Definition of Tire Properties Required for Landing System Analysis

    Get PDF
The data bank constructed provided two basic advantages for the user of aircraft tire information. First, computerization of the data bank allowed mechanical property data to be stored, corrected, updated, and revised quickly and easily as more reliable tests and measurements were carried out. Secondly, the format of the book which can be printed from the computerized data bank can be easily adjusted to suit the needs of the users without the great expense normally associated with reprinting and editing books set by ordinary typography

The Influence of Overloads on the Fatigue Life of Nylon Tire Cord

Laboratory studies were carried out to investigate the effect of single overloads on subsequent fatigue life of typical nylon tire cord. A simplified method was developed for fabricating end grips for tensile load ing of tire cords. Test results showed little influence of significantly large overloads on the subsequent fatigue life of nylon tire cord.Peer Reviewedhttp://deepblue.lib.umich.edu/bitstream/2027.42/68873/2/10.1177_152808377500400303.pd

The shear-driven Rayleigh problem for generalised Newtonian fluids

    Get PDF
We consider a variant of the classical ‘Rayleigh problem’ (‘Stokes’s first problem’) in which a semi-infinite region of initially quiescent fluid is mobilised by a shear stress applied suddenly to its boundary. We show that self-similar solutions for the fluid velocity are available for any generalised Newtonian fluid, regardless of its constitutive law. We demonstrate how these solutions may be used to provide insight into some generic questions about the behaviour of unsteady, non-Newtonian boundary layers, and in particular the effect of shear thinning or thickening on the thickness of a boundary layer

Vibrational properties of phonons in random binary alloys: An augmented space recursive technique in the k-representation

We present here an augmented space recursive technique in the k-representation which include diagonal, off-diagonal and the environmental disorder explicitly : an analytic, translationally invariant, multiple scattering theory for phonons in random binary alloys. We propose the augmented space recursion (ASR) as a computationally fast and accurate technique which will incorporate configuration fluctuations over a large local environment. We apply the formalism to Ni55Pd45Ni_{55}Pd_{45}, Ni_{88}Cr_12} and Ni50Pt50Ni_{50}Pt_{50} alloys which is not a random choice. Numerical results on spectral functions, coherent structure factors, dispersion curves and disordered induced FWHM's are presented. Finally the results are compared with the recent itinerant coherent potential approximation (ICPA) and also with experiments.Comment: 20 pages, LaTeX, 23 figure

Violation of Luttinger's Theorem in the Two-Dimensional t-J Model

We have calculated the high temperature series for the momentum distribution function n_k of the 2D t-J model to 12th order in inverse temperature. By extrapolating the series to T=0.2J we searched for a Fermi surface of the 2D t-J model. We find that three criteria used for estimating the location of a Fermi surface violate Luttinger's Theorem, implying the 2D t-J model does not have an adiabatic connection to a non-interacting model.Comment: 4 pages, 5 figures. Smartamine M Supplementation Reduces Inflammation but Does Not Affect Performance in Receiving Beef Heifers

    Get PDF
Objective: This study was conducted to evaluate the ability of supplemental methionine to improve health, inflammation status, and performance of receiving cattle. Study Description: A group of 384 crossbred heifers (initial weight 489 lb) of Tennessee origin were used in a 45-day receiving trial with limit-feeding to evaluate the effects of supplemental methionine (Smartamine M; Adisseo, Alpharetta, GA) on health, inflammation, and performance. Cattle received either 0 (control) or 10 grams/day Smartamine M, a ruminally protected methionine product. Plasma haptoglobin levels measured on days 0, 14, and 45 were used as a biomarker of inflammation. The Bottom Line: Supplemental methionine supplied by Smartamine M does not improve performance but reduces inflammation and possibly improves immune function in receiving heifers

The Hilbert space of Chern-Simons theory on the cylinder. A Loop Quantum Gravity approach

As a laboratory for loop quantum gravity, we consider the canonical quantization of the three-dimensional Chern-Simons theory on a noncompact space with the topology of a cylinder. Working within the loop quantization formalism, we define at the quantum level the constraints appearing in the canonical approach and completely solve them, thus constructing a gauge and diffeomorphism invariant physical Hilbert space for the theory. This space turns out to be infinite dimensional, but separable.Comment: Minor changes and some references added. Latex, 16 pages, 1 figur
