Josephson Current in S-FIF-S Junctions: Nonmonotonic Dependence on Misorientation Angle
Spectra and spin structures of Andreev interface states in S-FIF-S junctions
are investigated with emphasis on finite transparency and misorientation angle
between in-plane magnetizations of ferromagnetic layers in a three-layer
interface. It is demonstrated that the Josephson current in S-FIF-S quantum
point contacts can exhibit a nonmonotonic dependence on the misorientation
angle. The characteristic behavior takes place, if the pi-state is the
equilibrium state of the junction in the particular case of parallel
magnetizations.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figure
A theory of \pi/2 superconducting Josephson junctions
We consider theoretically a Josephson junction with a superconducting
critical current density which has a random sign along the junction's surface.
We show that the ground state of the junction corresponds to the phase
difference equal to \pi/2. Such a situation can take place in superconductor-
ferromagnet junction
Non-Equilibrium Quasiclassical Theory for Josephson Structures
We present a non-equilibrium quasiclassical formalism suitable for studying
linear response ac properties of Josephson junctions. The non-equilibrium
self-consistency equations are satisfied, to very good accuracy, already in
zeroth iteration. We use the formalism to study ac Josephson effect in a
ballistic superconducting point contact. The real and imaginary parts of the ac
linear conductance are calculated both analytically (at low frequencies) and
numerically (at arbitrary frequency). They show strong temperature, frequency,
and phase dependence. Many anomalous properties appear near phi = pi. We
ascribe them to the presence of zero energy bound states.Comment: 11 pages, 9 figures, Final version to appear in PR
A Two-dimensional Superconductor in a Tilted Magnetic Field - new states with finite Cooper-pair momentum
Varying the angle Theta between applied field and the conducting planes of a
layered superconductor in a small interval close to the plane-parallel field
direction, a large number of superconducting states with unusual properties may
be produced. For these states, the pair breaking effect of the magnetic field
affects both the orbital and the spin degree of freedom. This leads to pair
wave functions with finite momentum, which are labeled by Landau quantum
numbers 0<n<\infty. The stable order parameter structure and magnetic field
distribution for these states is found by minimizing the quasiclassical free
energy near H_{c2} including nonlinear terms. One finds states with coexisting
line-like and point-like order parameter zeros and states with coexisting
vortices and antivortices. The magnetic response may be diamagnetic or
paramagnetic depending on the position within the unit cell. The structure of
the Fulde-Ferrell-Larkin-Ovchinnikov (FFLO) states at Theta=0 is reconsidered.
The transition n->\infty of the paramagnetic vortex states to the FFLO-limit is
analyzed and the physical reason for the occupation of higher Landau levels is
pointed out.Comment: 24 pages, 11 figure
Current noise in long diffusive SNS junctions in the incoherent MAR regime
Spectral density of current fluctuations at zero frequency is calculated for
a long diffusive SNS junction with low-resistive interfaces. At low
temperature, T << Delta, the subgap shot noise approaches linear voltage
dependence, S=(2/ 3R)(eV + 2Delta), which is the sum of the shot noise of the
normal conductor and voltage independent excess noise. This result can also be
interpreted as the 1/3-suppressed Poisson noise for the effective charge q =
e(1+2Delta/eV) transferred by incoherent multiple Andreev reflections (MAR). At
higher temperatures, anomalies of the current noise develop at the gap
subharmonics, eV = 2Delta/n. The crossover to the hot electron regime from the
MAR regime is analyzed in the limit of small applied voltages.Comment: improved version, to be published in Phys. Rev.
Crossover from 2-dimensional to 1-dimensional collective pinning in NbSe3
We have fabricated NbSe structures with widths comparable to the
Fukuyama-Lee-Rice phase-coherence length. For samples already in the
2-dimensional pinning limit, we observe a crossover from 2-dimensional to
1-dimensional collective pinning when the crystal width is less than 1.6
m, corresponding to the phase-coherence length in this direction. Our
results show that surface pinning is negligible in our samples, and provide a
means to probe the dynamics of single domains giving access to a new regime in
charge-density wave physics.Comment: 4 pages, 2 figures, and 1 table. Accepted for publication in Physical

Dynamics of 2D pancake vortices in layered superconductors
The dynamics of 2D pancake vortices in Josephson-coupled
superconducting/normal - metal multilayers is considered within the
time-dependent Ginzburg-Landau theory. For temperatures close to a
viscous drag force acting on a moving 2D vortex is shown to depend strongly on
the conductivity of normal metal layers. For a tilted vortex line consisting of
2D vortices the equation of viscous motion in the presence of a transport
current parallel to the layers is obtained. The specific structure of the
vortex line core leads to a new dynamic behavior and to substantial deviations
from the Bardeen-Stephen theory. The viscosity coefficient is found to depend
essentially on the angle between the magnetic field and the
axis normal to the layers. For field orientations close to the layers
the nonlinear effects in the vortex motion appear even for slowly moving vortex
lines (when the in-plane transport current is much smaller than the
Ginzburg-Landau critical current). In this nonlinear regime the viscosity
coefficient depends logarithmically on the vortex velocity .Comment: 15 pages, revtex, no figure
Shot noise in normal metal-d-wave superconducting junctions
We present theoretical calculations and predictions for the shot noise in
voltage biased junctions of superconductors and normal metal
counter-electrodes. In the clean limit for the d-wave superconductor the shot
noise vanishes at zero voltage because of resonant Andreev reflection by
zero-energy surface bound states. We examine the sensitivity of this resonance
to impurity scattering. We report theoretical results for the magnetic field
dependence of the shot noise, as well the fingerprints of subdominant - and
pairing channels.Comment: 15 pages, 8 figures and 3 tables embedde
Thermodynamic properties of thin films of superfluid 3He-A
The pairing correlations in superfluid He-3 are strongly modified by
quasiparticle scattering off a surface or an interface. We present theoretical
results and predictions for the order parameter, the quasiparticle excitation
spectrum and the free energy for thin films of superfluid He-3. Both specular
and diffuse scattering by a substrate are considered, while the free surface is
assumed to be a perfectly reflecting specular boundary. The results are based
on self-consistent calculations of the order parameter and quasiparticle
excitation spectrum at zero pressure. We obtain new results for the phase
diagram, free energy, entropy and specific heat of thin films of superfluid
He-3.Comment: Replaced with an updated versio
Critical fluctuation conductivity in layered superconductors in strong electric field
The paraconductivity, originating from critical superconducting
order-parameter fluctuations in the vicinity of the critical temperature in a
layered superconductor is calculated in the frame of the self-consistent
Hartree approximation, for an arbitrarily strong electric field and zero
magnetic field. The paraconductivity diverges less steep towards the critical
temperature in the Hartree approximation than in the Gaussian one and it shows
a distinctly enhanced variation with the electric field. Our results indicate
that high electric fields can be effectively used to suppress order-parameter
fluctuations in high-temperature superconductors.Comment: 11 pages, 2 figures, to be published in Phys. Rev.
