    Configuration interaction in delta-doped heterostructures

    Get PDF
We analyze the tunnel coupling between an impurity state located in a δ\delta-layer and the 2D delocalized states in the quantum well (QW) located at a few nanometers from the δ\delta -- layer. The problem is formulated in terms of Anderson-Fano model as configuration interaction between the carrier bound state at the impurity and the continuum of delocalized states in the QW. An effect of this interaction on the interband optical transitions in the QW is analyzed. The results are discussed regarding the series of experiments on the GaAs structures with a δ\delta-Mn layer.Comment: arXiv admin note: substantial text overlap with arXiv:1111.089

Adiabatic Temperature Changes at Structural and Magnetic Phase Transitions in Ni45Mn43CoSn11 at High Magnetic Fields

    Get PDF
The adiabatic temperature change (Δ Tad) in Ni45Mn43CoSn11 has been measured by a direct method in magnetic field changes up to 14 T. Large reversible magnetocaloric effects resulting in Δ Tad of about =-11 and 5 K have been observed for magnetic field changes of 14 T at the magnetostructural (TA ∼ 260 K) and magnetic transitions (TC ∼ 320 K), respectively. The impact of the thermomagnetic history on Δ Tad at high magnetic fields has been reported. The significant observed changes in the relaxation time of Δ Tad, depending on the type of the phase transitions, magnetization, and demagnetization cycle are discussed

It is known that structure of the interface between inorganic nanoparticles and polymers significantly influences properties of a polymer–inorganic composite. At the same time, amount of experimental researches on the structure and properties of material near the inorganic-polymer interface is low. In this work, we report for the first time the investigation of nanomechanical properties and maps of adhesion of material near the inorganic-polymer interface for the polyheteroarylene nanocomposites based on semi-crystalline poly[4,4′-bis (4″-aminophenoxy)diphenyl]imide 1,3-bis (3′,4-dicarboxyphenoxy) benzene, modified by ZrO2 nanostars. Experiments were conducted using quantitative nanomechanical mapping (QNM) mode of atomic force microscopy (AFM) at the surface areas where holes were formed after falling out of inorganic particles. It was found that adhesion of AFM cantilever to the polymer surface is higher inside the hole than outside. This can be attributed to the presence of polar groups near ZrO2 nanoparticle. QNM measurements revealed that polymer matrix has increased rigidity in the vicinity of the nanoparticles. Influence of ZrO2 nanoparticles on the structure and thermal properties of semi-crystalline polyheteroarylene matrix was studied with wide-angle X-ray scattering, scanning electron microscopy, and differential scanning calorimetry.Russian Science Foundation, grant 16-13-1016

Comparing magnetostructural transitions in Ni50Mn18.75Cu6.25Ga25 and Ni49.80Mn34.66In15.54 Heusler alloys

The crystal structure, magnetic and transport properties, including resistivity and thermopower, of Ni50Mn18.75Cu6.25Ga25 and Ni49.80Mn34.66In15.54 Heusler alloys were studied in the (10-400) K temperature interval. We show that their physical properties are remarkably different, thereby pointing to different origin of their magnetostructural transition (MST). A Seebeck coefficient (S) was found to pass minimum of about -20 μV/K in respect of temperature for both compounds. It was shown that MST observed for both compounds results in jump-like changes in S for Ga-based compound and jump in resistivity of about 20 and 200 μΩ cm for Ga and In -based compounds, respectively. The combined analyzes of the present results with that from literature show that the density of states at the Fermi level does not change strongly at the MST in the case of Ni-Mn-In alloys as compared to that of Ni-Mn-Ga

Multifunctional properties related to magnetostructural transitions in ternary and quaternary Heusler alloys

In this report, the results of a study on the effects of compositional variations induced by the small changes in concentrations of the parent components and/or by the substitution of Ni, Mn, or In by an extra element Z, on the phase transitions, and phenomena related to the magnetostructural transitions in off-stoichiometric Ni-Mn-In based Heusler alloys are summarized. The crystal structures, phase transitions temperatures, and magnetic and magnetocaloric properties were analyzed for representative samples of the following systems (all near 15 at% indium concentration): Ni-Mn-In, Ni-Mn-In-Si, Ni-Mn-In-B, Ni-Mn-In-Cu, Ni-Mn-In-Cu-B, Ni-Mn-In-Fe, Ni-Mn-In-Ag, and Ni-Mn-In-Al

Unexpected Temperature Behavior of Polyethylene Glycol Spacers in Copolymer Dendrimers in Chloroform

We have studied copolymer dendrimer structure: carbosilane dendrimers with terminal phenylbenzoatemesogenic groups attached by poly(ethylene) glycol (PEG) spacers. In this system PEG spacers areadditional tuning to usual copolymer structure: dendrimer with terminal mesogenic groups. Thedendrimer macromolecules were investigated in a dilute chloroform solution by 1H NMR methods(spectra and relaxations). It was found that the PEG layer in G = 5 generations dendrimer is “frozen”at high temperatures (above 260 K), but it unexpectedly becomes “unfrozen” at temperatures below250 K (i.e., melting when cooling). The transition between these two states occurs within a smalltemperature range (~10 K). Such a behavior is not observed for smaller dendrimer generations (G = 1and 3). This effect is likely related to the low critical solution temperature (LCST) of PEG and is caused bydendrimer conformations, in which the PEG group concentration in the layer increases with growing G.We suppose that the unusual behavior of PEG fragments in dendrimers will be interesting for practicalapplications such as nanocontainers or nanoreactors.</p
