Beached Birds Survey. Mallorca 1992-93. The results of the 1992 and 1993 winters are presented. The number of birds found per kilometre is very low compared with other arcas (0.13 and 0.1 for 1992 and 1993, respectively), and no oiled birds were found. However, the effect of oil pollution should not be disregarded since oil is usually found on beaches and partially-oiled individuals of Larus audouinii have been recorded

Niche divergence and limits to expansion in the high polyploid Dianthus broteri complex

Niche evolution in plant polyploids remains controversial and evidence for alternative patterns has been reported. Using the autopolyploid Dianthus broteri complex (2×, 4×, 6× and 12×) as a model, we aimed to integrate three scenarios – competitive exclusion, recurrent origins of cytotypes and niche filling – into a single framework of polyploid niche evolution. We hypothesized that high polyploids would tend to evolve towards extreme niches when low ploidy cytotypes have nearly filled the niche space. We used several ecoinformatics and phylogenetic comparative analyses to quantify differences in the ecological niche of each cytotype and to evaluate alternative models of niche evolution. Each cytotype in this complex occupied a distinct ecological niche. The distributions were mainly constrained by soil characteristics, temperature and drought stress imposed by the Mediterranean climate. Tetraploids had the highest niche breadth and overlap due to their multiple origins, whereas the higher ploidy cytotypes were found in different, restricted, nonoverlapping niches. Niche evolution analyses suggested a scenario with one niche optimum for each ploidy, including the two independent tetraploid lineages.Our results suggest that the fate of nascent polyploids could not be predicted without accounting for phylogenetic relatedness, recurrent origins or the niche occupied by ancestors.Aridos La Melera S.L. Quart informe anual del Comitè d'Homologació de Rareses a Mallorca i Formentera. Se presenten 38 registres, la majoria de 1994. Se n'accepten 31 (81%). Entre ells destaquen els primers registres segurs d'ànnera glacial (Clangula hyemalis), rasclet petit (Porzana pusilla), escuraflascons (Phaloropus lobatos), siboc (Caprimulgus roficollis), gralla de bec vermell (Pyrrhocorax pyrrhocorax), estornell negre (Sturnus unicolor), verderol menut (Serinus citrinella) i pinsà trompeter (Bucanetes githagineus). També incloem, 11 observacions a Balears homologades pel Comité Ibérico de Rarezas (CIR) de la Sociedad Espafiola de Ornitología (SEO), informe de 1992, pertanyents a oca carablanca (Anser albifrons), xivitona cendrosa (Xenus cinereus), titina grossa (Anthus novaeseelandiae), ull de bou de dues retxes (Phylloscopus inornatus), ull de bou subspècie Siberiana (Phylloscopus collybita tristis), menjamosques de collar (Ficedula albicollis) i cap-xerigany subspècie oriental (Lanius senator niloticus).Homologation of bird rarities in Mallorca and Formentera. Report (1994). 38 records were submitted, most of them from 1994. 31 records (81%) have been accepted. Noteworthy are the first confirmed records of Long-tailed Duck (Clangula hyemalis), Baillon's Crake (Porzana pusilla), Red-necked Phalarope (Phaloropus lobatos), Red-necked Nightjar (Caprimulgus ruficollis), Chough (Pyrrhocorax pyrrhocorax), Spotless Starling (Sturnus unicolor), Citril Finch (and Trumpeter Finch (Bucanetes githagineus). Also presented are 11 records for the Balearics which were accepted by the Iberian Committee of Rarities (CIR) of the Spanish Ornithological Society (SEO) in its 1992 report, corresponding to White-fronted Goose (Anser albifrons), Terek Sandpiper (Xenus cinereus), Richard's Pipit (Anillos novaeseelandiae), Yellow-browed Warbler (Plrylloscopus inornatus), Chiffchaff subspècie Siberiana (Phylloscopus collybita tristis), Collared Flycatcher (Ficedula aïbicollis) and Woodchat Shrike subspècie oriental (Lanius senator niloticus)

S’han homologat 51 registres, corresponents a les següents espècies: esmerla Falco columbarius, corriol fosc Calidris maritima, llambritja becvermell Sterna caspia, siboc Caprimulgus ruficollis, coadreta Cercotrichas galactotes, boscaler Locustella luscinioides, bosqueta pàl·lida Hippolais opaca, busqueret xerraire Sylvia curruca, busqueret emmascarat Sylvia hortensis, coaric Aegithalos caudatus, capsigrany d’esquena roja Lanius collurio, gralla de bec vermell Pyrrhocorax pyrrhocorax, gorrió d’ala blanca Montifringilla nivalis, pinsà trompeter Bucanetes githagineus, i hortolà groc Emberiza citrinella. També hi incloem 7 observacions a Balears homologades pel Comité de Rarezas de la Sociedad Española de Ornitologia (CR-SEO), corresponents a l’informe de 2002. Hi destaquen dues homologacions fetes per primera vegada a les Balears: un gallet faver africà Porphyrio alleni i un cegall de bec llarg Limnodromus scolopaceus. La resta d’observacions són una àguila marina Haliaeetus albicilla, una arpella pàl·lida Circus macrourus, un corriol pectoral Calidris melanotos i un estornell rosat Sturnus roseus.Homologation of bird rarities in the Balearics. Fourteenth annual report presented by the GOB Committee of Ornithological Rarities. 51 reports have been homologated corresponding to the following species: Merlin Falco columbarius, Purple Sandpiper Calidris maritima, Caspian tern Sterna caspia, Red-necked Nightjar Caprimulgus ruficollis, Rufous Bush Robin Cercotrichas galactotes, Savi’s arbler Locustella luscinioides, Olivaceus warbler Hippolais opaca, Lesser Whitethroat Sylvia curruca, Orphean warbler Sylvia hortensis, Long-tailed tit Aegithalos caudatus, Red-backed Shrike Lanius collurio, Chough Pyrrhocorax pyrrhocorax, Snowfinch Montifringilla nivalis, Trumperter finch Bucanetes githagineus, i Yellowhammer Emberiza citrinella. We also include 7observations sighted in the Balearics Isles which were homologated by the Commttee of Rarities of the Spanish Society of Ornithology (CR-SEO) in its annual report of 2002. Two new homologations for the Balearics: Allen’s Gallinule Porphyrio alleni and Long-billed dowitcher Limnodromus scolopaceus. The rest of the sightings are White tailed Eagle Haliaeetus albicilla, Pallid harrier Circus macrourus, Pectoral Sandpiper Calidris melanotos and one Rose-coured starling Sturnus roseus

S’han homologat 12 registres, corresponents a les seguents espècies, esmerla Falco columbarius, guàtlera maresa Crex crex, fuell de collar Charadrius morinellus, siboc Caprimulgus ruficollis, coaric Aegithalos caudatus, capsigrany d’esquena roja Lanius collurio, estornell negre Sturnus unicolor, gorrió d’ala blanca Montifringilla nivalis, pinsà trompeter Bucanetes githagineus i hortolà negre Emberiza cia. També s’hi inclouen 5 observacions a Balears homologades pel Comité de Rarezas de la Sociedad Española de Ornitología (CR-SEO), corresponent a l’informe de 2004, en què destaquen tres registres homologats per primera vegada a les Balears, el abellerol gola-roig Merops persicus, tord daurat Zoothera dauma (dada antiga de 1912), i pinsà del desert Rhodospiza obsoleta (d’origen desconegut). Les altres observacions són del menjamosques de collar Ficedula albicollis.Ratification of bird records in the Balearics. Rarities report for 2006. The 16th annual report of the Rare Birds Committee of the GOB is presented. Twelve records were ratified, corresponding to the following species: merlin Falco columbarius, corncrake Crex crex, dotterel Charadrius morinellus, red-necked nightjar Caprimulgus ruficollis, long-tailed tit Aegithalos caudatus, red-backed shrike Lanius collurio, spotless starling Sturnus unicolor, snow bunting Montifringilla nivalis, trumpeter finch Bucanetes githagineus and rock bunting Emberiza cia. Records are also included for 5 observations in the Balearics ratified by the Rarities Committee of the Spanish Ornithological Society (CR-SEO), corresponding to their report for 2004, in which the highlight was the acceptance of three species recorded for the first time in the Balearics: blue-cheeked bee-eater Merops persicus, White’s Thrush Zoothera dauma (an historical record from 1912), and desert finch Rhodospiza obsoleta (of unknown origin). Desè informe anual que presenta el Comitè de Rareses Ornitològiques del GOB a Mallorca i Formentera S'han presentat 13 registres, corresponents a 10 espècies, de les quals s'homologuen 10 registres (el 76%). S'homologa i es registra per primera vegada el coaric Aegithalos caudatus. La resta d'observacions són de sel·la marbernca Marmaronetta angustirostris, gavina cendrosa Larus canus, miula Athene noctua, busqueret xerraire Sylvia curruca, capsigrany d'esquena roja Lanius collurio, verderol menut Serinus citrinella i pinsà trompeter Bucanetes githagineus. També hi incloem 16 observacions a Balears corresponents a 11 espe`cies homologades pel Comité de Rarezas de la Sociedad Española de Ornitología, en què destaca un registre homologat per primera vegada a Espanya, l'àguila pmerània Aquila pomarina. També destaquen, per ser la primera vegada que s'homologuen a les Balears, el pelic+a rosat Pelecanus rufescens, l'oca petita Anser erythropus, el busqueret garriguer subespècie oriental Sylvia cantillans albistriata i el capsigrany pàl·lid Lanius isabellinus. La resta d'observacions són d'ànnera canyella Tadorna ferruginea, menjamosques barba roig Ficedula parva, manjamosques de collar Ficedula albicollis, pinsà carminat Carpodacus erythrinus, hortolà petit Emberiza pusilla i hortolà capnegre Emeriza melanocephala.Homologation of bird rarities in Mallorca and Formetera. The report records for the first time the Long-tailed Til Aegithalos caudatus. The other records are of Marble Teal Marmaronetta angustirostris, Common Gull Larus canus. Little Owl Athenae noctua, Lesser Whitethroat Sylvia curruca, Red-backed Shrike Lanius collurio. Citril Finch Serinus citrinella and Trumpeler Finch Bucanates githagineus. Also there are included 16 records in the Balearic islands belonging to 11 species homologated by the Cominittee of the Spanish Ornithological Society, of which for the first time in Spain the Lesser Spotted Eagle Aquila pomarína has been homologated. Also for the first time in Balearic Islands Pink-backed Pelican Pelecanus rufescens, Lesser White-fronted Goose Anser erythropus. Subalpine Warhler oriental subspecies. Sylvia canlillans albistriata and Isabelline Shrike Lanius isabellinus. The rest of the records are Ruddy Shelduck Tadorna ferruginea, Red-breasted Flycateher Ficedula parva, Collared Flycatcher Ficedula albicollis. Connnon Rosefinch Carpodacus eryihrimis. Setè informe anual que presenta el Comitè de Rareses ornitològiques a Mallorca i Formentera, S'han presentat 32 registres. corresponents a 24 espècies. dels que s'homologuen 26 registres (el 81 %). N'excel·leixen les primeres observacions a Mallorca homologades de l'oca del camp Anser fabalis, ànnera d'ulls grocs 8Bucephala clangula, rascletó Porzana parva, gavina de cames roses Larus argentatus,llambritja bengalí Sterna bengalensis, pinsà borroner Pyrrhula pyrhula i hortolà negre Emberizacia. També s'hi inclouen, deu observacions a Balears homologades pel Comité de Rarezas de la Sociedad Española de Ornitología, en destaquen sis regislres homologats per primera vegada per a Balears, el corriol rogenc Tryngites subruficollis, camagroga gros Tringa melanoleuca, escuraflascons de Wilson Phaloropus tricolor, coablanca rossa subespècie occidental Oenanthe hispanica melanoleuca, ull de bou reietó Phylloscopus proregulus i hortolà caranegra Emberiza aureola. La resta d'observacions són el corriol pectoral Calidris melanotos, la titina de Richard Anthus richardi, l'ull de bou de ducs retxes Phylloscopus inornatus i el pinsà carminat Carpodacus erythrinus

S'han homologat 18 registres, corresponents a les següents espècies, moretó cabussó Aythya marila, esmerla Falco columbarius, guàtlera maresa Crex crex, fuell de collar Charadrius morinellus, cucui reial Clamator glandarius, bosqueta pàl·lida Hippolais pallida, busqueret emmascarat Sylvia hortensis, busqueret xerraire Sylvia curruca, capsigrany d'esquena roja Lanius collurio, gralla de bec vermell Pyrrhocorax pyrrhocorax i hortolà groc Emberiza citrinella. Twelveth annual report presented by the GOB Committee of Ornitologic Rarities, 18 reports have been homologated corresponding to the following species, Scaup Aythya marila, Merlin Falco columbarius, Corncrake Crex crex, Dotterel Charadrius morinellus, Great Spotted Cuckoo Clamator glandarius, Olivaceous Warbler Hippolais pallida, Orphean Warbler Sylvia hortensis, Lesser Whitethroat Sylvia curruca, Red-backed Shrike Lanius collurio, Chough Pyrrhocorax pyrrhocorax and Yellowhammer Emberiza citrinella. We also include 14 observations sighted in the Balearic Islands which were homologated by the Committee of Rarities of the Spanish Society of Ornitolology (CR-SEO) in its annual report of 2000. Two of these observations stand out because it is the first time they have been homologated in the Balearic Islands: Western Reef Egret Egretta gularis, Egyptian Goose Alopochen aegyptiacus, Dusky Warbler Phylloscopus fuscatus and Rosy Starling Sturnus roseus. The rest of the observations are the Ruddy Shelduck Tadorna ferruginea, bluewinged Teal Anas discors, Citrine Wagtail Motacilla citreola, Yellow-browed Warbler Phylloscopus inornatus and Collared Flycatcher Ficedula albicollis
