Spin 1 fields in Riemann-Cartan space-times "via" Duffin-Kemmer-Petiau theory
We consider massive spin 1 fields, in Riemann-Cartan space-times, described
by Duffin-Kemmer-Petiau theory. We show that this approach induces a coupling
between the spin 1 field and the space-time torsion which breaks the usual
equivalence with the Proca theory, but that such equivalence is preserved in
the context of the Teleparallel Equivalent of General Relativity.Comment: 8 pages, no figures, revtex. Dedicated to Professor Gerhard Wilhelm

Exact Solution of Photon Equation in Stationary G\"{o}del-type and G\"{o}del Space-Times
In this work the photon equation (massless Duffin-Kemmer-Petiau equation) is
written expilicitly for general type of stationary G\"{o}del space-times and is
solved exactly for G\"{o}del-type and G\"{o}del space-times. Harmonic
oscillator behaviour of the solutions is discussed and energy spectrum of
photon is obtained.Comment: 9 pages,RevTeX, no figure, revised for publicatio
Five types of blow-up in a semilinear fourth-order reaction-diffusion equation: an analytic-numerical approach
Five types of blow-up patterns that can occur for the 4th-order semilinear
parabolic equation of reaction-diffusion type
u_t= -\Delta^2 u + |u|^{p-1} u \quad {in} \quad \ren \times (0,T), p>1,
\quad \lim_{t \to T^-}\sup_{x \in \ren} |u(x,t)|= +\iy, are discussed. For
the semilinear heat equation , various blow-up patterns
were under scrutiny since 1980s, while the case of higher-order diffusion was
studied much less, regardless a wide range of its application.Comment: 41 pages, 27 figure
Isolation and phenotyping of potential stem cells from the umbilical cord of the bottlenose dolphin(Tursiops truncatus)
We have successfully isolated cells with stem-like properties from bottlenose dolphin (Tursiops truncatus) umbilical cord. Our results show that this cetacean species has embryonic fetal and adult stem cells as do humans and other studied mammals. This accomplishment allows to eventually investigate whether dolphins, due to their unique adaptations to aquatic environments, have special stem cell lineages or distinctive mechanisms of cell programming. Further characterization of their potency to differentiate into multiple cell lineages would fulfill numerous applicative purposes. We characterized, developed and refined a new protocol for obtaining potential stem cells from umbilical cord tissues of the bottlenose dolphin. Tissue samples were taken from umbilical cords of successful deliveries immediately after placenta ejection and collection from the water. Umbilical cord samples (2-3 cm3) were excised and subjected to enzymatic digestion and mechanical dissociation. Viable cells from specimens resident in the Oceanografic Valencia were cultured and subsequently isolated and tested for pluripotent characteristics (cell morphology, phenotype and expression of surface markers). Cell viability was confirmed also after freezing/thawing. The established protocol is suitable for collection/isolation/culture of dolphin potential mesenchymal stem cells from dolphin umbilical cord, which can be deposited in cell banks for future research needs
Hamilton Operator and the Semiclassical Limit for Scalar Particles in an Electromagnetic Field
We successively apply the generalized Case-Foldy-Feshbach-Villars (CFFV) and
the Foldy-Wouthuysen (FW) transformation to derive the Hamiltonian for
relativistic scalar particles in an electromagnetic field. In contrast to the
original transformation, the generalized CFFV transformation contains an
arbitrary parameter and can be performed for massless particles, which allows
solving the problem of massless particles in an electromagnetic field. We show
that the form of the Hamiltonian in the FW representation is independent of the
arbitrarily chosen parameter. Compared with the classical Hamiltonian for point
particles, this Hamiltonian contains quantum terms characterizing the
quadrupole coupling of moving particles to the electric field and the electric
and mixed polarizabilities. We obtain the quantum mechanical and semiclassical
equations of motion of massive and massless particles in an electromagnetic
field.Comment: 17 page

On the Salecker-Wigner-Peres clock and double barrier tunneling
In this work we revisit the Salecker-Wigner-Peres clock formalism and show
that it can be directly applied to the phenomenon of tunneling. Then we apply
this formalism to the determination of the tunneling time of a non relativistic
wavepacket, sharply concentrated around a tunneling energy, incident on a
symmetric double barrier potential. In order to deepen the discussion about the
generalized Hartmann effect, we consider the case in which the clock runs only
when the particle can be found inside the region \emph{between} the barriers
and show that, whenever the probability to find the particle in this region is
non negligible, the corresponding time (which in this case turns out to be a
dwell time) increases with the barrier spacing.Comment: To appear in Phys. Rev.
Quantitative imaging by pixel-based contrast-enhanced ultrasound reveals a linear relationship between synovial vascular perfusion and the recruitment of pathogenic IL-17A-F+IL-23+ CD161+ CD4+ T helper cells in psoriatic arthritis joints
To develop quantitative imaging biomarkers of synovial tissue perfusion by pixel-based contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS), we studied the relationship between CEUS synovial vascular perfusion and the frequencies of pathogenic T helper (Th)-17 cells in psoriatic arthritis (PsA) joints. Eight consecutive patients with PsA were enrolled in this study. Gray scale CEUS evaluation was performed on the same joint immediately after joint aspiration, by automatic assessment perfusion data, using a new quantification approach of pixel-based analysis and the gamma-variate model. The set of perfusional parameters considered by the time intensity curve includes the maximum value (peak) of the signal intensity curve, the blood volume index or area under the curve, (BVI, AUC) and the contrast mean transit time (MTT). The direct ex vivo analysis of the frequencies of SF IL17A-F+CD161+IL23+ CD4+ T cells subsets were quantified by fluorescence-activated cell sorter (FACS). In cross-sectional analyses, when tested for multiple comparison setting, a false discovery rate at 10%, a common pattern of correlations between CEUS Peak, AUC (BVI) and MTT parameters with the IL17A-F+IL23+ - IL17A-F+CD161+ - and IL17A-F+CD161+IL23+ CD4+ T cells subsets, as well as lack of correlation between both peak and AUC values and both CD4+T and CD4+IL23+ T cells, was observed. The pixel-based CEUS assessment is a truly measure synovial inflammation, as a useful tool to develop quantitative imaging biomarker for monitoring target therapeutics in PsA. © 2016, International League of Associations for Rheumatology (ILAR)
