Observability and Synchronization of Neuron Models
Observability is the property that enables to distinguish two different
locations in -dimensional state space from a reduced number of measured
variables, usually just one. In high-dimensional systems it is therefore
important to make sure that the variable recorded to perform the analysis
conveys good observability of the system dynamics. In the case of networks
composed of neuron models, the observability of the network depends
nontrivially on the observability of the node dynamics and on the topology of
the network. The aim of this paper is twofold. First, a study of observability
is conducted using four well-known neuron models by computing three different
observability coefficients. This not only clarifies observability properties of
the models but also shows the limitations of applicability of each type of
coefficients in the context of such models. Second, a multivariate singular
spectrum analysis (M-SSA) is performed to detect phase synchronization in
networks composed by neuron models. This tool, to the best of the authors'
knowledge has not been used in the context of networks of neuron models. It is
shown that it is possible to detect phase synchronization i)~without having to
measure all the state variables, but only one from each node, and ii)~without
having to estimate the phase
Nonlinear Analysis of Irregular Variables
The Fourier spectral techniques that are common in Astronomy for analyzing
periodic or multi-periodic light-curves lose their usefulness when they are
applied to unsteady light-curves. We review some of the novel techniques that
have been developed for analyzing irregular stellar light or radial velocity
variations, and we describe what useful physical and astronomical information
can be gained from their use.Comment: 31 pages, to appear as a chapter in `Nonlinear Stellar Pulsation' in

First report of kobuvirus detection in swine in the Province of Quebec
Kobuviruses, non-enveloped and single-stranded positive RNA viruses, are members of the Picornaviridae family and were previously detected in a variety of animal species including humans. Their prevalence in swine is reported over the world, but their role as a causative agent of diarrhea in animals is still unclear. No data is available regarding the presence of kobuvirus on Quebec farms. The aim of this study was to investigate the presence of kobuvirus in swine farms belonging to a single integration system in Québec

Source-Term and building-Wake Consequence Modeling for the Godiva IV Reactor at Los Alamos National Laboratory
The objectives of this work were to evaluate the consequences of a postulated accident to onsite security personnel stationed near the facility during operations of the Godiva IV critical assembly and to identify controls needed to protect these personnel in case of an extreme criticality excursion equivalent to the design-basis accident (DBA). This paper presents the methodology and results of the source-term calculations, building ventilation rates, air concentrations, and consequence calculations that were performed using a multidisciplinary approach with several phenomenology models. Identification of controls needed to mitigate the consequences to near-field receptors is discussed
Oral colistin sulfate in pigs: pharmacokinetics and effect on fecal Escherichia coli excretion of weaned pigs challenged with Escherichia coli F4 (K88)
Colistin sulfate (CS), a polymyxin antibiotic, is used in Canada for the treatment of post-weaning diarrhea in pigs as an alternative to neomycin. The aim of the present study was to evaluate some pharmcokinetics parameters of CS and its effect on the evolution of the intestinal Escherichia coli population in pigs challenged with enterotoxigenic E. coli (ETEC): F4
