DVCS on spinless nuclear targets in impulse approximation

    Get PDF
Within the impulse approximation, we derive expressions for the amplitude of deeply virtual Compton scattering on spinless nuclei in terms of the generalized parton distributions of the nucleon. As an application, nuclear effects in the beam-charge and single-spin asymmetries are discussed.Comment: 13 pages, 2 figures, Late

Single crystal XRD study of 4,4'-dipyridyl - p-ethoxybenzoic acid and N,N'-dipyridylpiperazine - p-ethoxybenzoic acid co-crystals: Direct evidence of H-bond interaction in the corresponding liquid-crystalline mesogenic phases

    Get PDF
Supramolecular H-bonded complexes formed between p-ethoxybenzoic acid and 4,4'-dipyridyl or N,N'-dipyridylpiperazine were obtained as nematic liquid-crystalline phases. The corresponding crystals suitable for single crystal X-ray analysis were isolated and investigated. The stoichiomtery of complex 1 is (4,4'-dipyridyl)-2(p-ethoxybenzoic acid) and that of complex 2 is (N,N'-dipyridylpiperazine)-2(p-ethoxybenzoic acid). The molecular packing observed in the crystal structures investigated indicates that the mesogenic phases of the complexes are induced by H-bond interactions

Neutron structure function and inclusive DIS from H-3 and He-3 at large Bjorken-x

A detailed study of inclusive deep inelastic scattering (DIS) from mirror A = 3 nuclei at large values of the Bjorken variable x is presented. The main purpose is to estimate the theoretical uncertainties on the extraction of the neutron DIS structure function from such nuclear measurements. On one hand, within models in which no modification of the bound nucleon structure functions is taken into account, we have investigated the possible uncertainties arising from: i) charge symmetry breaking terms in the nucleon-nucleon interaction, ii) finite Q**2 effects neglected in the Bjorken limit, iii) the role of different prescriptions for the nucleon Spectral Function normalization providing baryon number conservation, and iv) the differences between the virtual nucleon and light cone formalisms. Although these effects have been not yet considered in existing analyses, our conclusion is that all these effects cancel at the level of ~ 1% for x < 0.75 in overall agreement with previous findings. On the other hand we have considered several models in which the modification of the bound nucleon structure functions is accounted for to describe the EMC effect in DIS scattering from nuclei. It turns out that within these models the cancellation of nuclear effects is expected to occur only at a level of ~ 3%, leading to an accuracy of ~ 12 % in the extraction of the neutron to proton structure function ratio at x ~ 0.7 -0.8$. Another consequence of considering a broad range of models of the EMC effect is that the previously suggested iteration procedure does not improve the accuracy of the extraction of the neutron to proton structure function ratio.Comment: revised version to appear in Phys. Rev. C; main modifications in Section 4; no change in the conclusion

    Determination of nuclear parton distributions

    Get PDF
Parametrization of nuclear parton distributions is investigated in the leading order of alpha_s. The parton distributions are provided at Q^2=1 GeV^2 with a number of parameters, which are determined by a chi^2 analysis of the data on nuclear structure functions. Quadratic or cubic functional form is assumed for the initial distributions. Although valence quark distributions in the medium x region are relatively well determined, the small x distributions depend slightly on the assumed functional form. It is difficult to determine the antiquark distributions at medium x and gluon distributions. From the analysis, we propose parton distributions at Q^2=1 GeV^2 for nuclei from deuteron to heavy ones with the mass number A~208. They are provided either analytical expressions or computer subroutines for practical usage. Our studies should be important for understanding the physics mechanism of the nuclear modification and also for applications to heavy-ion reactions. This kind of nuclear parametrization should also affect existing parametrization studies in the nucleon because "nuclear" data are partially used for obtaining the optimum distributions in the "nucleon".Comment: 16 pages, REVTeX4b5, revtex4.cls, url.sty, natbib.sty, 10pt.rtx, aps.rtx, revsymb.sty, 21 eps figures. By analyzing the data sets of 17.3, 6.5 and 1.0 pb1^{-1} taken, respectively, at s=3.773\sqrt s= 3.773, 3.650 and 3.6648 GeV with the BES-II detector at the BEPC collider, we measure the observed cross sections for e+eπ+ππ0π0e^+e^-\to \pi^+\pi^-\pi^0\pi^0, K+Kπ0π0K^+K^-\pi^0\pi^0, 2(π+ππ0)2(\pi^+\pi^-\pi^0), K+Kπ+ππ0π0K^+K^-\pi^+\pi^-\pi^0\pi^0 and 3(π+π)π0π03(\pi^+\pi^-)\pi^0\pi^0 at the three energy points. Based on these cross sections we set the upper limits on the observed cross sections and the branching fractions for ψ(3770)\psi(3770) decay into these final states at 90% C.L..Comment: 7 pages, 2 figure

    Using 5.8×107J/ψ5.8 \times 10^7 J/\psi events collected in the BESII detector, the radiative decay J/ψγϕϕγK+KKS0KL0J/\psi \to \gamma \phi \phi \to \gamma K^+ K^- K^0_S K^0_L is studied. The ϕϕ\phi\phi invariant mass distribution exhibits a near-threshold enhancement that peaks around 2.24 GeV/c2c^{2}. A partial wave analysis shows that the structure is dominated by a 0+0^{-+} state (η(2225)\eta(2225)) with a mass of 2.240.02+0.030.02+0.032.24^{+0.03}_{-0.02}{}^{+0.03}_{-0.02} GeV/c2c^{2} and a width of 0.19±0.030.04+0.060.19 \pm 0.03^{+0.06}_{-0.04} GeV/c2c^{2}. The product branching fraction is: Br(J/ψγη(2225))Br(η(2225)ϕϕ)=(4.4±0.4±0.8)×104Br(J/\psi \to \gamma \eta(2225))\cdot Br(\eta(2225)\to \phi\phi) = (4.4 \pm 0.4 \pm 0.8)\times 10^{-4}.Comment: 11 pages, 4 figures. corrected proof for journa
