    Game Action Based Power Management for Multiplayer Online Game

    Current mobile devices embrace a wide range of functionalities including high speed network support, hardware accelerated 3D graphics, and multimedia capabilities. These capabilities have boosted the interest for enabling multiplayer online games (MOG) support on such devices. However, the lack of similar growth in battery technology limits the usability of these devices for MOGs. In this paper, we present energy conservation techniques for highly interactive MOGs. These are games, such as firstperson shooters, where crisp user interaction is paramount to the overall game experience. Hence, conserving energy while preserving crisp user interaction becomes a critical consideration in this domain. We first present three obvious power management approaches and highlight their limitations. We then discuss two applicationassisted approaches for power management that manage to save power while preserving the required user experience. Our results demonstrate that these applicationassisted approaches are very promising

    Actitudes hacia desmovilizados del conflicto armado en Colombia por parte de civiles y militares en uso de buen retiro, residentes en Bogotá

    Resumen:  Objetivo: establecer las actitudes hacia los desmovilizados de la guerrilla por parte de civiles y militares en uso de buen retiro de Bogotá. Método: el estudio tuvo un alcance descriptivo, con un método de comparación de grupos, se seleccionó una muestra de 120 participantes, bajo un procedimiento no probabilístico, con edades entre los 40 a 60 años distribuidos en 60 militares en uso de buen retiro y 60 civiles, residentes en la ciudad de Bogotá, a quienes se les aplicó el cuestionario de Actitudes hacia Desmovilizados de la Guerrilla. Resultados:  se encontró que el 84.1% de los participantes presentan una actitud positiva o neutra, y estadísticos de comparación superiores al 0,05, lo que permite afirmar en discusión que ambos grupos presentan actitud positiva hacia los desmovilizados de la guerrilla, y que no se encuentran diferencias significativas entre civiles y militares en uso de buen retiro, residentes en Bogotá. Conclusión: se afirma que el tener una actitud positiva, neutra o negativa no depende de la diferencia entre ser militar o civil.  Abstract Objective: This study aims to establish civilian and military retired officials’ attitudes towards guerrillas demobilization from Bogotá (Col), for a well retirement. Method: This study scope was descriptive, it was conducted, comparing groups, 120 selected participants, between 40 and 60 years, based on a not probabilistic procedure distributed as follows: 60 military retired officials and 60 civilians residents from Bogotá; a questionnaire related to attitudes toward demobilized population of armed conflict, was used. Results: 84.1 % of participants show a positive or neutral attitude, and statistical comparison higher than 0.05; this result, allows to say that both groups have a positive attitude towards demobilized guerrillas and there are not significant differences between civilian and military retired officials, residents in Bogotá. Conclusion: As a conclusion, a positive, neutral or negative attitude does not depend on the difference between being military retired official or civilian

    A central question in the underdoped cuprates pertains to the nature of the pseudogap ground state. A conventional metallic ground state of the pseudogap region has been argued to host quantum oscillations upon destruction of the superconducting order parameter by modest magnetic fields. Here, we use low applied measurement currents and millikelvin temperatures on ultrapure single crystals of underdoped [Formula: see text] to unearth an unconventional quantum vortex matter ground state characterized by vanishing electrical resistivity, magnetic hysteresis, and nonohmic electrical transport characteristics beyond the highest laboratory-accessible static fields.     Testing the IMEter on rice introns and other aspects of intron-mediated enhancement of gene expression

    In many eukaryotes, spliceosomal introns are able to influence the level and site of gene expression. The mechanism of this Intron Mediated Enhancement (IME) has not yet been elucidated, but regulation of gene expression is likely to occur at several steps during and after transcription. Different introns have different intrinsic enhancing properties, but the determinants of these differences remain unknown. Recently, an algorithm called IMEter, which is able to predict the IME potential of introns without direct testing, has been proposed. A computer program was developed for Arabidopsis thaliana and rice (Oryza sativa L.), but was only tested experimentally in Arabidopsis by measuring the enhancement effect on GUS expression of different introns inserted within otherwise identical plasmids. To test the IMEter potential in rice, a vector bearing the upstream regulatory sequence of a rice β-tubulin gene (OsTub6) fused to the GUS reporter gene was used. The enhancing intron interrupting the OsTub6 5′-UTR was precisely replaced by seven other introns carrying different features. GUS expression level in transiently transformed rice calli does not significantly correlate with the calculated IMEter score. It was also found that enhanced GUS expression was mainly due to a strong increase in the mRNA steady-state level and that mutations at the splice recognition sites almost completely abolished the enhancing effect. Splicing also appeared to be required for IME in Arabidopsis cell cultures, where failure of the OsTub6 5′ region to drive high level gene expression could be rescued by replacing the poorly spliced rice intron with one from Arabidopsis

    Distinct Genetic Lineages of Bactrocera caudata (Insecta: Tephritidae) Revealed by COI and 16S DNA Sequences

    The fruit fly Bactrocera caudata is a pest species of economic importance in Asia. Its larvae feed on the flowers of Cucurbitaceae such as Cucurbita moschata. To-date it is distinguished from related species based on morphological characters. Specimens of B. caudata from Peninsular Malaysia and Indonesia (Bali and Lombok) were analysed using the partial DNA sequences of cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI) and 16S rRNA genes. Both gene sequences revealed that B. caudata from Peninsular Malaysia was distinctly different from B. caudata of Bali and Lombok, without common haplotype between them. Phylogenetic analysis revealed two distinct clades, indicating distinct genetic lineage. The uncorrected ‘p’ distance for COI sequences between B. caudata of Malaysia-Thailand-China and B. caudata of Bali-Lombok was 5.65%, for 16S sequences from 2.76 to 2.99%, and for combined COI and 16S sequences 4.45 to 4.46%. The ‘p’ values are distinctly different from intraspecific ‘p’ distance (0–0.23%). Both the B. caudata lineages are distinctly separated from related species in the subgenus Zeugodacus – B. ascita, B. scutellata, B. ishigakiensis, B. diaphora, B. tau, B. cucurbitae, and B. depressa. Molecular phylogenetic analysis indicates that the B. caudata lineages are closely related to B. ascita sp. B, and form a clade with B. scutellata, B. ishigakiensis, B. diaphora and B. ascita sp. A. This study provides additional baseline for the phylogenetic relationships of Bactrocera fruit flies of the subgenus Zeugodacus. Both the COI and 16S genes could be useful markers for the molecular differentiation and phylogenetic analysis of tephritid fruit flies

    High-performance shape-engineerable thermoelectric painting

    Output power of thermoelectric generators depends on device engineering minimizing heat loss as well as inherent material properties. However, the device engineering has been largely neglected due to the limited flat or angular shape of devices. Considering that the surface of most heat sources where these planar devices are attached is curved, a considerable amount of heat loss is inevitable. To address this issue, here, we present the shape-engineerable thermoelectric painting, geometrically compatible to surfaces of any shape. We prepared Bi2Te3-based inorganic paints using the molecular Sb2Te3 chalcogenidometalate as a sintering aid for thermoelectric particles, with ZT values of 0.67 for n-type and 1.21 for p-type painted materials that compete the bulk values. Devices directly brush-painted onto curved surfaces produced the high output power of 4.0 mW cm(-2). This approach paves the way to designing materials and devices that can be easily transferred to other applications.ope

    Transition practice for primary immunodeficiency diseases in Southeast Asia: a regional survey

    IntroductionWith increased diagnostic capabilities and treatment modalities in the field of primary immunodeficiencies (PID), many pediatric patients survive beyond childhood and experience a change of care to the adult-oriented healthcare system. Unfortunately, the transition pathways for PID are less clearly defined, resulting in deterioration of quality of care in adulthood. Hence, this is the first regional study to address PID clinicians’ opinions on practices and challenges of transition care in 7 Southeast Asia (SEA) countries.MethodsWe adopted a cross-sectional study design through an online survey platform to enquire opinions of transition practices from expert representatives in 7 SEA countries.ResultsRegionally, 3 out 7 countries reported having no practice of transition care. Among cited challenges were reluctant adaptation by patients and caregivers to unfamiliarized adult healthcare systems, inadequate ratio of adult immunologists to patients and lack of facilities for transfer.Discussion and conclusionOur study provides evidence to advocate policy makers on the importance of standardized integration of transition practice towards betterment of transiting PID patients into adulthood
