Bound States and Critical Behavior of the Yukawa Potential
We investigate the bound states of the Yukawa potential , using different algorithms: solving the Schr\"odinger
equation numerically and our Monte Carlo Hamiltonian approach. There is a
critical , above which no bound state exists. We study the
relation between and for various angular momentum quantum
number , and find in atomic units, , with , ,

Optical properties of in the normal state
We present the optical reflectance and conductivity spectra for non-oxide
antiperovskite superconductor at different temperatures. The
reflectance drops gradually over a large energy scale up to 33,000 cm,
with the presence of several wiggles. The reflectance has slight temperature
dependence at low frequency but becomes temperature independent at high
frequency. The optical conductivity shows a Drude response at low frequencies
and four broad absorption features in the frequency range from 600 to
33,000 . We illustrate that those features can be well understood from
the intra- and interband transitions between different components of Ni 3d
bands which are hybridized with C 2p bands. There is a good agreement between
our experimental data and the first-principle band structure calculations.Comment: 4 pages, to be published in Phys. Rev.
Interpolation function of the genocchi type polynomials
The main purpose of this paper is to construct not only generating functions
of the new approach Genocchi type numbers and polynomials but also
interpolation function of these numbers and polynomials which are related to a,
b, c arbitrary positive real parameters. We prove multiplication theorem of
these polynomials. Furthermore, we give some identities and applications
associated with these numbers, polynomials and their interpolation functions.Comment: 14 page
Microscopy of glazed layers formed during high temperature sliding wear at 750C
The evolution of microstructures in the glazed layer formed during high temperature sliding wear of Nimonic 80A against Stellite 6 at 750 ◦C using a speed of 0.314ms−1 under a load of 7N has been investigated using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive analysis by X-ray (EDX), X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis, scanning tunnelling microscopy (STM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The results indicate the formation of a wear resistant nano-structured glazed layer. The mechanisms responsible for the formation of the nano-polycrystalline glazed layer are discussed
Tracers of chromospheric structure. I. CaII HK emission distribution of 13000 F, G and K stars in SDSS DR7 spectroscopic sample
We present chromospheric activity index measurements for over
13,000 F, G and K disk stars with high signal-to-noise ratio ( 60) spectra
in the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) Data Release 7 (DR7) spectroscopic
sample. A parameter S is defined as the difference between
and a `zero' emission line fitted by several of the most inactive stars. The
indices of subgiant stars tend to be much lower than dwarfs, which
provide a way to distinguish dwarfs and giants with relatively low resolution
spectra. Cooler stars are generally more active and display a larger scatter
than hotter stars. Stars associated with the thick disk are in general less
active than those of the thin disk. The fraction of K dwarfs that are active
drops with vertical distance from the Galactic plane. Metallicity affects
measurements differently among F, G and K dwarfs in this sample.
Using the open clusters NGC 2420, M67 and NGC6791 as calibrations, ages of most
field stars in this SDSS sample range from 3-8 Gyr.Comment: 9 pages, 11 figures, AJ, 2013, 145, 14
Shock-induced consolidation and spallation of Cu nanopowders
A useful synthesis technique, shock synthesis of bulk nanomaterials from nanopowders, is explored here with molecular dynamics simulations. We choose nanoporous Cu (∼11 nm in grain size and 6% porosity) as a representative system, and perform consolidation and spallation simulations. The spallation simulations characterize the consolidated nanopowders in terms of spall strength and damage mechanisms. The impactor is full density Cu, and the impact velocity (u_i) ranges from 0.2 to 2 km s^(−1). We present detailed analysis of consolidation and spallation processes, including atomic-level structure and wave propagation features. The critical values of u_i are identified for the onset plasticity at the contact points (0.2 km s^(−1)) and complete void collapse (0.5 km s^(−1)). Void collapse involves dislocations, lattice rotation, shearing/friction, heating, and microkinetic energy. Plasticity initiated at the contact points and its propagation play a key role in void collapse at low u_i, while the pronounced, grain-wise deformation may contribute as well at high u_i. The grain structure gives rise to nonplanar shock response at nanometer scales. Bulk nanomaterials from ultrafine nanopowders (∼10 nm) can be synthesized with shock waves. For spallation, grain boundary (GB) or GB triple junction damage prevails, while we also observe intragranular voids as a result of GB plasticity
Climate change effects on wheat yield and water use in oasis cropland
Agriculture of the inland arid region in Xinjiang depends on irrigation, which forms oasis of Northwest China. The production and water use of wheat, a dominant crop there, is significantly affected by undergoing climate variability and change. The objective of this study is to quantify interannual variability of wheat yield and water use from 1955 to 2006. The farming systems model APSIM (Agricultural Production Systems Simulator) was used to evaluate crop yield, evapotranspiration (ET), and water use efficiency of winter and spring wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) in Xinjiang from 1955 to 2006. The APSIM model was first calibrated and validated using 6 years of experimental data. The validated model was then applied to simulated wheat yield and ET using climatic and soil data for present crop cultivar. Simulated wheat yield under full irrigation have no significant decreasing trend from 1955 to 2006. Simulated growth duration of winter wheat was significantly decreased. Simulated ET of winter wheat was significantly correlated with measured pan evaporation. Simulated ET of winter wheat decreased significantly during the 52 years, with a decrease rate of 0.813 mm year-1. Cluster analysis showed that the variations of ET were mainly determined by solar radiation, nothing to do with the changes in temperature. The results identified the change trend of field ET under historical climate change, and determined the main meteorological factors which affect ET in this oasis. These results provide a measure for water demand, crop production and irrigation management under climate change in the oasis
