Electromagnetic wave energy converter
Electromagnetic wave energy is converted into electric power with an array of mutually insulated electromagnetic wave absorber elements each responsive to an electric field component of the wave as it impinges thereon. Each element includes a portion tapered in the direction of wave propagation to provide a relatively wideband response spectrum. Each element includes an output for deriving a voltage replica of the electric field variations intercepted by it. Adjacent elements are positioned relative to each other so that an electric field subsists between adjacent elements in response to the impinging wave. The electric field results in a voltage difference between adjacent elements that is fed to a rectifier to derive dc output power
Privileged Mexican migrants in Europe: Distinctions and cosmopolitanism on social networking sites
This article examines the ways in which classed distinctions are related to the construction of increasingly cosmopolitan identities on Social Networking Sites (SNSs) amongst Mexican migrants from relatively privileged backgrounds living in Europe. It centres on how user demographics shape many of the concerns and outcomes pertaining to the use of SNSs. It considers the implications of the fact that SNSs are predominantly used by a demographic considered as non-marginalized, mobile and as possessing relatively privileged economic, cultural and social backgrounds. It analyses the ways in which online identities are constructed on SNS profiles using multimedia content to represent specific lifestyles and cultural practices that are used to make distinctions amongst participants, and are related to social, cultural and economic capital. A critical analysis is presented as to how users represent cosmopolitan identities online through the display of tastes and lifestyles in SNS content and into how these representations relate to usersâ privileged positions in Mexican society. Bourdieuâs concept of distinction is used to emphasize the utility of considering different forms of capital in analysing the use of SNSs and profile content generated by a specific demographic. This article demonstrates how the analysis of SNS use may contribute towards an understanding of how classed distinctions are made based on this use and of how users negotiate the posting of profile content according to these distinctions and manage (select, edit and share) their representations
What is the impact of health trainer interventions within a mental health setting?
This paper relates to a single case study that was part of a larger project using a tried and tested evaluation methodology to evaluate the role of health trainers (HTs) working with groups who are considered âdifficultâ to engage in health care. In this example, the HTs were based in a mental health centre run by a charity. The service was commissioned by a Primary Care Trust (PCT) located in the North East of England. Data collected between April 2010 and July 2011 included quantitative data from 72 service users from the National Data Collection and Reporting System. Additional quantitative data were obtained from the HTs relating to the usage of group activities and a satisfaction questionnaire completed by service users. Qualitative data included interviews with four key stakeholders, a focus group with service users, case studies and progress reports provided as part of the Centreâs annual reporting requirements for the PCT. Findings reveal that more service users aged 26-44 used the service compared with national figures. Partnership working was essential to embed the initiative into the Centre. HT interventions that were flexible, and gave service users options, encouraged mental health promotion. The success of the intervention depended less on what the HT did and more importantly on how they did it

Associated Production of Charm and a Hard Photon
The two particle inclusive cross section for the reaction is studied in perturbative quantum
chromodynamics at order , for large values of the transverse
momentum of the prompt photon and charm quark. Two different techniques are
used in performing the phase-space integrals; the first is purely analytical,
and the second is a combination of analytic and Monte Carlo integration
methods. The second, more versatile technique facilitates imposition of photon
isolation restrictions and other selections of relevance in experiments.
Differential distributions are provided for various observables, and a
comparison is made with preliminary data from the CDF collaboration.Comment: 6 pages. Latex file plus 4 ps files of figures submitted togther in

Measuring the Lifetime of Trapped Sleptons Using the General Purpose LHC Detectors
In supergravity where the gravitino is the lightest supersymmetric particle
(LSP), the next-to-lightest supersymmetric particle (NLSP) decays to the
gravitino with a naturally long lifetime (10^4 - 10^8). However, cosmological
constraints favour charged sleptons with lifetimes below a year as the natural
NLSP candidate. For this scenario we report a method to accurately determine
the slepton lifetime and SUSY cross-section from observation of the decays of
sleptons trapped in the material comprising the main detector (ATLAS, CMS). A
measurement of the lifetime to 5% is possible after 3 years at nominal
luminosity and running conditions. This method is sensitive to the
cosmologically preferred stau lifetime of ~37 days and does not require the use
of ancillary trapping volumes
The tartan tax versus other revenue-raising options
Much has already been written about the devolved Scottish Parliament's Tartan Tax-varying powers (for example Blow et al. 1996, Darby et al. 2002, Heald and Geaughan 1996 and 1999, Heald et al. 1998, Heald and McLeod 2002, McGregor et al. 1997, Midwinter 2002, Muscatelli 2001, SPICe 2002). Much less has been written about other revenue raising options and it is the contention of this paper that the focus of attention on Tartan Tax-varying powers has been misplaced
