Joint-search theory: new opportunities and new frictions
Search theory routinely assumes that decisions about the acceptance/rejection of job offers (and, hence, about labor market movements between jobs or across employment states) are made by individuals acting in isolation. In reality, the vast majority of workers are somewhat tied to their partners - in couples and families - and decisions are made jointly. This paper studies, from a theoretical viewpoint, the joint job-search and location problem of a household formed by a couple (e.g., husband and wife) who perfectly pools income. The objective of the exercise, very much in the spirit of standard search theory, is to characterize the reservation wage behavior of the couple and compare it to the single-agent search model in order to understand the ramifications of partnerships for individual labor market outcomes and wage dynamics. We focus on two main cases. First, when couples are risk averse and pool income, joint search yields new opportunities - similar to on-the-job search - relative to the single-agent search. Foreground object segmentation in RGB-D data implemented on GPU
This paper presents a GPU implementation of two foreground object
segmentation algorithms: Gaussian Mixture Model (GMM) and Pixel Based Adaptive
Segmenter (PBAS) modified for RGB-D data support. The simultaneous use of
colour (RGB) and depth (D) data allows to improve segmentation accuracy,
especially in case of colour camouflage, illumination changes and occurrence of
shadows. Three GPUs were used to accelerate calculations: embedded NVIDIA
Jetson TX2 (Maxwell architecture), mobile NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050m (Pascal
architecture) and efficient NVIDIA RTX 2070 (Turing architecture). Segmentation
accuracy comparable to previously published works was obtained. Moreover, the
use of a GPU platform allowed to get real-time image processing. In addition,
the system has been adapted to work with two RGB-D sensors: RealSense D415 and

Amyloid-like peptide nanofiber templated titania nanostructures as dye sensitized solar cell anodic materials
Cataloged from PDF version of article.One-dimensional titania nanostructures can serve as a support for light absorbing molecules and result in an improvement in the short circuit current (Jsc) and open circuit voltage (Voc) as a nanostructured and high-surface-area material in dye-sensitized solar cells. Here, self-assembled amyloid-like peptide nanofibers were exploited as an organic template for the growth of one-dimensional titania nanostructures. Nanostructured titania layers were utilized as anodic materials in dye sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). The photovoltaic performance of the DSSC devices was assessed and an enhancement in the overall cell performance compared to unstructured titania was observed. © 2013 The Royal Society of Chemistry
Performance of a diagnostic algorithm for fibrotic hypersensitivity pneumonitis. A case-control study.
The differential diagnosis fibrotic hypersensitivity pneumonitis (HP) versus idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is important but challenging. Recent diagnostic guidelines for HP emphasize including multidisciplinary discussion (MDD) in the diagnostic process, however MDD is not comprehensively available. We aimed to establish the diagnostic accuracy and prognostic validity of a previously proposed HP diagnostic algorithm that foregoes MDD.
We tested the algorithm in patients with an MDD diagnosis of fibrotic HP or IPF (case control study) and determined diagnostic test performances for diagnostic confidences of ≥ 90% and ≥ 70%. Prognostic validity was established using Cox proportional hazards models.
Thirty-one patients with fibrotic HP and 50 IPF patients were included. The algorithm-derived ≥ 90% confidence level for HP had high specificity (0.94, 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.83-0.99), but low sensitivity (0.35 [95%CI 0.19-0.55], J-index 0.29). Test performance was improved for the ≥ 70% confidence level (J-index 0.64) with a specificity of 0.90 (95%CI 0.78-0.97), and a sensitivity of 0.74 (95%CI 0.55-0.88). MDD fibrotic HP diagnosis was strongly associated with lower risk of death (adjusted hazard ratio [HR] 0.10 [0.01-0.92], p = 0.04), whereas the algorithm-derived ≥ 70% and ≥ 90% confidence diagnoses were not significantly associated with survival (adjusted HR 0.37 [0.07-1.80], p = 0.22, and adjusted HR 0.41 [0.05-3.25], p = 0.39, respectively).
The algorithm-derived ≥ 70% diagnostic confidence had satisfactory test performance for MDD-HP diagnosis, with insufficient sensitivity for ≥ 90% confidence. The lowest risk of death in the MDD-derived HP diagnosis validates the reference standard and suggests that a diagnostic algorithm not including MDD, might not replace the latter

INTEGRATING EXPERTISES and AMBITIONS for DATA-DRIVEN DIGITAL BUILDING PERMITS - The EUNET4DBP
The digitalization of the process for building permit (involving the use of 3D information systems) is seen as a priority in a wide part of the world. Since it is a very multidisciplinary use case, involving a variety of stakeholders tackling complex issues and topics, some of them joined their efforts and skills in the European Network for Digital Building Permit. The initial activity of the network, after a review of on-going experiences, was a workshop to share knowledge about the topics involved and to identify the main ambitions of the network with respect to three pillars (i.e. Process - Rules and Requirements - Technology) and the related requirements. It was achieved through a collective brainstorming activity guided by digital tools, whose results were further analysed in a post-processing phase. Such results are presented in this paper and will be the base for planning the future network activity
Double Spin Asymmetries A_NN and A_SS at sqrt{s}=200 GeV in Polarized Proton-Proton Elastic Scattering at RHIC
We present the first measurements of the double spin asymmetries A_NN and
A_SS at sqrt{s}=200 GeV, obtained by the pp2pp experiment using polarized
proton beams at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC). The data were
collected in the four momentum transfer t range 0.01<|t|<0.03 (GeV/c)^2. The
measured asymmetries, which are consistent with zero, allow us to estimate
upper limits on the double helicity-flip amplitudes phi_2 and phi_4 at small t
as well as on the difference Delta(sigma_T) between the total cross sections
for transversely polarized protons with antiparallel or parallel spin

G Electronics and Data Acquisition (Forward-Angle Measurements)
The G parity-violation experiment at Jefferson Lab (Newport News, VA) is
designed to determine the contribution of strange/anti-strange quark pairs to
the intrinsic properties of the proton. In the forward-angle part of the
experiment, the asymmetry in the cross section was measured for
elastic scattering by counting the recoil protons corresponding to the two
beam-helicity states. Due to the high accuracy required on the asymmetry, the
G experiment was based on a custom experimental setup with its own
associated electronics and data acquisition (DAQ) system. Highly specialized
time-encoding electronics provided time-of-flight spectra for each detector for
each helicity state. More conventional electronics was used for monitoring
(mainly FastBus). The time-encoding electronics and the DAQ system have been
designed to handle events at a mean rate of 2 MHz per detector with low
deadtime and to minimize helicity-correlated systematic errors. In this paper,
we outline the general architecture and the main features of the electronics
