On the algebraic Bethe ansatz: Periodic boundary conditions
In this paper, the algebraic Bethe ansatz with periodic boundary conditions
is used to investigate trigonometric vertex models associated with the
fundamental representations of the non-exceptional Lie algebras. This
formulation allow us to present explicit expressions for the eigenvectors and
eigenvalues of the respective transfer matrices.Comment: 36 pages, LaTex, Minor Revisio

Gaudin model and its associated Knizhnik-Zamolodchikov equation
The semiclassical limit of the algebraic Bethe Ansatz for the Izergin-Korepin
19-vertex model is used to solve the theory of Gaudin models associated with
the twisted R-matrix. We find the spectra and eigenvectors of the
independents Gaudin Hamiltonians. We also use the off-shell Bethe Ansatz
method to show how the off-shell Gaudin equation solves the associated
trigonometric system of Knizhnik-Zamolodchikov equations.Comment: 20 pages,no figure, typos corrected, LaTe
Higher order effects in the and transfer reactions
Full Coupled Channels Calculations were performed for the
and transfer reactions at several deuteron incident
energies from MeV up to 3.27 MeV. A strong polarization effect
between the entrance channel and the transfer channels
and was
observed. This polarization effect had to be taken into account in order to
obtain realistic spectroscopic factors from these reactions.Comment: 15 papes, 13 figures, accepted for publication in Phys. Rev.
Brane World Dynamics and Adiabatic Matter creation
We have treated the adiabatic matter creation process in various three-brane
models by applying thermodynamics of open systems. The matter creation rate is
found to affect the evolution of scale factor and energy density of the
universe. We find modification at early stages of cosmic dynamics. In GB and RS
brane worlds, by chosing appropriate parameters we obtain standard scenario,
while the warped DGP model has different Friedmann equations. During later
stages, since the matter creation is negligible the evolution reduces to FRW
expansion, in RS and GB models.Comment: Replaced with TEX file,No figures, Corrected References and typos.

The fate of plastic litter within estuarine compartments: an overview of current knowledge for the transboundary issue to guide future assessments
Plastics can enter biogeochemical cycles and thus be found in most ecosystems. Most studies emphasize plastic pollution in oceanic ecosystems even though rivers and estuaries are acknowledged as the main sources of plastics to the oceans. This review detected few studies approaching the transboundary issue, as well as patterns of estuarine gradients in predicting plastic distribution and accumulation in water, sediments, and organisms. Quantities of plastics in estuaries reach up to 45,500 items m-3 in water, 567,000 items m-3 in sediment, and 131 items per individual in the biota. The role of rivers and estuaries in the transport of plastics to the ocean is far from fully understood due to small sample sizes, short-term approaches, sampling techniques that underestimate small plastics, and the use of site-specific sampling rather than covering environmental gradients. Microfibres are the most commonly found plastic type in all environmental matrices but efforts to re-calculate pathways using novel sampling techniques and estimates are incipient. Microplastic availability to estuarine organisms and rising/sinking is determined by polymer characteristics and spatio-temporal fluctuations in physicochemical, biological, and mineralogical factors. Key processes governing plastic contamination along estuarine trophic webs remain unclear, as most studies used "species" as an ecological unit rather than trophic/functional guilds and ontogenetic shifts in feeding behaviour to understand communities and intraspecific relationships, respectively. Efforts to understand contamination at the tissue level and the contribution of biofouling organisms as vectors of contaminants onto plastic surfaces are increasing. In conclusion, rivers and estuaries still require attention with regards to accurate sampling and conclusions. Multivariate analysis and robust models are necessary to predict the fate of micro- and macroplastics in estuarine environments; and the inclusion of the socio-economic aspects in modelling techniques seems to be relevant regarding management approaches.FEDER; Fundação para a CiĂȘncia e Tecnologia - FCTinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Scaling laws for the largest Lyapunov exponent in long-range systems: A random matrix approach
We investigate the laws that rule the behavior of the largest Lyapunov
exponent (LLE) in many particle systems with long range interactions. We
consider as a representative system the so-called Hamiltonian alpha-XY model
where the adjustable parameter alpha controls the range of the interactions of
N ferromagnetic spins in a lattice of dimension d. In previous work the
dependence of the LLE with the system size N, for sufficiently high energies,
was established through numerical simulations. In the thermodynamic limit, the
LLE becomes constant for alpha greater than d whereas it decays as an inverse
power law of N for alpha smaller than d. A recent theoretical calculation based
on Pettini's geometrization of the dynamics is consistent with these numerical
results (M.-C. Firpo and S. Ruffo, cond-mat/0108158). Here we show that the
scaling behavior can also be explained by a random matrix approach, in which
the tangent mappings that define the Lyapunov exponents are modeled by random
simplectic matrices drawn from a suitable ensemble.Comment: 5 pages, no figure
Accelerating Cold Dark Matter Cosmology ()
A new kind of accelerating flat model with no dark energy that is fully
dominated by cold dark matter (CDM) is investigated. The number of CDM
particles is not conserved and the present accelerating stage is a consequence
of the negative pressure describing the irreversible process of gravitational
particle creation. A related work involving accelerating CDM cosmology has been
discussed before the SNe observations [Lima, Abramo & Germano, Phys. Rev. D53,
4287 (1996)]. However, in order to have a transition from a decelerating to an
accelerating regime at low redshifts, the matter creation rate proposed here
includes a constant term of the order of the Hubble parameter. In this case,
does not need to be small in order to solve the age problem and the
transition happens even if the matter creation is negligible during the
radiation and part of the matter dominated phase. Therefore, instead of the
vacuum dominance at redshifts of the order of a few, the present accelerating
stage in this sort of Einstein-de Sitter CDM cosmology is a consequence of the
gravitational particle creation process. As an extra bonus, in the present
scenario does not exist the coincidence problem that plagues models with
dominance of dark energy. The model is able to harmonize a CDM picture with the
present age of the universe, the latest measurements of the Hubble parameter
and the Supernovae observations.Comment: 9 pages, 6 figures, typos corrected, references added, discussion in

Thermodynamics of Decaying Vacuum Cosmologies
The thermodynamic behavior of vacuum decaying cosmologies is investigated
within a manifestly covariant formulation. Such a process corresponds to a
continuous irreversible energy flow from the vacuum component to the created
matter constituents. It is shown that if the specific entropy per particle
remains constant during the process, the equilibrium relations are preserved.
In particular, if the vacuum decays into photons, the energy density and
average number density of photons scale with the temperature as and . The temperature law is determined and a generalized
Planckian type form of the spectrum, which is preserved in the course of the
evolution, is also proposed. Some consequences of these results for decaying
vacuum FRW type cosmologies as well as for models with ``adiabatic'' photon
creation are discussed.Comment: 21 pages, uses LATE
