Implementing voluntary smoke-free entryways at agricultural companies in Salinas : employers\u27 attitudes and responses : Senior Capstone Project
This project aims for the implementation of the voluntary smoke-free entryways program at agricultural companies in Salinas, Monterey County. A second goal is to achieve a better understanding of the agricultural employers\u27 attitudes toward smoke-free workplace policies. The project included an intervention, a follow-up survey, the creation of a database of survey responses, and an analysis of survey data. One-quarter of companies accepted our request to implement the smoke-free entryways policy. Companies gave various reasons for accepting or declining to participate in the program. Survey responses and existing research suggested that agricultural employers were less interested relative to those in the service sector apparently because more of their employees smoke. The size of the company was found to have no relationship to its owner\u27s attitude toward this issue

Computation of transient viscous flows using indirect radial basis function networks
In this paper, an indirect/integrated radial-basis-function network (IRBFN) method is further developed to solve transient partial differential equations (PDEs) governing fluid flow problems. Spatial derivatives are discretized using one- and two-dimensional IRBFN
interpolation schemes, whereas temporal derivatives are
approximated using a method of lines and a finite-difference technique. In the case of moving interface problems, the IRBFN method is combined with the level set method to capture the evolution of the interface. The accuracy of the method is investigated by considering several benchmark test problems, including the classical lid-driven cavity flow. Very accurate results are achieved using relatively low numbers of data points
Tracking excited states in wave function optimization using density matrices and variational principles
We present a method for finding individual excited states' energy stationary
points in complete active space self-consistent field theory that is compatible
with standard optimization methods and highly effective at overcoming
difficulties due to root flipping and near-degeneracies. Inspired by both the
maximum overlap method and recent progress in excited state variational
principles, our approach combines these ideas in order to track individual
excited states throughout the orbital optimization process. In a series of
tests involving root flipping, near-degeneracies, charge transfers, and double
excitations, we show that this approach is more effective for state-specific
optimization than either the naive selection of roots based on energy ordering
or a more direct generalization of the maximum overlap method. Furthermore, we
provide evidence that this state-specific approach improves the performance of
complete active space perturbation theory. With a simple implementation, a low
cost, and compatibility with large active space methods, the approach is
designed to be useful in a wide range of excited state investigations.Comment: 13 pages, submitted to JCT
A UML Model of the Client Tracking System at the Learning Enrichment Foundation in Toronto, Canada: A Study of System Specifications and Use Case Diagrams
This study attempts to apply UML concepts to design UML diagrams that reflect the functional processes within the Client Tracking System (CTS) of a community service organisation. This paper represents Part I of a case study of the UML model for designing the CTS at the Learning Enrichment Foundation (LEF) in Toronto, Canada by Tran (2007). It investigates the task of constructing the design elements for CTS that can be used to manage the client information within LEF. Specifically, this paper investigates the system requirements in association with business and user needs, and use case diagrams of CTS. Furthermore, this investigation represents the UML model of the existing CTS at LEF. Through a study of how the CTS has been structured and how it operates, we may learn lessons that may be useful in other community networks serving significant immigrant communities
