Extensive bladder herniation is rare. We hereby present a case of scrotal cystocele with chronic renal failure. It was managed successfully by initial nephrostomies and then definitive corrective surgery

Background:. To compare the thunder-beat device with bipolar diathermy in surgical outcome of tonsillectomy. Methods: In this prospective study 75 patients who underwent tonsillectomy on one side using thunder beat device and on the other side using bipolar diathermy, were included . The intra-operative blood loss, operative time, post-operative pain and post-operative haemorrhage were taken for analysis in both the surgical procedures. Results: Among the seventy five patients, the age groups ranged from 19-36 years with mean age 25.36+/-5.54 years. Out of 75 patients, 21 were male and 54 were female. The comparison of operation time and intra-operative blood loss between thunder- beat and bipolar diathermy showed statistically significant differences. The comparison of pain score showed statistically significant result with better pain results in bipolar diathermy whereas the secondary haemorrhage was common in thunder beat device. Conclusion: The thunder-beat use in tonsillectomies is less time consuming with decreased intra-operative blood loss. But, the post-operative pain is more as compared to bipolar diathermy. Though, it is safe and effective in performing tonsillectomy but its cost is the main drawback for its regular use

Congenital clitoromegaly is common, but acquired clitoromegaly due to neurofibroma is rare. Here we present a case report of Neurofibroma presenting as clitoromegaly. A 7 year female had history of painless clitoromegaly since 3 years. Her hormonal assays and radiological examination of abdomen and pelvis did not reveal any abnormality. She was subjected to clitoroplasty for correction of clitoromegaly

Upregulation of Isoflavonoids and Soluble Proteins in Edible Legumes by Light and Fungal Elicitor Treatments

Objective: In this study, our working hypothesis was that continuous light and fungal elicitation treatment of legume seedlings would lead to enhanced levels of isoflavonoids and soluble proteins. Results: Based on short-term light and dark treatments, isoflavonoid (genistein, genistin, daidzein, and daidzin) and soluble protein concentrations were significantly upregulated in the "light" environment compared to the "dark" environment for all edible legume species (kudzu vine, soybean, garbanzo bean, fava bean, mung bean, adzuki bean) that were tested. Kudzu seedlings showed the highest levels of both isoflavonoids and soluble proteins after light-elicited upregulation compared to the other legumes analyzed. All legumes showed less up-regulation of isoflavonoid synthesis when treated with Phytophtora sojae fungal elicitor. Oligosaccharide fungal elicitor caused no such upregulation. Conclusions: The findings in this study show that edible legume seedlings have enhanced levels of isoflavonoids and soluble proteins when they are grown in the light compared to the conventional practice of growing such seedlings in the dark. This will clearly result in significant improvement in their nutritive and medicinal value.Peer Reviewedhttp://deepblue.lib.umich.edu/bitstream/2027.42/63222/1/107555303765551598.pd

REACTIVE POWER COMPENSATION AND VOLTAGESTABILIZATION FOR WIND POWER IN A WEAK DISTRIBUTION NETWORK

One of the most promising alternate sources of energy is wind energy. Energy of the wind is converted to electrical energy in wind farms and is then connected to a weak distribution network to supply local loads. Most wind farms use induction generators for electricity generation. These induction generators draw excessive reactive power for their operation and this causes shortage of reactive power in the system and leads to voltage collapse. This problem is simulated on PSCAD/EMTDC platform. For static compensation, capacitor banks are used and for dynamic compensation, Static Var Compensators (SVCs) are used
