Multi-walled Carbon Nanotubes, NM-400, NM-401, NM-402, NM-403: Characterisation and Physico-Chemical Properties

In 2011 the JRC launched a Repository for Representative Test Materials that supports both EU and international research projects, and especially the OECD Working Party on Manufactured Nanomaterials' (WPMN) exploratory testing programme "Testing a Representative set of Manufactured Nanomaterials" for the development and collection of data on characterisation, toxicological and ecotoxicological properties, as well as risk assessment and safety evaluation of nanomaterials. The JRC Repository responds to a need for availability of nanomaterial from a single production batch to enhance the comparability of results between different research laboratories and projects. The present report presents the physico-chemical characterisation of the multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNT) from the JRC Repository: NM-400, NM-401, NM-402 and NM-403. NM-400 was selected as principal material for the OECD WPMN testing programme. They are produced by catalytic chemical vapour deposition. Each of these NMs originates from one respective batch of commercially manufactured MWCNT. They are nanostructured, i.e. they consist of more than one graphene layer stacked on each other and rolled together as concentric tubes. The MWCNT NMs may be used as a representative material in the measurement and testing with regard to hazard identification, risk and exposure assessment studies. Évaluer les services rendus par les dépendances vertes des infrastructures linéaires de transport : une démarche exploratoire

Green Spaces along Linear Transport Infrastructures can provide services to the human society. It occurs through ecological processes that are taking place within these spaces. What are these services ? Is it possible and is there an interest in modifying these services ? The article is based on a concrete example. It offers a preliminary assessment of ecological services produced by natural habitats of these Infrastructures Green Spaces. Only regulation types of ecological services are likely to be present along Road and Rail Infrastructures. The article shows that there is a spatial variability of these services within these Green Spaces. It is highly dependent upon the landuse and to a lesser extent upon the surrounding environment. However, the study highlights the need for research to quantify the services produced on a local scale. The article then explores the factors that could modify the production of ecological services. Factors can vary based on management practices and maintenance, but also landscaping. It shows that new skills can be developed for a landscape design of ecosystem services. The anthropocentric approach of ecosystem services also considers that project managers can rely on actions promoting certain services for an eco-design of their infrastructure, better social acceptability and possibly an economic optimization of their project

Évaluer les services rendus par les dépendances vertes des infrastructures linéaires de transport : une démarche exploratoire

Les dépendances vertes des infrastructures linéaires de transport, par les processus écologiques qui s’y exercent, peuvent rendre des services à la société humaine. Quels sont-ils ? Peut-on, et y a-t-il un intérêt à faire varier, en nombre et/ou en quantité, ces services ? L’article, sur la base d’un cas concret, propose une évaluation préliminaire des services produits par les habitats naturels des dépendances de l’infrastructure. Pour une infrastructure de transport routier et ferroviaire, seuls les services dits de régulation sont susceptibles d’être présents. L’étude montre qu’il existe bien une variabilité spatiale de ces services au sein des dépendances vertes. Celle-ci est fortement dépendante de l’occupation du sol et dans une moindre mesure, de l’environnement adjacent. L’article met cependant en exergue le besoin de recherche pour évaluer quantitativement les services produits à une échelle locale. L’article explore ensuite les facteurs qui pourraient faire varier la production des services. Ils peuvent être de l’ordre des pratiques de gestion et d’entretien, mais aussi de l’aménagement paysager. Il en ressort que de nouvelles compétences pourraient être développées pour une conception paysagère des services écosystémiques. L’approche anthropocentrique des services écosystémiques permet également d’envisager que les maîtres d’ouvrage puissent s’appuyer sur des actions favorisant certains services pour une écoconception de leur infrastructure, une meilleure acceptabilité du projet voire une optimisation économique de leur aménagement.Green Spaces along Linear Transport Infrastructures can provide services to the human society. Ergonomie et catéchèse en « jeux »

A la suite d’une expérience d’analyse de l’activité de praticiens catéchètes avec les outils de l’ergonomie, nous nous sommes posé la question des rapports entre la catéchèse et de l’autre l’ergonomie justement. Implication de l’homme, mise en route de situations de changement, dispositif reposant sur le respect de l’autre… Autant d’éléments qui très souvent nous invitaient à approfondir le lien entre ces deux disciplines. La première partie de ce document essaye de décrire un processus catéchétique décrit au moyen de quelques outils généraux pour la catéchèse afin de voir les questions qu’une catéchèse décrite avec ces outils là, posent à l’Institution. Une seconde partie essaye de montrer que quelques point de l’ergonomie ont une résonance importante en théologie. L'infraclusion des molaires temporaires

L'infraclusion des molaires temporaires est un phénomène fréquent chez l'enfant, affectant une ou plusieurs molaires et dont l'apparition est plus ou moins précoce. Une ankylose partielle peut être histologiquement démontrée. Elle est à l'origine du défaut de croissance en hauteur des procès alvéolaires de la dent affectée. L'atypie de position ou l'agénésie du germe constituent des facteurs favorisants, mais non déterminants. Cette ankylose est réversible quand elle n'est pas trop sévère. Les choix thérapeutiques comporteront une simple surveillance ou la reconstitution de la hauteur coronaire par un composite, la correction de la mésioversion molaire ou l'extraction de la dent ankylosée suivie par la pose d'un mainteneur d'espace. Ce processus d'infraclusion avec ankylose des molaires temporaires pourrait être rapproché des inclusions avec ankylose des molaires permanentes

Exploring direct and indirect regulation ecosystem services loss caused by linear infrastructure construction

The loss of Ecosystem Services (ES) associated with the direct and indirect impacts of infrastructure construction are poorly integrated into Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) studies. In this paper, we attempt to broaden the scope of infrastructure project evaluation by incorporating ES loss as a new criterion for decision-making. This allows a systematic consideration and thus a more efficient control of natural capital loss. We distinguish between two types of ES loss: direct ES loss induced by the ecosystem conversion and indirect ES loss associated with impacts that go beyond the width of the infrastructure because of a more widespread effect on ecological functions. To illustrate the use of this additional criterion we apply our framework in two areas of interest in a high-speed rail project in France. We focus on the provision of six regulation ES: local climate regulation, global climate regulation, air quality regulation, flood protection, water flow regulation, and biological control. We study the different proposed route options to provide an example of how choices can be improved by a spatial assessment of ES loss in terms of economic loss. We show that the ES assessment may provide a stronger argument to support environmental impact assessment studies
