    Epidemiologic Study on Nutrition and Management Related Diseases in Feeding Cattle Agricultural By-products

    ABSTRACT The aim of study was to reveal the major facets animal health status as related to feeding, farming management, environment and animal production. A cross-sectional study was conducted in Boyolali region Central Java, involving 50 randomly selected farms covered 129 lactating FH cows, 15 FH heifers, 41 FH calves, 1 FH bull, 11 Ongole cows, 3 Ongole bulls. Information was obtained from personal interview with smalholder farmers, measeurement of milk yield and feedstuff given to animal, clinical evaluation and mastitis test (Bovivet®). The result showed that based on net energy for lactation (NEL) the feedstuff could only provide 6 l/day. The prevalence proportion was 10.85% for clinical mastitis, 34.8% was for nutritional diseases which bloat was the most frequent fatal occurrence. Skin diseases were attacking 85.92% of selected cows, while 13% of cows were in helminthiasis treatment. Although it was not significant different (P>0.05) utilization feedstuffs combination as related to milk production level of > 10 l/day. Governmental and non-governmental husbandry sector should cooperate in order to make progress and to help the farmers in decision making process to minimize risk factors.     JUMLAH KOLONI DAN JENIS MIKRORGANISME SUSU KAMBING SAANEN TERINDIKASI MASTITIS SUBKLINIS PASCA PEMBERIAN SERBUK BIJI PINANG BINAHONG DAN KOMBINASINYA

    Penelitian dilaksanakan pada tanggal 14 Desember 2015 – 3 Januari 2016 di BBPTU Baturraden, Purwokerto dan Balai laboratorium Kesmavet Purwokerto, Jawa Tengah. Penelitian betujuan untuk mengetahui hubungan antara serbuk biji pinang dan binahong yang mengandung zat antimikroba terhadap jumlah dan jenis mikroba dalam susu pada kambing Saanen Laktasi yang terindikasi mastitis subklinis. Penelitian menggunakan 20 ekor kambing Saanen laktasi yang terindikasi mastitis subklinis. Data dianalisis menggunakan Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) dengan 4 perlakuan dan 5 ulangan (T0: tanpa perlakuan; T1: serbuk biji pinang; T2: serbuk binahong; T3: serbuk biji pinang dan binahong) dengan dosis 1 g/kg BB untuk setiap perlakuan. Pemberian serbuk dilakukan setiap siang sebelum pemerahan dengan mencampurkan bersama konsentrat. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan adanya penurunan jumlah mikroba susu, namun secara statistic tidak signifikan (P>0.05). Sebelum perlakuan bakteri gram positif lebih domina, namun setelah perlakuan jenis bakteri gram negative lebih banyak. Perbaikan kondisi pada setiap individu ditunjukkan oleh pH susu akhir penelitian berkisar antara 6,5-6,7 yang sebelumnya berkisar antara 7-7,22. Kelompok T3 menunjukkan perbaikan kondisi yang paling baik dibandingkan dengan kelompok yang lain. Disimpulkan bahwa biji pinang dan binahong dapat menurunkan jumlag koloni dan jenis mikroba bergram positif. Kata Kunci : Mastitis Subklinis; Binahong; Biji Pinang; Jumlah dan Jenis Mikroba

    Dietary supplementation of probiotics in poultry exposed to heat stress – a review

    Heat-related stress has become a serious problem in poultry industry along with the global temperatures rise. Heat stress causes detrimental effects on physiology, immunology and microbiology resulting in abnormalities and impaired performances of birds. Several nutritional strategies have been conducted to counteract the detrimental effects of heat stress in poultry, including dietary supplementation of probiotics. This strategy has been proposed to ameliorate the intestinal ecosystem, physiological conditions and immune system, leading to the improved performance and health of birds subjected to heat stress. This review presents the potential benefits of probiotics against heat stress in poultry from the viewpoint of intestinal microbial ecology, morphology and structure, physiological conditions, immune system and production performances. The possible mechanisms through which probiotics may give beneficial impacts on heat-stressed birds are also discussed along with the data reporting the possible drawbacks of using probiotics in heat-stressed poultry

    Pengaruh Penambahan Suplemen Temulawak dan Zn-proteinat terhadap Kadar Hemoglobin, Hematokrit dan Aktivitas Enzim Fosfatase Alkalis pada Sapi Perah Penderita Mastitis Subklinis

    The research aimed to examine the influence of the effect of curcuma supplementation and Zn-proteinat on level of hemoglobin, hematocrit and alkaline phosphatase enzyme activity in subclinical mastitis of dairy cows. The material used 16 dairy cows (PFH) in with subclinical mastitis. The diet consist of elephants grass, field grass, tofu waste and concentrate. The experiment used were Randomized Block Design (RBD) with 4 treatments and 4 replications. Four treatments were T0=Feed control without the addition of Curcuma xanthoriza and Zn proteinate, T1= Feed+2% Curcuma xanthorhiza suplement, T2=Feed+ 40 ppm Zn proteinate suplement, T3=Feed+2% Curcuma xanthorhiza suplement+40 ppm Zn proteinate suplement. Parameters measured were the level of hemoglobin, hematocrit and alkaline phosphatase enzyme activity. The results showed that the treatment were not significant effect (P> 0,05). The average on the level of hemoglobin before treatment T0, T1, T2, and T3 7,83; 9,13; 7,68 and 7,85g/dl , and after treatment and T0, T1, T2 and T3 9,30; 9,20; 8,65 and 9,33. The average on the level of hematocrit before treatment T0, T1, T2 and T3 27,50; 27,25; 26,25; 25,75%, and after treatment T0, T1, T2, T3 27,25; 27,25; 26,25 and 25,75%. The average on the alkaline phosphatase enzyme activity before treatment T0, T1, T2 and T3 95,75; 90,25; 91,50; 75,50 U/I, and after treatment T0, T1, T2, T3 128,10; 128,70; 83,10 and 108,90 U/I. This althought they were not significant deffernt this research showed third the additional curcuma and zn proteinat suplement increased the level of hemoglobin and alkaline phosphatase enzyme activity, but did not effect the level of hematocrit

    Tugas Akhir ditulis berdasarkan serangkaian kegiatan PKL yang dilaksanakan pada tanggal 25 Januari sampai dengan 7 Maret 2016 di PT. Charoen Pokphand Jaya Farm Unit Rembang I, Jawa Tengah. Tujuan dari Praktek Kerja Lapangan ini adalah untuk mengetahui proses pengendalian penyakit yang diterapkan oleh PT. Charoen Pokphand Jaya Farm Unit Rembang I, Jawa Tengah. Manfaat yang diperoleh dari Praktek Kerja Lapangan ini adalah menambah ilmu pengetahuan dan dapat mengetahui proses pengendalian penyakit secara baik. Metode yang digunakan pada saat Praktek Kerja Lapangan (PKL) adalah metode partisipatif aktif, yaitu mengikuti seluruh aktivitas kegiatan PT. Charoen Pokphand Jaya Farm Unit Rembang I, Jawa Tengah. Dalam penyusunan laporan dibutuhkan data. Data yang dikumpulkan berupa data primer dan sekunder. Data primer diperoleh dari hasil observasi dan wawancara dengan pihak terkait seperti manager, suvervisior dan seluruh karyawan. Hasil Praktek Kerja Lapangan menunjukkan bahwa di PT. Charoen Pokphand Jaya Farm Unit Rembang I, Jawa Tengah sistem perkandangan yang digunakan yaitu sistem closed house dengan sitem pemeliharaan all in all out. Penerapan program pengendalian penyakit oleh PT. Charoen Pokphand Jaya Farm Unit Rembang I meliputi biosecurity, vaksinasi dan pemberian vitamin/obat telah berjalan dengan baik di karena tidak adanya ditemukan penyakit yang sangat berbahaya menyerang ternak hingga merugikan peternakan.
