Perceived uncertainty as a moderator of workrelated expectancies and goals of real estate salespersons

The effect of perceived uncertainty as a moderator of work-related expectancies and goals of real-estate salespersons was examined. The effect of tenure as a moderator of these relationships was studied, as well as the effects of uncertainty and tenure on perceived differences in the amount of effort required to meet income goals under changing economic conditions. Additionally, Kopelman’s (1977) return on effort construct was tested in an organizational setting. The results generally provided weak support or none at all for the hypothesized relationships between uncertainty, motivation, goals, effort and tenure. Possible explanations for these results were (a) unique characteristics of the population from which the sample was drawn, and (b) differences in measured dimensions of uncertainty from those previously reported in the literature (Ferris, 1978). A supplementary analysis and discussion of results is found in Appendix B. Post hoc analysis of the data suggested that ability and attributional strategies are moderators of the relationships between uncertainty, motivation, goals, effort and tenure

The Relationship Between Stress, Satisfaction, and Emotional Intelligence in College Students

    Get PDF
The relationship between stress and satisfaction has been well documented. However, little is known about the possible mediating effect that emotional intelligence may have on that relationship. This study addressed the role emotional intelligence plays between stress and satisfaction. By collecting measures of stress, life satisfaction, satisfaction with school, and emotional intelligence, this researcher examined the question Does emotional intelligence serve as a moderator in the relationship between satisfaction and stress? Results indicated that, after removing the effects of stress, emotional intelligence and satisfaction demonstrated a positive significant relationship. Emotional intelligence was related to the Big Five factors of Conscientiousness, Extraversion, and Emotional Stability. No relationship was found between stress and life or college satisfaction. The results suggest that if college students can utilize emotional intelligence as a coping mechanism in the college environment, they will experience greater satisfaction that could then lead to a more positive college experience for the student and possibly a decreased rate of attrition for universities

Social Media in High School Athletics: Recommendations for Individual and Organizational Branding in a Digital Age

    Get PDF
High school athletics have soared to new heights in recent years. With millions of dollars invested into the media coverage and promotion of amateur athletes and high schools, it is important to be mindful of an individual’s and organization’s brand image in the Digital Age. The purpose of this project is to analyze communication and branding strategies from professional and collegiate athletics, and tailor those findings into a sustainable brand strategy for high school athletics. Ten in-depth interviews were conducted with collegiate and professional athletic communicators, collegiate student-athletes, and other members of the sporting community. Findings suggested that an organization’s brand image will continue to be a valuable recruiting tool for student-athletes, but an individual’s brand, prior to collegiate athletics, will rarely affect his or her ability to be recruited. In all, brand strategies should appeal to an individual’s or organization’s target audience(s).Master of Art

Induction of nitric oxide synthase in rat immune complex glomerulonephritis

Induction of nitric oxide synthase in rat immune complex glomerulonephritis. Nitric oxide (NO) is a biological mediator which is synthesized from L-arginine by a family of nitric oxide synthases (NOS). Previously we have shown that NO is synthesized ex vivo by glomeruli obtained from animals with acute immune complex glomerulonephritis. We have now sought evidence for the in vivo induction of NOS in glomeruli by immunohistochemistry using specific antisera raised against a peptide sequence of inducible mouse macrophage NOS and by in situ hybridization. The expression of the enzyme was studied in kidneys of rats with acute unilateral immune complex glomerulonephritis, induced by cationized IgG, by immunohistochemistry. Inducible NOS (iNOS) was present in glomeruli in nephritic (left) kidneys at the time of maximum macrophage infiltration, both within intraglomerular mononuclear cells and cells emigrating into Bowman's space. iNOS expressing cells were also present in interstitial infiltrates. There was no expression in normal rat kidneys or in glomeruli in the non-nephritic (right) kidneys of experimental rats. In situ hybridization confirmed the immunohistochemical localization. These results provide the first direct evidence for the presence and localization of inducible NOS in glomeruli and support a significant role for NO in the pathogenesis of immune complex glomerulonephritis
