Nursing satisfaction in caring for elders
Despite the increasing number of Americans who are over 65 years of age, little research exists about the satisfaction of nurses who care for this population. This qualitative descriptive study investigated the factors that influence the satisfaction of such nurses, and yielded five main themes. Registered Nurses (RNs) reported providing high-quality care, developing relationships, and making a difference to be rewarding components of geriatric nursing. The nurses also discussed challenges, which included caring for elders with dementia and being unable to deliver the high-quality care they felt patients deserve. Several of these finding were consistent with existing studies that addressed nurse satisfaction in general. The results of the present study implied that recognizing nurses for their work and providing RNs with training related to caring for older adults may be effective ways to improve satisfaction. Recommendations for further research include conducting similar investigations that are both larger and inclusive of nurses who choose to work exclusively with geriatric patients. Research regarding effective ways to implement dementia-related education programs in the workplace is also suggested
Synchronization in Complex Systems Following the Decision Based Queuing Process: The Rhythmic Applause as a Test Case
Living communities can be considered as complex systems, thus a fertile
ground for studies related to their statistics and dynamics. In this study we
revisit the case of the rhythmic applause by utilizing the model proposed by
V\'azquez et al. [A. V\'azquez et al., Phys. Rev. E 73, 036127 (2006)]
augmented with two contradicted {\it driving forces}, namely: {\it
Individuality} and {\it Companionship}. To that extend, after performing
computer simulations with a large number of oscillators we propose an
explanation on the following open questions (a) why synchronization occurs
suddenly, and b) why synchronization is observed when the clapping period
() is ( is the mean self period
of the spectators) and is lost after a time. Moreover, based on the model, a
weak preferential attachment principle is proposed which can produce complex
networks obeying power law in the distribution of number edges per node with

Willmore Surfaces of Constant Moebius Curvature
We study Willmore surfaces of constant Moebius curvature in . It is
proved that such a surface in must be part of a minimal surface in
or the Clifford torus. Another result in this paper is that an isotropic
surface (hence also Willmore) in of constant could only be part of a
complex curve in or the Veronese 2-sphere in . It is
conjectured that they are the only examples possible. The main ingredients of

Kinetics of catalysis with surface disorder
We study the effects of generalised surface disorder on the monomer-monomer
model of heterogeneous catalysis, where disorder is implemented by allowing
different adsorption rates for each lattice site. By mapping the system in the
reaction-controlled limit onto a kinetic Ising model, we derive the rate
equations for the one and two-spin correlation functions. There is good
agreement between these equations and numerical simulations. We then study the
inclusion of desorption of monomers from the substrate, first by both species
and then by just one, and find exact time-dependent solutions for the one-spin

The multilevel trigger system of the DIRAC experiment
The multilevel trigger system of the DIRAC experiment at CERN is presented.
It includes a fast first level trigger as well as various trigger processors to
select events with a pair of pions having a low relative momentum typical of
the physical process under study. One of these processors employs the drift
chamber data, another one is based on a neural network algorithm and the others
use various hit-map detector correlations. Two versions of the trigger system
used at different stages of the experiment are described. The complete system
reduces the event rate by a factor of 1000, with efficiency 95% of
detecting the events in the relative momentum range of interest.Comment: 21 pages, 11 figure

Diet quality, overweight and daily monetary allowance of Greek adolescents.
Objective: To investigate cross-correlates of pocket-money on diet quality and weight status of Greek adolescents. Methods: A total of 172 adolescents (55.2% boys), aged between 10 and 15 years old were recruited. Body weight and height were measured, body mass index (BMI) was computed. Weight status was assessed according to the International Obesity Task Force criteria and diet quality was evaluated via the Healthy Eating Index (HEI) - 2010. Results: Adolescents were allowed a mean allowance of €4.63 ± 3.66 daily. Among boys participants, BMI correlated with pocket money (r = 0.311, p ≤ 0.002) and normoweight boys received statistically less money than their overweight peers (p ≤ 0.019). In both sexes, normoweight was more prevalent in the lowest monetary quartiles. Pocket money was not associated with HEI. Among boys, moderate HEI was more prevalent in the third quartile of pocket money, significantly higher compared to all others (p ≤ 0.01 for all). For girls, the prevalence of moderate HEI declined by each ascending pocket money quartile (p ≤ 0.05 for all). Conclusion: In our sample, adolescents exhibited high rates of pooled overweight including obesity. The majority of the participants followed a diet of moderate quality. Pocket money was associated with BMI only among boys. As pocket money was not associated with diet quality, it is highly possible that adolescents might choose to spend their money on items other than foods. Our study shows that pocket money should be controlled during adolescence and teenagers should be educated on spending their money on healthier food choices
