    Zeolite mineralogy of the Cayo formation in Guayaquil, Ecuador

    This work shows the presence of zeolites in the Cretaceous Cayo formation in Coastal Ecuador. In the area of Guayaquil the Cayo formation consist of marine pyroclastic flow deposits, associated fallout tuffs and epiclastic rocks. The main zeolites are Ca-heulandite (mean Si/Al: 3.30) and Ca-clinoptilolite (mean Si/Al: 4.35). Less common are laumontite, mordenite and analcime. Zeolites compose 10–60% of the rocks.     As a result of the research project entitled: “Industrial Archaeology: Preservation of the Mining and Metallurgical Heritage in Madrid (IV)”. We have identified and studied two old glass furnaces (Century XVIII). This project is granted by the Council of Education of the Community of Madrid, Spain, on the branch called Humanities and Social Sciences. In Madrid there were glass factories in Cadalso, El Escorial, Valdemaqueda, Nuevo Baztán and other localities. This glasss manufactures caused the end of craftsmen industrial methods. We would the conservation of the vestiges of this industrial activity.Con motivo del proyecto de investigación de la Consejería de Educación de la Comunidad de Madrid (en Humanidades y Ciencias Sociales): ?Arqueología Industrial: Conservación del Patrimonio Minero Metalúrgico madrileño (IV)? hemos identificado y estudiado dos hornos antiguos para vidrio en Cadalso, del siglo XVIII. En Madrid hubo fábricas de vidrio en Cadalso, El Escorial, Valdemaqueda, Nuevo Baztán, etc. Estas fábricas vidrieras artesanas, desaparecieron para dejar paso a procesos industriales modernos.
