N spike D-strings in AdS Space with mixed flux

We use Dirac-Born-Infeld action to study the spinning D-string in AdS3AdS_3 background in the presence of both NS-NS and RR fluxes. We compute the scaling relation between the energy (E) and spin (S) in the `long string limit'. The energy of these spiky string is found to be a function of spin with the leading logarithmic behaviour and the scaling relation appears to be independent of the amount of flux present. We further discuss folded D-string solutions in AdS3AdS_3 background with pure NS-NS and R-R fluxes.Comment: 27 pages, 12 figure

Preferential localization of Bkm (Banded krait minor-satellite) DNA sequences on Y/W chromosomes of higher eukaryotes, which remain highly condensed in somatic cells but undergo extensive decondensation in the germ cells during early stages of development, led to the postulation for the existence of a sex- and tissue-specific Bkm-binding protein (BBP). Accordingly, we purified and characterized a BmBBP expressed predominantly in pupal ovary of the silkworm (Bombyx mori). 2D-PAGE revealed BmBBP as moderately basic (pI 7.8-8, in the range expected for DNA-binding proteins) and Matrix Assisted Laser Desorption/Ionization Time of Flight exhibited a value of 37.5-kDa. BmBBP neither contains nor requires divalent metal ions for its DNA-binding activity, suggesting that it does not belong to the well-studied GATA-family of transcription factors. BmBBP is unusually strong in its DNA-binding characteristics to Bkm (GATA-repeats), which suggests its probable role in bringing about coordinated chromatin conformational changes to activate genes present in associated chromosomal domains. Fluorescence immuno-localization studies employing specific anti-BmBBP antibodies revealed its presence in the follicle cells and in the ooplasm, as well as the nucleus of different developmental stages of oocytes

Objective: Quinoxaline derivatives were reported with wide range of biological activities. Hence it was planned to synthesize and screen for their anti inflammatory (in vivo) activity. Methods: Orthophenylene diamine was reacted with oxalic acid to form quinoxaline 2, 3 dione. Quinoxaline-2, 3 (1H, 4H)-dione was chlorinated by using Phosphorousoxytrichloride (POCl3) in dimethyl formamide, to form 2, 3- dichloroquinoxaline. This dichloride compound was reacted with 4 amino acetophenone in DMF, refluxed for 5 hours to form 1-(4-(3-chloroquinoxalin-2-ylamino) phenyl) ethanone. Similarly 1-(4-(3-chloroquinoxalin-2-ylamino) phenyl) ethanone was reacted with corresponding aromatic aldehydes to form quinoxaline derived chalcone by Claisen Schmidt reaction. Characterization all the compounds was performed by IR, 1H NMR and Mass spectroscopic data and screened for anti- inflammatory activity by carrageenan- induced paw edema method. Results: The anti inflammatory data suggested that compounds QCAC 2, 6, 8, 9, 10 and 12 showed significant activity and rest of the compounds exhibited moderate activity compared to the standard compoundConclusion: The compounds bearing nitro, chloro and methoxy groups have shown prominent activity when compared to compounds without these groups.Â

Neumann-Rosochatius system for strings on I-brane

We study rigidly rotating and pulsating strings in the background of a 1+1 dimensional intersection of two orthogonal stacks of fivebranes in type IIB string theory by using the Neumann-Rosochatius (NR) model. Starting with the Polyakov action of the probe fundamental string we show that a generalised ansatz reduce the system into the one dimensional NR model in the presence of flux. The integrable construction of the model is exploited to analyze the rotating and oscillating string solution. We render the large JJ BMN-type expansion for the energy of rotating string states while the same for the oscillating string has been derived in long string and small angular momenta limit.Comment: 18 page

    Neumann-Rosochatius system for rotating strings in AdS3×S3×S3×S1AdS_3 \times S^3\times S^3\times S^1 with flux

Strings on AdS3×S3×S3×S1AdS_3 \times S^3\times S^3\times S^1 with mixed flux exhibit exact integrability. We wish to construct an integrable Neumann-Rosochatius (NR) model of strings starting with the type IIB supergravity action in AdS3×S3×S3×S1AdS_3 \times S^3\times S^3\times S^1 with pure NSNS flux. We observe that the forms of the Lagrangian and the Uhlenbeck integrals of motion of the considered system are NR-like with some suitable deformations which eventually appear due to the presence of flux. We utilize the integrable framework of the deformed NR model to analyze rigidly rotating spiky strings moving only in S3×S1S^3\times S^1. We further present some mathematical speculations on the rounding-off nature of the spike in the presence of non-zero angular momentum JJ in S1S^1.Comment: 24 page

Background: Rational use of medicines promotes good health practices and prevents inappropriate use of medicines, polypharmacy, unnecessary use of antimicrobials, injections, and also encourages use of medicines from essential medicine list and dispensing by generic names. The aim of the study was to analyze the outpatient prescriptions of a tertiary care centre by utilizing World Health Organization (WHO) core drug use prescribing indicators. Methods: A retrospective observational study was conducted in a tertiary care health setup at Puducherry, South India. Outpatient prescriptions from all the major clinical departments were analyzed using WHO prescribing indicators and they were compared with some similar studies. Results: The average number of drugs per prescription was 2.74. The percentage of prescriptions with antibiotics was 20.33% and the percentage of prescriptions with injections was 0.16%. The percentage of drugs prescribed by generic names and from essential medicine list was 83.13% and 87.9 respectively. Further antibiotic utilization was found to be higher in the department of ENT (56.67%), respiratory medicine (45%) and surgery (40%). Percentage of drugs prescribed by generic names in pediatrics and respiratory medicine were found to be 67.88% and 65.27% and percentage of drugs prescribed from essential medicine list in dermatology was 69.62%.Conclusions: Prescription pattern followed in our Institute almost adheres to the guidelines laid down by the WHO. Moreover, it is also implied that a routine audit of this type should be done in health care setups to ensure that they adhere to the WHO guidelines for better health care

AbstractIn the present study the antihistaminic activity of tricyclic benzothieno 1,2,3-triazine derivatives namely CP-3 (3-(phenyl)-5,6,7,8-tetrahydro,3H-benzo[4,5] thieno [2,3-d][1,2,3] triazin-4-one), CP-5 (3-(3-methyl phenyl)-5,6,7,8-tetrahydro,3H-benzo[4,5] thieno [2,3-d][1,2,3] triazin-4-one) and CP-8 (3-(4-chloro phenyl)-5,6,7,8-tetrahydro,3H-benzo[4,5] thieno [2,3-d][1,2,3] triazin-4-one) were evaluated using in vitro (isolated guinea pig ileum) and in vivo (bronchodilator activity in guinea pigs) models and the sedative potential of the test compounds were evaluated using actophotometer in mice. In in vitro antihistaminic study, the CP-3, CP-5, CP-8 and chlorpheniramine maleate (CPM) have shown a rightward shift in concentration response curve (CRC) of histamine with a change in EC50 values of histamine in all the four tissue preparations. The slope obtained in the schild plot indicated that CP-5, CP-8 and CPM were competitive in nature for H1-receptors. However, CP-3 has shown non-competitive antagonism. In in vivo antihistaminic study, the CP-3, CP-5, CP-8 and CPM have shown mean increase in exposition time against histamine challenge compared to control group (p<0.001). All the test drugs (10mg/kg) and CPM (2mg/kg) have offered a significant (p<0.001) protection against preconvulsive dyspnoea (PCD) compared to control. In conclusion, all the test drugs have shown very good antihistaminic activity and the test drugs have very little sedative action compared to CPM

Background: Despite the scientific and technological advances maternal morbidity and mortality continue to occur across the globe with regional variation. Ectopic pregnancy is one such cause which contributes to devastating fate of pregnant ladies. Over a period of time there have been variations in the incidence, cause, clinical presentation and management of ectopic pregnancy. The objective is to observe variations with respect to incidence, cause, clinical presentation and management of ectopic pregnancyMethods: The present study was a 1year prospective and 1 year retrospective study from Dec 2012 to Nov 2014 at a tertiary medical college in Karnataka.  All diagnosed cases of ectopic pregnancy were enrolled in the study. Statistical methods employed in the present study were contingency table, chi-square test and contingency coefficient analysis (cross tabs procedure). Results: 38 cases were studied during two year period out of which 94.8% were tubal pregnancies, 2.6% each were cervical pregnancy and pregnancy in the rudimentary horn of the uterus. Maximum incidence of tubal gestation was noticed between the age group of 21-30 years (60.1%). 55.2% were nulliparous and 29% were multiparas. Commonest mode of termination was rupture in 57.9% of the cases; tubal abortion was seen with haemoperitoneum in 26.3% of the cases. Conclusions: Ectopic pregnancy remains a significant gynaecologic emergency, delay in diagnosis and treatment can be catastrophic, but early diagnosis and timely treatment can virtually eliminate need for surgical intervention
