Phase transition in a super superspin glass

We here confirm the occurrence of spin glass phase transition and extract estimates of associated critical exponents of a highly monodisperse and densely compacted system of bare maghemite nanoparticles. This system has earlier been found to behave like an archetypal spin glass, with e.g. a sharp transition from paramagnetic to non-equilibrium behavior, suggesting that this system undergoes a spin-glass phase transition at a relatively high temperature, TgT_g \sim 140 K.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figure

O programa nacional de fortalecimento da agricultura familiar no Brasil: uma análise sobre a distribuição regional e setorial dos recursos.

    Get PDF

Stochastic model for the dynamics of interacting Brownian particles

Using the scheme of mesoscopic nonequilibrium thermodynamics, we construct the one- and two- particle Fokker-Planck equations for a system of interacting Brownian particles. By means of these equations we derive the corresponding balance equations. We obtain expressions for the heat flux and the pressure tensor which enable one to describe the kinetic and potential energy interchange of the particles with the heat bath. Through the momentum balance we analyze in particular the diffusion regime to obtain the collective diffusion coefficient in terms of the hydrodynamic and the effective forces acting on the Brownian particles.Comment: latex fil

Electron and Phonon Temperature Relaxation in Semiconductors Excited by Thermal Pulse

Electron and phonon transient temperatures are analyzed in the case of nondegenerate semiconductors. An analytical solution is obtained for rectangular laser pulse absorption. It is shown that thermal diffusion is the main energy relaxation mechanism in the phonon subsystem. The mechanism depends on the correlation between the sample length and the electron cooling length in an electron subsystem. Energy relaxation occurs by means of the electron thermal diffusion in thin samples (), and by means of the electron-phonon energy interaction in thick samples (). Characteristic relaxation times are obtained for all the cases, and analysis of these times is made. Electron and phonon temperature distributions in short and long samples are qualitatively and quantitatively analyzed for different correlations between the laser pulse duration and characteristic times.Comment: 33 pages, 16 figure

Time periodicity and dynamical stability in two-boson systems

We calculate the period of recurrence of dynamical systems comprising two interacting bosons. A number of theoretical issues related to this problem are discussed, in particular, the conditions for small periodicity. The knowledge gathered in this way is then used to propose a notion of dynamical stability based on the stability of the period. Dynamical simulations show good agreement with the proposed scheme. We also apply the results to the phenomenon known as coherent population trapping and find stability conditions in this specific case.Comment: 7+ pages, 5 figure

The poetics of indigenous radio in Colombia

    Get PDF
In 2002, 14 indigenous radio stations began operating in Colombia reaching 78.6 percent of the national indigenous population. Colombian indigenous radio stations are shaped by intense deliberations among each indigenous people about the poetics of information and communication technologies, understood as the exploration of the specific sets of social, cultural and political relations in which each radio station would exist if brought into each indigenous territory. Colombian indigenous peoples' appropriation of information and communication technologies is framed by new legislative frameworks made possible by the Colombian constitutional reform of 1991, by indigenous peoples' critique of Colombian mainstream media and, more significantly, by discussions among indigenous peoples about the adoption of radio — what we call a poetics of radio.Yeshttps://us.sagepub.com/en-us/nam/manuscript-submission-guideline

Adhesion mechanisms of Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae to the porcine respiratory system and biofilm formation

    Get PDF
Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae is a Gram-negative bacterium and the causative agent of porcine pleuropneumonia, a highly contagious disease of pigs characterised by fibrinohaemorrhagic necrotising pneumonia. Although it has been well controlled in some developed countries, outbreaks can occur in pigs of all ages in contact with asymptomatic carriers, leading to significant economic losses to the swine industry due to the high morbidity and mortality rates. Adhesion is a critical step in the colonisation of the swine respiratory tract and the pathogenesis of the porcine pleuropneumonia; however, a literature review of this process is not available to date. Therefore, this review aims to provide information regarding the molecules that have been described in the adhesion of A. pleuropneumoniae to cells and tissues of the porcine respiratory tract. Since adhesion is the first step in biofilm formation, we included a section to describe the genes involved in this process; some of these genes could participate directly or indirectly in the adhesion of A. pleuropneumoniae to the porcine respiratory system. Although the role of biofilms in porcine pleuropneumonia is still not clear, these molecules could be considered in the future as candidates for vaccine development
