Non-Gaussianity as a Particle Detector
We study the imprints of massive particles with spin on cosmological
correlators. Using the framework of the effective field theory of inflation, we
classify the couplings of these particles to the Goldstone boson of broken time
translations and the graviton. We show that it is possible to generate
observable non-Gaussianity within the regime of validity of the effective
theory, as long as the masses of the particles are close to the Hubble scale
and their interactions break the approximate conformal symmetry of the
inflationary background. We derive explicit shape functions for the scalar and
tensor bispectra that can serve as templates for future observational searches.Comment: 55 pages, 10 figure
Exploring accuracy and impact of concurrent and retrospective self-talk among golfers
The current study aimed to provide insight into the types and frequency of self-talk of skilled golfers (n = 6) by considering and comparing concurrent verbalization and retrospective reports. Each participant wore a microphone to record his thoughts while verbalizing them for the duration of nine holes of golf on three separate occasions. The researchers transcribed and coded this verbalized self-talk. Participants also completed a retrospective self-talk questionnaire at the conclusion of each round. Results suggest that participants’ concurrent verbalization and retrospective reports were inconsistent, specifically with regard to function (i.e., motivational versus instructional) and valence (i.e., positive, negative, and neutral), and that participants felt their concurrent verbalization more accurately reflected their experiences. The results support previous research that indicates that retrospective reports of self-talk may not provide accurate insight into what athletes actually say to themselves as they perform in their sports, while asserting that concurrent verbalization may be a more accurate representation of their self-talk experiences
Space processing of crystals for opto-electronic devices: The case for solution growth
The results obtained during a six month program aimed at determining the viability of space processing in the 1980's of dielectric-elastic-magnetic single crystals were described. The results of this program included: identification of some important emerging technologies dependent on dielectric-elastic-magnetic crystals, identification of the impact of intrinsic properties and defects in the single crystals on system performance, determination of a sensible common basis for the many crystals of this class, and identification of the benefits of micro-gravity and some initial experimental evidence that these benefits can be realized in space. It is concluded that advanced computers and optical communications are at a development stage for high demand of dielectric-elastic-magnetic single crystals in the mid-1980's. Their high unit cost and promise for significantly increased perfection by growth in space justified pursuit of space processing

Partially Massless Fields During Inflation
The representation theory of de Sitter space allows for a category of
partially massless particles which have no flat space analog, but could have
existed during inflation. We study the couplings of these exotic particles to
inflationary perturbations and determine the resulting signatures in
cosmological correlators. When inflationary perturbations interact through the
exchange of these fields, their correlation functions inherit scalings that
cannot be mimicked by extra massive fields. We discuss in detail the squeezed
limit of the tensor-scalar-scalar bispectrum, and show that certain partially
massless fields can violate the tensor consistency relation of single-field
inflation. We also consider the collapsed limit of the scalar trispectrum, and
find that the exchange of partially massless fields enhances its magnitude,
while giving no contribution to the scalar bispectrum. These characteristic
signatures provide clean detection channels for partially massless fields

The Cosmological Bootstrap: Inflationary Correlators from Symmetries and Singularities
Scattering amplitudes at weak coupling are highly constrained by Lorentz
invariance, locality and unitarity, and depend on model details only through
coupling constants and particle content. In this paper, we develop an
understanding of inflationary correlators which parallels that of flat-space
scattering amplitudes. Specifically, we study slow-roll inflation with weak
couplings to extra massive particles, for which all correlators are controlled
by an approximate conformal symmetry on the boundary of the spacetime. After
classifying all possible contact terms in de Sitter space, we derive an
analytic expression for the four-point function of conformally coupled scalars
mediated by the tree-level exchange of massive scalars. Conformal symmetry
implies that the correlator satisfies a pair of differential equations with
respect to spatial momenta, encoding bulk time evolution in purely boundary
terms. The absence of unphysical singularities completely fixes this
correlator. A spin-raising operator relates it to the correlators associated
with the exchange of particles with spin, while weight-shifting operators map
it to the four-point function of massless scalars. We explain how these de
Sitter four-point functions can be perturbed to obtain inflationary three-point
functions. We reproduce many classic results in the literature and provide a
complete classification of all inflationary three- and four-point functions
arising from weakly broken conformal symmetry. The inflationary bispectrum
associated with the exchange of particles with arbitrary spin is completely
characterized by the soft limit of the simplest scalar-exchange four-point
function of conformally coupled scalars and a series of contact terms. Finally,
we demonstrate that the inflationary correlators contain flat-space scattering

Effects Of Sleep Deprivation With 110-Minute Rest Period On Postural Control In Young Adults
Computerized Dynamic Posturography (CDP) is used by many different professionals as an objective tool to measure different aspects of postural control. For audiologists, CDP is used to assess the vestibular system and its interactions with the somatosensory and visual systems. There is evidence that postural control is negatively affected by sleep deprivation. To date, there is limited knowledge on whether a 110-minute rest period will improve or even restore postural control abilities back to baseline. The present study was designed to further study the effects of sleep deprivation on different aspects of postural control and to examine the effectiveness of a 110-minute rest period at restoring values to baseline. CDP was used to examine the following: sensory organization test (SOT), motor control test (MCT), and adaptation (ADT) at baseline, after 23-26 hours of sleep deprivation, and after a 110-minute rest period. Participants consisted of 19 young adults. Results indicated an increased composite MCT latency score following a rest period compared to baseline values. A decrease in ADT reaction time following a rest period was noted compared to baseline and sleep deprivation conditions. Future studies should make use of more sensitive equipment, utilize an EEG to ensure sleep and avoid testing during sleep inertia
The Broken Beef Cattle Industry: COOL, COVID and CattleTrace
While the Kansas City Stockyards themselves are gone, just like in the early 20th Century, a beef monopoly has once again found its way into the industry, and a way around the Packers and Stockyards Act of 1921 and is again suffocating the industry. While at the time of the act’s passage in 1921 five companies controlled the market, today the market is even more consolidated in the “Big Four,” as the four biggest meat packing companies in America are commonly known (Cargill, Tyson, JBS and National Beef/Marfrig), and are again arguably stifling the free-market. If Americans do not act quickly to address this extreme consolidation, then the free-market, independent cattle rancher will soon face the same fate as the Kansas City Stockyards, and soon, like the Stockyards, will simply be history and a distant memory. This is not only bad news for the American rancher, but is even worse news for the American consumer, as the consolidation creates food security and food safety issues, as highlighted by the recent events of 2020-2021 surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic
