Entre sagrado y profano. El espacio público en Sicilia

El espacio público es la "prueba de fuego" de la comunidad que lo habita y lo vive, y al mismo tiempo actúa como paradigma de estructuración del tejido urbano, contraparte del entorno construido, lugar de celebración por excelencia de las funciones colectivas. Las dominaciones que gobernaron Sicilia han dejado en heredad una gran cantidad de episodios físicos, que inlcuso en el campo de los espacios públicos, son testigos de calidad urbana y social, por su representación, por las soluciones arquitectónicas, por la teatralidad invocada. En el pasado y el presente, el espacio público en Sicilia celebra la ciudad, decretando el éxito y a veces el fracaso. Paesaggio e disegno degli spazi aperti per una cultura della città

Excursus sula didattica del Laboratorio di Architettura del Paesaggio offerto nel Dipartimento di Architettura dell'Università di Palermo. Gli obiettivi dell’insegnamento delle discipline paesaggistiche nell’ambito della carriera formativa degli studenti di Architettura sono certamente molteplici. Alcune scuole di Architettura in Italia hanno inserito nella loro o erta didattica corsi di Laurea in Architettura del Paesaggio, in risposta alla domanda di formazione che proviene dalla riforma delle professioni varata nel 2001. Non è questa la sede per una disamina dell’efficacia della riforma, che peraltro manifesta segni di cedimento, ma è evidente che il bisogno di consapevolezza e cultura paesaggistica che esiste in Italia, non trova ristoro nell’o erta della formazione di pro li specialistici di esperti del paesaggio, la cui preparazione, anzi, risulta essere frazionata tra diverse aree del sapere che fanno capo alle scuole di Architettura, di Ingegneria ambientale, di Agraria, oltre alle competenze ancora più specifiche degli studiosi di Geologia e Botanica che concorrono alla comprensione del paesaggio e delle sue componenti. In Italia oggi l’insegnamento della cultura paesaggistica risulta disorganico e disordinato, presentazione stenta a decollare una categoria di paesaggisti e il settore è invaso da competenze che provengono da altre specializzazioni

THE SIGNS OF WATER

Signs of Water. A hidden waterscape in Palermo is recovered from the oblivion through a process consisting in a territorial analysis, a careful reading of ancient maps and historical archives, a deep design of new landscapes trancing the signs of the passage of water in a land where water has a permanent role along the centuries. A vast agricultural territory covers the Conca d'Oro valley, where lays the city of Palermo: rich in landscape, environmental and archaeological heritage, only some areas were subtracted from the intense construction and speculative activity that characterized the history of the city in the sixties and the seventies of the twentieth century. The main goal of this study is the recovery of the park and the enhancement of all the elements of interest and importance within it, today in a degraded condition. These include not only the historical artifacts but also the vegetation system and the remaining specimens of the nineteenth-century park of the former Orléans estate. The theme of water is the guiding thread of the project: water in its various forms pervades the territory. The water as the origin of the area in which the river Kemonia flowed, and the "water system" of Arabic derivation, with all the elements that compose it, are a design inspiration and the park is endowed with a water museum which tells its history and origin, forming a new attraction in the park but also in the University, in direct contact with it. Inside the park a strong landscape component is certainly the presence of all the artifacts that make the water system for the irrigation of the park of Orléans, all made following the principle of collection and storage of water , coming from the Arabic heritage. For all these characteristic elements, the restoration is planned, in particular of the larger tanks, the gebbie , which are suitable to become points of interest and attraction of the park through their commissioning, making all these places more usable, as some tanks are hidden for the lack of pedestrian connections suitable for their exploitation

The Study of the Scale through Space. Teaching Innovation Experience among Architecture Schools: Malaga, Seville and Palermo

The educational innovation project object of this communication focuses on the scale problems that arise in the projects of territorial planning carried out in architecture schools, but also in the loss of the scale concept related to thought and drawing. The project involved collaboration among the Schools of Architecture of Malaga, Palermo and Seville with the aim of carrying out a practical exercise among the students of two subjects that, working on different scales, addressed similar concepts. In particular, following an PBL methodology based on collaborative projects, the planning of the N-340 road in the city of Nerja (Málaga) was carried out. Firstly, the territorial scale is addressed in the subject of Urbanism IV at the School of Architecture of Malaga, proposing the continuity of its development at the scale of landscape design in another place and with other designers of the course of Landscape Laboratory at the School of Architecture of Palermo. Besides, having verified that the academic results have been -in general terms- more satisfactory, the project has allowed consolidating the academic relationship between the three schools, which has translated into the development of complementary training actions

Progettare un paesaggio low cost

Nelle maggiori città europee e in diversi casi nel resto del mondo la tutela, la valorizzazione e la cura partecipata del verde pubblico sono pratiche ormai consolidate da decenni; esiste da tempo una consapevolezza matura del ruolo determinante che le aree verdi svolgono nell’ambito di uno sviluppo sostenibile della civiltà. Attraverso l’esperienza del recupero per la fruizione immediata di Fondo Uditore a Palermo, oggi si presenta anche per Palermo l’occasione di allinearsi a quella che, più che una tendenza, è una necessità riconosciuta e imprescindibile per garantire una migliore qualità della vita in ambito urbano. Qui, dove la recente storia urbanistica racconta decenni di colpevole negligenza nel dotare la città degli standard minimi di servizi primari e aree verdi, un progetto che porterà all’apertura di un nuovo parco urbano si deve all’azione di un gruppo di studiosi e cittadini, attivatosi attraverso i media e i social forum più noti del web. Il recupero di un fondo agricolo abbandonato da quasi vent’anni, privatizzato per i precedenti trenta, e la sua rifunzionalizzazione come parco urbano sono il risultato di una collaborazione sinergica tra cittadinanza attiva e l’amministrazione regionale. Emerge l’occasione per una rifl essione sulle funzioni che la città contemporanea a da al proprio patrimonio verde e sulle potenzialità delle aree agricole residuali nel miglioramento della qualità ambientale

SMALL LAKES AND RESERVOIRS IN THE HILLS OF SICILY. MAINTAIN, SAVE AND RECOVER RURAL LANDSCAPE

In the transition from nomadic to sedentary, people have tried - for their settlements - the most plenty of water, and the first cities were founded, in fact, along Tigris and Euphrates rivers, extraordinary water resources in a particular dry climate.In the most interior of Sicily, which has always been characterized by low rainfall, the farmers - over time - have tried various expedients for the preservation of rain water in order to allow its survival and crop.The use of new technologies and materials has resulted in recently hard impacts for landscape, while construction of small dams filled with earth, using natural soil impluviums and the nature of the land, made it possible to irrigate thousands of hectares of agricultural land otherwise ready for drought. A “sustainable” technique, which resulted in the last sixty years, a significant change in the rural landscape of Sicily. In a time when the whole country seems to be threatened - to build indiscriminately - by excessive consumption of soil, which will inevitably and irreversibly alter the environmental balance, the rediscovery of the landscape value of crops that characterize - today - the sicilian countryside and techniques of sustainable conservation of rainwater, it seems of great relevance for the study and protection of soil and for the recovery of the identity of this territory.This abstract introduce to a multidisciplinary investigation yet started, which will aim to assess both technical and landscaping aspects, both economic and agronomic, and also ecological profiles of this technique to protect the biodiversity in these specialized fields. The investigation will aim also to give an historical perspective and an ex-post evaluation of interventions in order to lead to urban planning, landscape and spatial awareness. A further aim is the design of a network system which has impacts on the quality of rural tourism, which emphasizes, as an example, the interaction with the system of bicycle routes and footpaths, greenways, that is being developed in Sicily

La riqualificazione delle aree verdi come elemento strategico dello sviluppo urbano sostenibile

Questo volume affronta il tema del rapporto tra aree verdi e sviluppo urbano sostenibile,studio svolto nell’ambito di una più ampia ricerca sulla sostenibilità. Il volume è articolato in tre parti: il primo capitolo affronta temi di natura generale sui concetti e le interpretazioni della “ sostenibilità” ,in particolare con riferimento al ruolo dei parchi nel processo dello sviluppo urbano sostenibile. Il secondo capitolo si occupa del ruolo delle aree verdi in diversi contesti urbani,attraverso alcune esperienze italiane e straniere. Il terzo capitolo descrive il caso di studio affrontato nella ricerca: Palermo e il Real Parco della Favorita; introduce questa terza parte una carrellata sul sistema del verde a Palermo,affrontando il problema a partire dall’attuazione delle previsioni contenute negli strumenti urbanistici del dopoguerra. Nei paragrafi successivi si affronta lo studio del parco,partendo dalle vicende storiche,attraverso i duecento anni di vita fino ai giorni nostri. Conclude questo capitolo una i potesi di assetto che coinvolge in un sistema unitario il parco e le ville storiche che ancora punteggiano la Piana dei Colli (con relativi giardini e pertinenze),il cui disegno naturale produce uno scenario di incomparabile bellezza,esaltato dagli artifici delle “ gemme” superstiti del patrimonio storico monumentale della Piana dei Colli e del parco. Corredano il volume nove tavole di analisi e di progetto relative al parco e al sistema paesaggistico della riserva e della Piana dei Colli

Accessibilità post-pandemia: riflessioni sullo spazio pubblico

The correlation between the psycho-physical well-being of citizens and the provision of green areas has been one of the cornerstones of urban planning since its inception, as its constant commitment to adapt cities and territories to emerging challenges. The spread of SARS-Cov-2 has changed the relationship between citizens and urban space. The public space, has been limited and banned, confining citizens within their private space and the psycho-physical well-being of citizens depended only on the quality of the domestic space.The pandemic represents a moment of reflection and research for the disciplines that deal with the quality of life of citizens. The pandemic crisis may be an opportunity to rethink the role and importance of the provision of public space, in particular urban green areas, their distribution and effective accessibility.
