Reexamination of a Bound on the Dirac Neutrino Magnetic Moment from the Supernova Neutrino Luminosity
The neutrino helicity-flip process under the conditions of the supernova core
is reinvestigated. Instead of the uniform ball model for the SN core used in
previous analyses, realistic models for radial distributions and time evolution
of physical parameters in the SN core are considered. A new upper bound on the
Dirac neutrino magnetic moment is obtained from the limit on the supernova core
luminosity for nu_R emission.Comment: 13 pages, LaTeX, 8 EPS figures, submitted to Int. J. Mod. Phys.
On the conformational structure of a stiff homopolymer
In this paper we complete the study of the phase diagram and conformational
states of a stiff homopolymer. It is known that folding of a sufficiently stiff
chain results in formation of a torus. We find that the phase diagram obtained
from the Gaussian variational treatment actually contains not one, but several
distinct toroidal states distinguished by the winding number. Such states are
separated by first order transition curves terminating in critical points at
low values of the stiffness. These findings are further supported by
off-lattice Monte Carlo simulation. Moreover, the simulation shows that the
kinetics of folding of a stiff chain passes through various metastable states
corresponding to hairpin conformations with abrupt U-turns.Comment: 9 pages, 16 PS figures. Journal of Chemical Physics, in pres
Industrial Parks in Russia: Conceptual Development of Projects
The paper presents a theoretical framework of industrial parks effectiveness as an element of economic policy to accelerate economy development in regions or municipalities. The article studies how historically such instruments were used in modern Russia. The paper states the necessity of extensive development of the industrial park concept and how it affects the chances of project realization and potential economic effectiveness. The main parts and blocks that should be taken into account during concept preparations are highlighted, and proposals for their content are made
Post-buckling behavior of a beam-column on a nonlinear elastic foundation with a gap
The structural behavior of an elastic beam-column placed with a gap between two nonlinearity elastic layers each resting on a rigid foundation was examined. The beam-column was laterally supported at both ends and subjected to a uniform transverse load and axial compression. Its slenderness was such that the axial compressive force exceeds the amount that would be necessary to buckle it as a simple supported column. The elastic layers were represented by an elastic foundation with a strongly nonlinear specific reaction taken as a rapidly increasing function of the layer compression. The analytical model developed simulated the entire pattern of the deflection and stress state including layer and end support reactions, under gradually increasing axial force
