Invisible Events with Radiative Photons at LEP
A study of the radiative neutrino counting reaction at LEP1 and LEP2 energies is presented. An approximate expression
for the spectrum of the observed photon is derived within the framework of the
-dependent structure function approach. This is compared with an exact
expression and found in agreement within the foreseen experimental accuracy.
This model describing single-photon radiation can be applied to the more
general case of initial-state single-photon emission accompanying invisible
final-state events. Higher-order QED corrections due to undetected
initial-state radiation are also included. The implementation in a Monte Carlo

Option pricing under stochastic volatility: the exponential Ornstein-Uhlenbeck model
We study the pricing problem for a European call option when the volatility
of the underlying asset is random and follows the exponential
Ornstein-Uhlenbeck model. The random diffusion model proposed is a
two-dimensional market process that takes a log-Brownian motion to describe
price dynamics and an Ornstein-Uhlenbeck subordinated process describing the
randomness of the log-volatility. We derive an approximate option price that is
valid when (i) the fluctuations of the volatility are larger than its normal
level, (ii) the volatility presents a slow driving force toward its normal
level and, finally, (iii) the market price of risk is a linear function of the
log-volatility. We study the resulting European call price and its implied
volatility for a range of parameters consistent with daily Dow Jones Index

Project {\tt SANC} (former {\tt CalcPHEP}): Support of Analytic and Numeric calculations for experiments at Colliders
The project, aimed at the theoretical support of experiments at modern and
future accelerators -- TEVATRON, LHC, electron Linear Colliders (TESLA, NLC,
CLIC) and muon factories, is presented. Within this project a four-level
computer system is being created, which must automatically calculate, at the
one-loop precision level the pseudo- and realistic observables (decay rates and
event distributions) for more and more complicated processes of elementary
particle interaction, using the principle of knowledge storing.
It was already used for a recalculation of the EW radiative corrections for
Atomic Parity Violation [1] and complete one-loop corrections for the process
[2-4]; for the latter an, agreement up to 11 digits with
FeynArts and the other results is found. The version of {\tt SANC} that we
describe here is capable of automatically computing the decay rates and the
distributions for the decays in the one-loop

Epidemiology of intensive care unit-acquired sepsis in Italy: results of the SPIN-UTI network
BACKGROUND:
Sepsis is the major cause of mortality from any infectious disease worldwide. Sepsis may be the result of a healthcare associated infection (HAI): the most frequent adverse events during care delivery especially in Intensive Care Units (ICUs). The main aim of the present study was to describe the epidemiology of ICU-acquired sepsis and related outcomes among patients enrolled in the framework of the Italian Nosocomial Infections Surveillance in ICUs - SPIN-UTI project.
STUDY DESIGN:
Prospective multicenter study.
METHODS:
The SPIN-UTI network adopted the European protocols for patient-based HAI surveillance.
RESULTS:
During the five editions of the SPIN-UTI project, from 2008 to 2017, 47.0% of HAIs has led to sepsis in 832 patients. Overall, 57.0% episodes were classified as sepsis, 20.5% as severe sepsis and 22.5% as septic shock. The most common isolated microorganisms from sepsis episodes were Acinetobacter baumannii, Klebsiella pneumoniae and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The case fatality rate increased with the severity of sepsis and the mean length of ICU-stay was significantly higher in patients with ICU-acquired sepsis than in patients without.
CONCLUSION:
Our study provides evidence that ICU-acquired sepsis occurs frequently in Italian ICU patients and is associated with a high case fatality rate and increased length of stay. However, in order to explain these findings further analyses are needed in this population of ICU patient

Frustration and sound attenuation in structural glasses
Three classes of harmonic disorder systems (Lennard-Jones like glasses,
percolators above threshold, and spring disordered lattices) have been
numerically investigated in order to clarify the effect of different types of
disorder on the mechanism of high frequency sound attenuation. We introduce the
concept of frustration in structural glasses as a measure of the internal
stress, and find a strong correlation between the degree of frustration and the
exponent alpha that characterizes the momentum dependence of the sound
attenuation . In particular, alpha decreases from
about d+1 in low-frustration systems (where d is the spectral dimension), to
about 2 for high frustration systems like the realistic glasses examined.Comment: Revtex, 4 pages including 4 figure
Textile sensors for ECG and respiratory frequency on swimsuits
Swimming constitutes one of the most demanding sports regarding technique. Years of training are necessary to master each one of the four styles. An important improvement and help for trainers would be a swimsuit that could provide information during training. This paper presents the research undertaken to develop textile sensors that will be used in a swimsuit. This paper will address ECG and respiratory frequency sensors and respective signals. The behaviour of the proposed sensors in different conditions (dry and wet environments) will be presented and discussed. The influence of movement on the signal quality and further interpretation, both by the muscular electrical signals as well as by the displacement of the electrodes, will be addressed. Other very important issue in swimming is drag. One approach that can reduce total drag consists in using compression. Evidence For The Production Of Slow Antiprotonic Hydrogen In Vacuum
We present evidence showing how antiprotonic hydrogen, the quasistable
antiproton-proton (pbar-p) bound system, has been synthesized following the
interaction of antiprotons with the hydrogen molecular ion (H2+) in a nested
Penning trap environment. From a careful analysis of the spatial distributions
of antiproton annihilation events, evidence is presented for antiprotonic
hydrogen production with sub-eV kinetic energies in states around n=70, and
with low angular momenta. The slow antiprotonic hydrogen may be studied using
