    Perturbing Topological Field Theories

The abelian Chern-Simons theory is perturbed by introducing local gauge-invariant interaction terms depending on the curvature. The computation of the correlation function of two Wilson lines for two smooth closed nonintersecting curves is reported up to four loops and is shown to be unaffected by radiative corrections. This result ensures the stability of the linking number of the two curves with respect to the local perturbations which may be added to the Chern-Simons action.Comment: 13 pages, 5 figures, corrected some typo

Morphometrics measures of carcass of lambs finished under two systems of production. Abstract: Used 39 lambs, being 13 lambs of each genotype, blood way Dorper, Santa Inês and Somalis, all entire males. With two systems termination in native and cultivated pasture, they had been directed it abates with minimum weight of 25kg and props up corporal equal or bigger that three. The alive weight (PV) exerts inference on the weight of hot carcass (PCQ) (r = 0,96), length of corporal one (CC) (r = 0,75), thoracic perimeter (PT) (r = 0.91) and the internal length of the carcass (CIC) (r = 0.71), indicating raised correlation between these indices. It props up corporal (ECC) weakly is correlated with weight of hot carcass (PCQ) (r = 0,47) and cold (PCF) (r = 0,48), thoracic perimeter (PT) (r = 0,47) and area of eye of loin (AOL) (r = 0.41), indicating possibility use this parameter to choose moment to direct the animals for it abates. The area of eye of loin positively correlates with all the analyzed variable, predicting a carcass with quality abates for it. All other variable are correlated, being important in choice of moment abate

Educa-tional Technologies for Child Health Promotion: An Integrative Literature Review

    Get PDF
Abstract The use of educational technology focused on child health promotion requires theoretical-methodological foundations to support aspects related to the growth and psychomotor development stage, articulating knowledge and healthy habits as early as possible. This article is an integrative review to investigate the educational technologies used in health education actions to promote child health. The databases LILACS, MEDLINE, BDENF, PUBMED, CINAHL, and in the Virtual library Cochrane Library and SciELO were consulted. Thirteen articles were analyzed. The educational technologies have been employed to promote child health promotion actions and have contributed to the achievement of long-lasting results. The actions happen predominantly in the school context and light, light-hard and hard technologies are used. The association between light and hard technology obtained better results

Laminin database: a tool to retrieve high-throughput and curated data for studies on laminins

    Get PDF
The Laminin(LM)-database, hosted at http://www.lm.lncc.br, is the first database focusing a non-collagenous extracellular matrix protein family, the LMs. Part of the knowledge available in this website is automatically retrieved, whereas a significant amount of information is curated and annotated, thus placing LM-database beyond a simple repository of data. In its home page, an overview of the rationale for the database is seen and readers can access a tutorial to facilitate navigation in the website, which in turn is presented with tabs subdivided into LMs, receptors, extracellular binding and other related proteins. Each tab opens into a given LM or LM-related molecule, where the reader finds a series of further tabs for ‘protein’, ‘gene structure’, ‘gene expression’ and ‘tissue distribution’ and ‘therapy’. Data are separated as a function of species, comprising Homo sapiens, Mus musculus and Rattus novergicus. Furthermore, there is specific tab displaying the LM nomenclatures. In another tab, a direct link to PubMed, which can be then consulted in a specific way, in terms of the biological functions of each molecule, knockout animals and genetic diseases, immune response and lymphomas/leukemias. LM-database will hopefully be a relevant tool for retrieving information concerning LMs in health and disease, particularly regarding the hemopoietic system

Primary and booster vaccination in Latin American children with a DTPw-HBV/Hib combination: a randomized controlled trial

<p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Diphtheria-tetanus-whole-cell pertussis (DTPw)-based combination vaccines are an attractive option to rapidly achieve high coverage and protection against other important pathogens, such as hepatitis B virus (HBV) and <it>Haemophilus influenzae </it>type B (Hib). To ensure adequate antigen supply, GlaxoSmithKline Biologicals has introduced a new DTPw antigen source and developed a new DTPw-HBV/Hib combination vaccine containing a reduced amount of Hib polyribosylribitol phosphate (PRP). This study was undertaken to compare the immunogenicity and reactogenicity of this new DTPw-HBV/Hib vaccine with a licensed DTPw-HBV/Hib vaccine (<it>Tritanrix</it>™-HBV/Hib).</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>This was a randomized, partially-blind, multicenter study in three countries in Latin America (Argentina, Chile and Nicaragua). Healthy children received either the new DTPw-HBV/Hib vaccine (1 of 3 lots; n = 439; double-blind) or Tritanrix™-HBV/Hib (n = 146; single-blind) co-administered with oral poliovirus vaccine (OPV) at 2, 4 and 6 months, with a booster dose at 18-24 months.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>One month after the end of the 3-dose primary vaccination course, the new DTPw-HBV/Hib vaccine was non-inferior to Tritanrix™-HBV/Hib in terms of seroprotection/vaccine response rates for all component antigens; ≥97.3% and ≥93.9% of subjects in the two groups, respectively, had seroprotective levels of antibodies against diphtheria, tetanus, hepatitis B and Hib and a vaccine response to the pertussis component. Persistence of antibodies against all vaccine antigens was comparable between groups, with marked increases in all antibody concentrations after booster administration in both groups. Both vaccines were generally well-tolerated as primary and booster doses.</p> <p>Conclusions</p> <p>Results confirm the suitability of this new DTPw-HBV/Hib vaccine comprising antigens from a new source and a reduced PRP content for inclusion into routine childhood vaccination programs.</p> <p>Trial registration</p> <p><url>http://www.clinicaltrials.gov</url> NCT00332566</p
