that the Zeeman splitting, spin relaxation and ballistic contribution should be taking into account for reliable determination of the Fermi-liquid constant F0ΟƒF_0^\sigma. The proper consideration of these effects allows us to describe both th temperature and magnetic field dependences of the conductivity and find the value of F0ΟƒF_0^\sigma.Comment: 7 pages, 6 figure

Interband mixing between two-dimensional states localized in a surface quantum well and heavy hole states of the valence band in narrow gap semiconductor

Theoretical calculations in the framework of Kane model have been carried out in order to elucidate the role of interband mixing in forming the energy spectrum of two-dimensional carriers, localized in a surface quantum well in narrow gap semiconductor. Of interest was the mixing between the 2D states and heavy hole states in the volume of semiconductor. It has been shown that the interband mixing results in two effects: the broadening of 2D energy levels and their shift, which are mostly pronounced for semiconductors with high doping level. The interband mixing has been found to influence mostly the effective mass of 2D carriers for large their concentration, whereas it slightly changes the subband distribution in a wide concentration range.Comment: 12 pages (RevTEX) and 4 PostScript-figure

Fragmentation channels of relativistic 7^7Be nuclei in peripheral interactions

    Get PDF
Nuclei of 7^7Li were accelerated at the JINR Nuclotron. After the charge-exchange reaction involving these nuclei at an external target a second 7^7Be beam of energy 1.23A GeV was formed. This beam was used to expose photo-emulsion chambers. The mean free path for inelastic 7^7Be interactions in emulsion Ξ»\lambda=14.0Β±\pm0.8 cm coincides within the errors with those for 6^6Li and 7^7Li nuclei. More than 10% of the 7^7Be events are associated with the peripheral interactions in which the total charge of the relativistic fragments is equal to the charge of the 7^7Be and in which charged mesons are not produced. An unusual ratio of the isotopes is revealed in the composition of the doubly charged 7^7Be fragments: the number of 3^3He fragments is twice as large as that of 4^4He fragments. In 50% of peripheral interactions, a 7^7Be nucleus decays to two doubly charged fragments. The present paper gives the channels of the 7^7Be fragmentation to charged fragments. In 50% of events, the 7^7Be fragmentation proceeds only to charged fragments involving no emission of neutrons. Of them, the 3^3He+4^4He channel dominates, the 4^4He+d+p and 6^6Li+pchannels constitute 10% each. Two events involving no emission of neutrons are registered in the 3-body 3^3He+t+p and 3^3He+d+d channels. The mean free path for the coherent dissociation of relativistic 7^7Be nuclei to 3^3He+4^4He is 7Β±\pm1 m. The particular features of the relativistic 7^7Be fragmentation in such peripheral interactions are explained by the 3^3He+4^4He 2-cluster structure of the 7^7Be nucleus.Comment: 10 pages, 3 figures, 3 tables, conference: Conference on Physics of Fundamental Interactions, Moscow, Russia, 5-9 Dec 200
