    Trust Based Participant Driven Privacy Control in Participatory Sensing

    Widespread use of sensors and multisensory personal devices generate a lot of personal information. Sharing this information with others could help in various ways. However, this information may be misused when shared with all. Sharing of information between trusted parties overcomes this problem. This paper describes a model to share information based on interactions and opinions to build trust among peers. It also considers institutional and other controls, which influence the behaviour of the peers. The trust and control build confidence. The computed confidence bespeaks whether to reveal information or not thereby increasing trusted cooperation among peers.Comment: 14 page

    Universality of the collapse transition of sticky polymers

    The universality of the swelling of the radius of gyration of a homopolymer relative to its value in the θ\theta state, independent of polymer-solvent chemistry, in the crossover regime between θ\theta and athermal solvent conditions, is well known. Here we study, by Brownian dynamics, a polymer model where a subset of monomers is labelled as "stickers". The mutual interaction of the stickers is more attractive than those of the other ("backbone") monomers, and has the additional important characteristic of "functionality" φ\varphi, i.e., the maximum number of stickers that can locally bind to a given sticker. A saturated bond formed in this manner remains bound until it breaks due to thermal fluctuations, a requirement which can be viewed as an additional Boolean degree of freedom that describes the bonding. This, in turn, makes the question of the order of the collapse transition a non-trivial one. Nevertheless, for the parameters that we have studied (in particular, φ=1\varphi=1), we find a standard second-order θ\theta collapse, using a renormalised solvent quality parameter that takes into account the increased average attraction due to the presence of stickers. We examine the swelling of the radius of gyration of such a sticky polymer relative to its value in the altered θ\theta state, using a novel potential to model the various excluded volume interactions that occur between the monomers on the chain. We find that the swelling of such sticky polymers is identical to the universal swelling of homopolymers in the thermal crossover regime.     Thermoluminescence, optical absorption and ESR studies in (KCl)1-x(KBr)x mixed alkali halide crystals doped with gold

    Mixed crystals of KCl–KBr of different compositions were grown with Czochralski technique. Crystals were doped with gold. Both the undoped and gold doped crystals were γ γ -irradiated using 60 Co 60 Co source. All the irradiated samples were subjected to thermoluminescence, optical absorption and ESR studies. The present study shows the composition dependence of the parameters and enhancement in the luminescence intensity as well as the absorption coefficient with gold doping. Non-linear variation of color center peak position and half band width of F-center with composition has been observed. The results of the above studies are presented in this paper

    A new parallel algorithm for lagrange interpolation on a hypercube

    AbstractWe present a new parallel algorithm for computing N point lagrange interpolation on an n-dimensional hypercube with total number of nodes p = 2n. Initially, we consider the case when N = p. The algorithm is extended to the case when only p (p fixed) processors are available, p < N. We assume that N is exactly divisible by p. By dividing the hypercube into subcubes of dimension two, we compute the products and sums appearing in Lagrange's formula in a novel way such that wasteful repetitions of forming products are avoided. The speed up and efficiency of our algorithm is calculated both theoretically and by simulating it over a network of PCs

    Mechanisms of Cellular Senescence: Cell Cycle Arrest and Senescence Associated Secretory Phenotype

    Cellular senescence is a stable cell cycle arrest that can be triggered in normal cells in response to various intrinsic and extrinsic stimuli, as well as developmental signals. Senescence is considered to be a highly dynamic, multi-step process, during which the properties of senescent cells continuously evolve and diversify in a context dependent manner. It is associated with multiple cellular and molecular changes and distinct phenotypic alterations, including a stable proliferation arrest unresponsive to mitogenic stimuli. Senescent cells remain viable, have alterations in metabolic activity and undergo dramatic changes in gene expression and develop a complex senescence-associated secretory phenotype. Cellular senescence can compromise tissue repair and regeneration, thereby contributing toward aging. Removal of senescent cells can attenuate age-related tissue dysfunction and extend health span. Senescence can also act as a potent anti-tumor mechanism, by preventing proliferation of potentially cancerous cells. It is a cellular program which acts as a double-edged sword, with both beneficial and detrimental effects on the health of the organism, and considered to be an example of evolutionary antagonistic pleiotropy. Activation of the p53/p21WAF1/CIP1 and p16INK4A/pRB tumor suppressor pathways play a central role in regulating senescence. Several other pathways have recently been implicated in mediating senescence and the senescent phenotype. Herein we review the molecular mechanisms that underlie cellular senescence and the senescence associated growth arrest with a particular focus on why cells stop dividing, the stability of the growth arrest, the hypersecretory phenotype and how the different pathways are all integrated

    A new species from Genus Megachile Subgenus Callomegachile (Hymenoptera, Megachilidae) from Chandigarh and Punjab plains

    A new species Megachile pseudodisjuncta of the bee is being reported from Genus Megachile and Subgenus Callomegachile. It bears a close resemblance to M. disjuncta from which it has been distinguished on the basis of certain morphological characters and genitalia. Megachilid bees bear utmost significance because they are very good pollinators of both cultivated and wild fauna. Consequently, their taxonomic identification and conservation are very crucial. The detailed taxonomically important morphological characters of both the species were studied and photographed. Male sternum and genitalia were studied microscopically and photographed. The material examined and floral associations have also been presented in the paper
