Influence of solvent granularity on the effective interaction between charged colloidal suspensions

We study the effect of solvent granularity on the effective force between two charged colloidal particles by computer simulations of the primitive model of strongly asymmetric electrolytes with an explicitly added hard sphere solvent. Apart from molecular oscillating forces for nearly touching colloids which arise from solvent and counterion layering, the counterions are attracted towards the colloidal surfaces by solvent depletion providing a simple statistical description of hydration. This, in turn, has an important influence on the effective forces for larger distances which are considerably reduced as compared to the prediction based on the primitive model. When these forces are repulsive, the long-distance behaviour can be described by an effective Yukawa pair potential with a solvent-renormalized charge. As a function of colloidal volume fraction and added salt concentration, this solvent-renormalized charge behaves qualitatively similar to that obtained via the Poisson-Boltzmann cell model but there are quantitative differences. For divalent counterions and nano-sized colloids, on the other hand, the hydration may lead to overscreened colloids with mutual attraction while the primitive model yields repulsive forces. All these new effects can be accounted for through a solvent-averaged primitive model (SPM) which is obtained from the full model by integrating out the solvent degrees of freedom. The SPM was used to access larger colloidal particles without simulating the solvent explicitly.Comment: 14 pages, 16 craphic

    Le théâtre d'Androïdes

    No full text

Pravi dnevniki, npr. Strindbergov Inferno ali Tolstojev Iz mojega življenja, so bili zelo priljubljeni in bralci so jih razumeli kot način kar najbolj verodostojnega poročanja, kot primer pravega, neponarejenega življenja. Dnevniške in pisemske črtice so na mnogo manjšem formatu, imenovanem \u27list iz dnevnika\u27, skušale zajeti prav to atmosfero avtentičnosti in pri tem pripeljale do paradoksa: s posebnimi literarnimi strategijami so se trudile, da bi bile videti kar najmanj literarne in izmišljene, tj. kar najbolj podobne realnemu dokumentu življenja. The paper deals with a phenomenon that has been little discussed before: it seems that between the two World Wars the short story was often shaped by certain Slovenian authors (e.g. Slavko Grum, Ludvik Mrzel, France Bevk, Marija Kmetova, Milen Mohorič) like a fictional diary or a fictional letter. Actual diaries, e.g. those by Tolstoy or Strindberg, were very popular at the time and readers understood them as the ultimate mode of authetic reporting, as an example of real life, something not made up. The diary short stories, having a much smaller scale than the diaries proper and therefore sometimes calling themselves \u27a leaf from a diary\u27, tried to capture this very atmosphere of authenticity and by so doing they eventually reached a paradox: they employed special and elaborate literary strategies to look as unliterary, as close to a real document of life as possible

Od Preglja do Gruma (Slovenska ekspresionistična dramatika)

Članek ob upoštevanju temeljnih raziskav o slovenskem literarnem ekspresionizmu, ki so danes večinoma že opravljene, pretrese dramatiko zadevnega obdobja in utemelji izbor tistih dram, ki kažejo nedvomne ekspresionistične značilnosti. Ta izbor je smiseln zato, ker je temeljni substrat tega obdobja pogosto še zmeraj zavezan simbolistični poetiki, čeprav upadajoči in zamirajoči
