A possible new phase of antagonistic nematogens in a disorienting field

A simple model is proposed for nematogenic molecules that favor perpendicular orientations as well as parallel ones. (Charged rods, for example, show this antagonistic tendency.) When a small disorienting field is applied along $z$, a low density phase $N_-$ of nematic order parameter $S_z<0$ coexists with a dense biaxial nematic $N_b$. (At zero field, $N_-$ becomes isotropic and $N_b$ uniaxial.) But at stronger fields, a new phase $N_{+4}$, invariant under $\pi/2$ rotations around the field axis, appears in between $N_-$ and $N_b$. Prospects for finding the $N_{+4}$ phase experimentally are briefly discussed.Comment: 4 pages, 2 figures. Accepted for publication in PR

It has done with the help of measuring a parameter of acid-alkaline activity of water, situating in the various form vessels. Finding the right fit: Enhancing the academic-industry link in the sector for Nutrition undergraduates – a pilot study

Academic learning experience prepares students for professional life, enriches their scientific-evidence knowledge, whereas laboratory practicals upskill their experiences applying theory into “real world” scenarios. As most undergraduate programmes are not offering placement year, students rely heavily on their initiatives and networking to maximise their continuous professional development (CPD). This study evaluated the supporting mechanisms between academia and industry/ sector and examined staff and students’ perceptions of existing academia-industry collaborations. An online survey was designed to record perceptions of undergraduate’s nutrition students. This was followed by focus groups to establish students’ perceptions of the relevant professional organisations and their related experiences outside academia. Captured students’ feedback together with the nutrition teaching academics responses in individual semi-structured interviews have portrayed the current academic-industry links, the perceived challenges/barriers and probed sensible roadmap. Six themes uncovered the need for extra nutrition-related work experiences, while the students’ perceptions reflected their learning through course progression, awareness of external opportunities and underpinned that graduate readiness improved progressively with years spent in study. The Academics’ interviews recognized the limited academic-industry collaborations and underpinned many barriers faced; more “top-down” support was identified as a strategy to enhance external links. The study provides a clear lens into the present academic-industry links within the nutrition programmes and ascertained the perceived challenges experienced by students and academics. Collaborations and centralised university communications shall promote a better university experience. Equally, staff-student partnerships will facilitate a new approach to understand both staff and students’ perspectives and enhance learning experiences within the sector

Improving organizational communication: Hotel Haikko Manor & Spa

This is a research-oriented thesis for Hotel Haikko Manor & Spa that is located in Porvoo. The hotel occupies a niche of exceptionally versatile holiday and business hotel in Finland. Mercuri International and VIA Group awarded the manor with the title of Finland’s best business hotel ten times. Communication is an important part of the organizational life and has a huge impact on the individuals and groups. The effective communication is needed at all stages of the working process and in all parts of the organization to achieve its goals. The thesis investigates forcefulness of the organizational communication in the hotel. The core idea of the study is to underline the importance of well-organized communication process in Haikko Manor & Spa. The theoretical framework concerning the organizational communication concepts, the features and the essence was structured and applied for creating the research questions and their further analyzing. At the planning stage of the questionnaire design process, the author detected a significant need to focus on the internal communication in the hotel. Therefore, the survey questions aimed at identifying and examining possible gaps in the internal communication process among the employees and their superiors. In order to understand the values and the perceptions that emphasize and influence decision-making behavior, the primary data was collected by using the combination of qualitative and quantitative research methodologies. The survey results were further analyzed by using Webropol software tool. The survey findings pointed out the most important issues and aspects for the future commissioner’s development. Such as employee engagement, feedback system and interpersonal communication between the managers and their subordinates.All the research findings and the proposals for improvement were summarised in the recommendation part of this thesis
