Predator-mediated genotypic shifts in a prey population: experimental evidence
We demonstrate the effect of fish predation on genotype frequencies in a laboratory population composed of two Daphnia magna clones, with historically contrasting exposures to fish predation. The two clones differed in their responsiveness to predation via differential avoidance/escape behavior. The clone which coexists with fish in nature is more responsive to the presence of a fish predator, while the clone not exposed to fish predation does not exhibit the defensive reaction. Fish caused a rapid (within 18 h) and significant shift in Daphnia clonal composition, from 1:1 to 8:1, in favor of the responsive clone. Genotype-specific defensive abilities (modus defendi) can contribute greatly to the phenomenon of genotype replacement under selective predation
Negative capacitance in organic semiconductor devices: bipolar injection and charge recombination mechanism
We report negative capacitance at low frequencies in organic semiconductor
based diodes and show that it appears only under bipolar injection conditions.
We account quantitatively for this phenomenon by the recombination current due
to electron-hole annihilation. Simple addition of the recombination current to
the well established model of space charge limited current in the presence of
traps, yields excellent fits to the experimentally measured admittance data.
The dependence of the extracted characteristic recombination time on the bias
voltage is indicative of a recombination process which is mediated by localized

Polyfluorene as a model system for space-charge-limited conduction
Ethyl-hexyl substituted polyfluorene (PF) with its high level of molecular
disorder can be described very well by one-carrier space-charge-limited
conduction for a discrete set of trap levels with energy 0.5 eV above
the valence band edge. Sweeping the bias above the trap-filling limit in the
as-is polymer generates a new set of exponential traps, which is clearly seen
in the density of states calculations. The trapped charges in the new set of
traps have very long lifetimes and can be detrapped by photoexcitation. Thermal
cycling the PF film to a crystalline phase prevents creation of additional

Characterisation of an n-type segmented BEGe detector
A four-fold segmented n-type point-contact "Broad Energy" high-purity
germanium detector, SegBEGe, has been characterised at the Max-Planck-Institut
f\"ur Physik in Munich. The main characteristics of the detector are described
and first measurements concerning the detector properties are presented. The
possibility to use mirror pulses to determine source positions is discussed as
well as charge losses observed close to the core contact

Production Mechanism for Quark Gluon Plasma in Heavy Ion Collisions
A general scheme is proposed here to describe the production of semi soft and
soft quarks and gluons that form the bulk of the plasma in ultra relativistic
heavy ion collisions. We show how to obtain rates as a function of time in a
self consistent manner, without any ad-hoc assumption. All the required
features - the dynamical nature of QCD vacuum, the non-Markovian nature of the
production, and quasi particle nature of the partons, and the importance of
quantum interference effects are naturally incorporated. We illustrate the
results with a realistic albeit toy model and show how almost all the currently
employed source terms are unreliable in their predictions. We show the rates in
the momentum space and indicate at the end how to extract the full phase-space

Luttinger-liquid-like transport in long InSb nanowires
Long nanowires of degenerate semiconductor InSb in asbestos matrix (wire
diameter is around 50 \AA, length 0.1 - 1 mm) were prepared. Electrical
conduction of these nanowires is studied over a temperature range 1.5 - 350 K.
It is found that a zero-field electrical conduction is a power function of the
temperature with the typical exponent .
Current-voltage characteristics of such nanowires are found to be nonlinear and
at sufficiently low temperatures follows the power law . It
is shown that the electrical conduction of these nanowires cannot be accounted
for in terms of ordinary single-electron theories and exhibits features
expected for impure Luttinger liquid. For a simple approximation of impure LL
as a pure one broken into drops by weak links, the estimated weak-link density
