We report the first genome-wide association study of a joint analysis using 795 Han Chinese individuals with treatment-refractory schizophrenia (TRS) and 806 controls. Three loci showed suggestive significant association with TRS were identified. These loci include: rs10218843 (P = 3.04×10−7) and rs11265461 (P = 1.94×10−7) are adjacent to signaling lymphocytic activation molecule family member 1 (SLAMF1); rs4699030 (P = 1.94×10−6) and rs230529 (P = 1.74×10−7) are located in the gene nuclear factor of kappa light polypeptide gene enhancer in B-cells 1 (NFKB1); and rs13049286 (P = 3.05×10−5) and rs3827219 (P = 1.66×10−5) fall in receptor-interacting serine/threonine-protein kinase 4 (RIPK4). One isolated single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP), rs739617 (P = 3.87×10−5) was also identified to be associated with TRS. The -94delATTG allele (rs28362691) located in the promoter region of NFKB1 was identified by resequencing and was found to associate with TRS (P = 4.85×10−6). The promoter assay demonstrated that the -94delATTG allele had a significant lower promoter activity than the -94insATTG allele in the SH-SY5Y cells. This study suggests that rs28362691 in NFKB1 might be involved in the development of TRS

Potential of Core-Collapse Supernova Neutrino Detection at JUNO

    Get PDF
JUNO is an underground neutrino observatory under construction in Jiangmen, China. It uses 20kton liquid scintillator as target, which enables it to detect supernova burst neutrinos of a large statistics for the next galactic core-collapse supernova (CCSN) and also pre-supernova neutrinos from the nearby CCSN progenitors. All flavors of supernova burst neutrinos can be detected by JUNO via several interaction channels, including inverse beta decay, elastic scattering on electron and proton, interactions on C12 nuclei, etc. This retains the possibility for JUNO to reconstruct the energy spectra of supernova burst neutrinos of all flavors. The real time monitoring systems based on FPGA and DAQ are under development in JUNO, which allow prompt alert and trigger-less data acquisition of CCSN events. The alert performances of both monitoring systems have been thoroughly studied using simulations. Moreover, once a CCSN is tagged, the system can give fast characterizations, such as directionality and light curve

Detection of the Diffuse Supernova Neutrino Background with JUNO

As an underground multi-purpose neutrino detector with 20 kton liquid scintillator, Jiangmen Underground Neutrino Observatory (JUNO) is competitive with and complementary to the water-Cherenkov detectors on the search for the diffuse supernova neutrino background (DSNB). Typical supernova models predict 2-4 events per year within the optimal observation window in the JUNO detector. The dominant background is from the neutral-current (NC) interaction of atmospheric neutrinos with 12C nuclei, which surpasses the DSNB by more than one order of magnitude. We evaluated the systematic uncertainty of NC background from the spread of a variety of data-driven models and further developed a method to determine NC background within 15\% with {\it{in}} {\it{situ}} measurements after ten years of running. Besides, the NC-like backgrounds can be effectively suppressed by the intrinsic pulse-shape discrimination (PSD) capabilities of liquid scintillators. In this talk, I will present in detail the improvements on NC background uncertainty evaluation, PSD discriminator development, and finally, the potential of DSNB sensitivity in JUNO

Simulation Studies on Supernova Neutrino Detections in JUNO

<p>Supernova(SN) 1987A was the first detected neutrino burst in neutrino experiment. The Jiangmen Underground Neutrino Observatory(JUNO) is an upcoming large liquid scintillator detector experiment with an expected 3% energy resolution at 1 MeV and abundant light yield. These properties make JUNO a powerful SN neutrino detector. In this poster, we present our simulation studies on SN neutrino event selection efficiencies and purities for different detection channels involving different flavours of SN neutrinos. We demonstrate that pulse shape discrimination (PSD) technique is effective in JUNO detector for separating different SN neutrino detection channels.</p

Laparoscopic Radical Cystectomy Combined with Bilateral Nephroureterectomy and Specimen Extraction Through the Vagina

Radical cystectomy is the gold standard for muscle-invasive urothelial carcinoma of the bladder because this operation provides excellent local cancer control. Laparoscopic radical cystectomy with different urinary diversions has been reported since 1992 and proposed as an alternative to open radical cystectomy. However, the reconstruction part of the operation is time-consuming and challenging. For a patient already under dialysis, concomitant radical cystectomy with bilateral nephroureterectomy could obviate the need to create urinary diversion and treat upper urinary tract tumors at the same time. Generally the specimen has to be removed through a mini-laparotomy. But for female patients, specimen extraction through the vagina has been reported to be safe and efficient. Thus, patients with multiple comorbidities can benefit from the avoidance of mini-laparotomy. Herein, we present a 65-year-old female with invasive urothelial carcinoma of the urinary bladder and end-stage renal disease who underwent laparoscopic radical cystectomy combined with bilateral nephroureterectomy, where the specimen was extracted transvaginally

    Quality-Aware SCTP in Wireless Networks

SCTP (Stream control transmission protocol) is a new transport layer protocol that was published as RFC2960 by IETF (the Internet Engineering Task Force) in October 2000 and amended in RFC4960 in September 2007. SCTP provides reliable ordered and unordered transport services. The congestion control and flow control mechanisms for SCTP are very similar to those for TCP (transmission control protocol). SCTP can apply more than one IP address when establishing associations. SCTP multihoming can support multiple paths in association. These features provide SCTP with some network-level fault tolerance through network address redundancy. SCTP multihoming has tremendous transmission potential. However, SCTP path management is very simple in RFC4960 and therefore cannot effectively distinguish path conditions; it also has no path switch strategy appropriate for wireless networking. These factors all degrade SCTP performance. This study proposes a new path management (quality-aware SCTP) for wireless networks; this includes a new path failure detection method and ICE (idle path congestion window size estimation) mechanism. An experiment using NS2 was performed, showing that quality-aware SCTP can effectively improve the network performance. Quality-aware SCTP is simple and provides a more effective performance than SCTP alone

An Integrated Syndromic Surveillance System for Monitoring Scarlet Fever in Taiwan

    Get PDF
In 2011, Hong Kong, being so close geographically to Taiwan, had encountered an outbreak of scarlet fever. In response, Taiwan Centers for Disease Control developed a timely integrated syndromic surveillance system using daily updated data from National Health Insurance (scarlet fever ICD-9-CM code 034.1) and death certifications (cause of death text mining with keywords "scarlet fever", "group A streptococcus" or "toxic shock syndrome") since July 2011. Interagency collaborations add values to existing health data in the government and have strengthened the capacity of disease surveillance in Taiwan
