On the theory of magnetic field dependence of heat conductivity in dielectric in isotropic model
Phonon polarization in a magnetic field is analyzed in isotropic model. It is
shown, that at presence of spin-phonon interaction phonon possess circular
polari-zation which causes the appearance of heat flux component perpendicular

Dialogical self strategies of self-organization: psychotherapy and restructuring of internal management
A identidade tem sido um conceito central na literatura em psicologia e na forma como as diferentes abordagens terapêuticas têm concebido os processos de mudança. Entre as inúmeras perspectivas desenvolvidas sobre essa dimensão do ser humano, destacamos o paradigma dialógico que tem vindo a influenciar de forma crescente a teoria e prática em psicoterapia. Segundo esta perspectiva, a funcionalidade psicológica está relacionada com o modo como os indivíduos conseguem articular e colocar em diálogo produtivo as suas várias vozes ou posições de identidade. Neste artigo apresentamos uma revisão da literatura sobre as estratégias que subjazem a essa capacidade auto-organizadora do sistema identitário e sobre as diretrizes que poderão orientar uma intervenção terapêutica dialógica quando essa capacidade se torna disfuncional.Self-concept has been playing a crucial role in psychological literature and in the way the different therapeutic approaches conceive the processes of change. From the diverse perspectives developed about this human dimension, we emphasise the dialogical paradigm that has been increasingly influential in the psychotherapeutic theory and practice. According to the dialogical perspective the psychological well-being is dependent on the way individuals articulate and maintain productive dialogues between the different voices of the self or “I-Positions”. In this paper we present a review of the literature on the strategies that underlie this self-regulatory ability of the self-system and the guidelines of the dialogical therapeutic intervention that could be used when these self-regulatory strategies become dysfunctional.(undefined
Variation at the capsule locus, cps, of mistyped and non-typable Streptococcus pneumoniae isolates
The capsule polysaccharide locus (cps) is the site of the capsule biosynthesis gene cluster in encapsulated Streptococcus pneumoniae. A set of pneumococcal samples and non-pneumococcal streptococci from Denmark, the Gambia, the Netherlands, Thailand, the UK and the USA were sequenced at the cps locus to elucidate serologically mistyped or non-typable isolates. We identified a novel serotype 33B/33C mosaic capsule cluster and previously unseen serotype 22F capsule genes, disrupted and deleted cps clusters, the presence of aliB and nspA genes that are unrelated to capsule production, and similar genes in the non-pneumococcal samples. These data provide greater understanding of diversity at a locus which is crucial to the antigenic diversity of the pathogen and current vaccine strategies
The role of Rayleigh-Taylor instabilities in filament threads
Many solar filaments and prominences show short-lived horizontal threads
lying parallel to the photosphere. In this work the possible link between
Rayleigh-Taylor instabilities and thread lifetimes is investigated. This is
done by calculating the eigenmodes of a thread modelled as a Cartesian slab
under the presence of gravity. An analytical dispersion relation is derived
using the incompressible assumption for the magnetohydrodynamic (MHD)
perturbations. The system allows a mode that is always stable, independently of
the value of the Alfv\'en speed in the thread. The character of this mode
varies from being localised at the upper interface of the slab when the
magnetic field is weak, to having a global nature and resembling the transverse
kink mode when the magnetic field is strong. On the contrary, the slab model
permits another mode that is unstable and localised at the lower interface when
the magnetic field is weak. The growth rates of this mode can be very short, of
the order of minutes for typical thread conditions. This Rayleigh-Taylor
unstable mode becomes stable when the magnetic field is increased, and in the
limit of strong magnetic field it is essentially a sausage magnetic mode. The
gravity force might have a strong effect on the modes of oscillation of
threads, depending on the value of the Alfv\'en speed. In the case of threads
in quiescent filaments, where the Alfv\'en speed is presumably low, very short
lifetimes are expected according to the slab model. In active region
prominences, the stabilising effect of the magnetic tension might be enough to
suppress the Rayleigh-Taylor instability for a wide range of wavelengths
Entanglement between a diamond spin qubit and a photonic time-bin qubit at telecom wavelength
We report on the realization and verification of quantum entanglement between
an NV electron spin qubit and a telecom-band photonic qubit. First we generate
entanglement between the spin qubit and a 637 nm photonic time-bin qubit,
followed by photonic quantum frequency conversion that transfers the
entanglement to a 1588 nm photon. We characterize the resulting state by
correlation measurements in different bases and find a lower bound to the Bell
state fidelity of F = 0.77 +/- 0.03. This result presents an important step
towards extending quantum networks via optical fiber infrastructure
Reservoir Computing Approach to Robust Computation using Unreliable Nanoscale Networks
As we approach the physical limits of CMOS technology, advances in materials
science and nanotechnology are making available a variety of unconventional
computing substrates that can potentially replace top-down-designed
silicon-based computing devices. Inherent stochasticity in the fabrication
process and nanometer scale of these substrates inevitably lead to design
variations, defects, faults, and noise in the resulting devices. A key
challenge is how to harness such devices to perform robust computation. We
propose reservoir computing as a solution. In reservoir computing, computation
takes place by translating the dynamics of an excited medium, called a
reservoir, into a desired output. This approach eliminates the need for
external control and redundancy, and the programming is done using a
closed-form regression problem on the output, which also allows concurrent
programming using a single device. Using a theoretical model, we show that both
regular and irregular reservoirs are intrinsically robust to structural noise
as they perform computation
The effect of functional roles on perceived group efficiency during computer-supported collaborative learning
In this article, the effect of functional roles on group performance and collaboration during computer-supported collaborative learning (CSCL) is investigated. Especially the need for triangulating multiple methods is emphasised: Likert-scale evaluation questions, quantitative content analysis of e-mail communication and qualitative analysis of open-ended questions were used. A comparison of fourty-one questionnaire observations, distributed over thirteen groups in two research conditions – groups with prescribed functional roles (n = 7, N = 18) and nonrole groups (n = 6, N = 23) – revealed no main effect for performance (grade). Principal axis factoring of the Likert-scales revealed a latent variable that was interpreted as perceived group efficiency (PGE). Multilevel modelling (MLM) yielded a positive marginal effect of PGE. Most groups in the role condition report a higher degree of PGE than nonrole groups. Content analysis of e-mail communication of all groups in both conditions (role n = 7, N = 25; nonrole n = 6, N = 26) revealed that students in role groups contribute more ‘coordination’ focussed statements. Finally, results from cross case matrices of student responses to open-ended questions support the observed marginal effect that most role groups report a higher degree of perceived group efficiency than nonrole groups
