The projective indecomposable modules for the restricted Zassenhaus algebras in characteristic 2

It is shown that for the restricted Zassenhaus algebra W=W(1,n)\mathfrak{W}=\mathfrak{W}(1,n), n>1n>1, defined over an algebraically closed field F\mathbb{F} of characteristic 2 any projective indecomposable restricted W\mathfrak{W}-module has maximal possible dimension 22n−12^{2^n-1}, and thus is isomorphic to some induced module indtW(F(μ))\mathrm{ind}^{\mathfrak{W}}_{\mathfrak{t}}(\mathbb{F}(\mu)) for some torus of maximal dimension t\mathfrak{t}. This phenomenon is in contrast to the behavior of finite-dimensional simple restricted Lie algebras in characteristic p>3p>3

    Ivabradine (Procoralan)

peer reviewedIvabradine (Procoralan), a new If inhibitor which acts specifically and in a dose-dependent manner on the pacemaker activity of the sinoatrial node, is a pure heart rate lowering agent. It slows the diastolic depolarization slope of sinoatrial node cells and reduces heart rate at rest and during exercise. It has shown anti-ischaemic and anti-anginal activity at recommended doses of 5 and 7.5 mg bid in patients with stable angina. Ivabradine is as effective as atenolol and amlodipine to prevent or attenuate exercise-induced ischaemia in these patients. It is well tolerated, with transient visual symptoms being the main drug-related adverse event. These symptoms may be linked to the presence in the retina of ion channels similar to cardiac If channels and did not adversely affect the tolerability of the drug for most patients. In Belgium, ivabradine is currently reimbursed in patients with stable angina and normal sinus rhythm who do not tolerate beta-blockers and non-dihydropyridine calcium antagonists or in whom these treatments are contra-indicated

Il pianeta in mare, directed by Andrea Segre (2019)

Porto Marghera, one of the largest industrial areas in Italy, and one of the most important European chemical hubs, was founded in 1918, just 5 km from the centre of Venice. The city had no more land, so they decided to fill the swamps of the lagoon: an area of 2000 hectares was created, with 40 km of roads, 135 km of railway lines and 18 km of navigable canals. This is the century-old heritage of Marghera explored by Andrea Segre in "Il pianeta in mare" [A Planet in the Sea], where contemporary and images of the past reveal the contradictions of such a peculiar microcosm

From Vlasov fluctuations to the BGL kinetic equation

This paper shows that the spatially homogeneous Balescu-Guernsey-Lenard kinetic equation is associated, at least formally, with a stochastic process that arises naturally as the N →∞ limit of a certain N-particle Hamiltonian system. The process describes the long-time motion of a particle traveling in a Vlasov fluctuation field. The Fokker-Planck equation for the process coincides with the Balescu-Guernsey-Lenard equation whenever the solution is analytic in the velocity variables, but should also be considered as a model in its own right

A comparison of techniques to detect similarities in cloud virtual machines

    Get PDF
Scalability in monitoring and management of cloud data centres may be improved through the clustering of virtual machines (VMs) exhibiting similar behaviour. However, available solutions for automatic VM clustering present some important drawbacks that hinder their applicability to real cloud scenarios. For example, existing solutions show a clear trade-off between the accuracy of the VMs clustering and the computational cost of the automatic process; moreover, their performance shows a strong dependence on specific technique parameters. To overcome these issues, we propose a novel approach for VM clustering that uses Mixture of Gaussians (MoGs) together with the Kullback-Leiber divergence to model similarity between VMs. Furthermore, we provide a thorough experimental evaluation of our proposal and of existing techniques to identify the most suitable solution for different workload scenarios
