    Adana ilindeki çeşitli hastanelerin yoğun bakım ünitelerinde çalışan hemşirelerin ötanazi hakkındaki düşünceleri

Opinions of nurses are important in developing political measure about euthanasia because this group are the primary care-takers in hospitals. Our study has been carried out to determine the opinions of nurses working in intensive care units (ICU) of the several hospitals in Adana. This descriptive study was performed on 186 nurses working in the ICUs of Balcalı Hospital of Çukurova University Faculty of Medicine, Adana Numune Training and Research Hospital of Turkish Ministry of Health and, Adana Research and Practice Hospital of Başkent University. After getting permissions from the hospitel managements, a questionnaire, questioning socio-demografic characteristics, knowledge and opinions about the euthanasia was given to nurses who accepted to join the study. The mean age of the nurses who 26.9 +- 3.9, 73.7% of them had graduated from vocationals schools, and themean duration of professional experience was 6.6 +- 5.1. Of all the nurses, 50.0% were married, 44.6% working at the ICU of internal medicine; 55.9% thought that euthanasia was the right of a patient as a human being, and 24.8% of them would ask for euthanasia if they were bedridden. Legal euthanasia in Turkey was not supported by 39.8% of the nurses, and there were more nurses supporting the legality of euthanasia (both active and passive) at the Balcali Hospital (a state university hospital). In case it becomes legal, 63.4% of the nurses think that euthanasia should be practiced by a team that determined by law, 81.7% would not want to take part in an euthanasia practice, 81.2% think that it could be exploited by people.of all the nurses 44.1% believe that euthanasia is being practiced in some conditions in our country. It was seen that nurses working in at ICU's support passive euthanasia rather than active euthanasia. The findings can be used in education of nurses for equipping them for more professional nursing care to the patients declaring their will to euthanasia.Ötanazi; tıbbın elinde bulundurduğu olanaklarla iyileştiremediği ve nitelikli bir yaşam da sağlayamadığı hastaların yaşamlarının, içinde bulundukları belli koşullarda ve biçimde sona erdirilmesi olarak tanımlanmaktadır. Bireye hizmet veren hemşirelerin ötanazi konusundaki düşünceleri bu konuda geliştirilecek politikaların oluşturulmasında önemlidir. Çalışmamız Adana ilinde çeşitli hastanelerin yoğun bakım ünitelerinde görev yapan hemşirelerin ötanazi uygulamaları hakkındaki düşüncelerinin belirlenmesi amacı ile gerçekleştirilmiştir. Tanımlayıcı olarak planlanan araştırmamız Çukurova Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi Balcalı Hastanesi, T.C. Sağlık Bakanlığı Adana Numune Eğitim ve Araştırma Hastanesi ile Başkent Üniversitesi Adana Uygulama ve Araştırma Hastanelerinin yoğun bakım ünitelerinde görev yapan ve hemşirelerin sosyo-demografik özelliklerini, ötanazi hakkındaki bilgi ve düşüncelerini belirlemeye yönelik sorulardan oluşan anket formunu doldurmayı kabul eden 186 hemşireye, hastane yönetimlerinden izin alındıktan sonra Ekim 2003-Şubat 2004 tarihleri arasında uygulanmıştır. Araştırmaya katılan hemşirelerin yaş ortalaması 26.9+-3.9 olup, %73.7'sinin SML/Ön Lisans mezunu olduğu, çalışma yılı ortalamasının 6.6+-5.1 olduğu, %50.0'ının evli olduğu, %44.6'sının dahiliye yoğun bakım ünitelerinde çalıştığı, %55.9'unun ötanazinin insan/ hasta hakkı olduğunu düşündüğü, yatağa bağımlı olsalar kendileri için ötanazi isteme oranının %24.8 olduğu, %39.8'inin ötanazinin Türkiye'de yasallaşmasına karşı olduğu, Balcalı Hastanesinde çalışanların diğer hastanelere göre aktif, pasif ötanaziyi ve ülkemizde yasallaşmasını daha çok destekledikleri saptanmıştır. Yasallaşması durumunda ise %63.4'ünün ötanaziyi yasaların belirlediği bir ekibin yapması gerektiğini düşündüğü, %81.7'sinin uygulamada yer almak istemediği, %81.2'sinin istismar edileceğini, %44.1'inin ülkemizde belirli durumlarda ötanazinin uygulandığını düşündükleri saptanmıştır. Bu çalışmanın sonunda, genel olarak yoğun bakım ünitelerinde çalışan hemşirelerin pasif ötanaziyi aktif ötanaziye göre daha çok desteklediği görülmüştür. Sonuçlar hemşirelerin ötanazi talebi ile karşılaştıklarında daha profesyonel hemşirelik bakımı vermeleri amacı ile eğitimde kullanılacaktır.Bu çalışma Ç.Ü.     Loneliness and Social Support Level of Elderly People Living in Nursing Homes

    Introduction: This study aims at identifying loneliness and social support level of elderly people living in nursing homes. Materials and Method: The population of this descriptive and cross-sectional study consists of elder people who was living in Adana Nursing Home and 70 elderly people who were applied “Standardized Mini Mental Test” and were found to normal cognitive functions as a result of the test were included in the study in line with their will. In data collection, “Personal Information Form” was used for socio-demographic features of elderly people, “Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS)” for evaluation of social support status of elderly people and “UCLA-Loneliness Scale” for identifying their loneliness level. Independent-Samples T, ANOVA, Tukey and Pearson correlation coefficiency methods were used in data analysis. Statistical significance were recognized as p<0.05. Results: The average age of the participants was 72.76±8.68, 77.1% of males and 65.7% females stated their reason for staying in the institution was loneliness. The average score for UCLA loneliness scale was 41.74±11.52. The average score for MSPSS was 47.43±20.26. A weak correlation was found between MSPSS and UCLA-loneliness scale in negative direction (p <0,05). Conclusion: It was found that majority of elderly people who participated in the study and live in the nursing home stay there due to their loneliness, they feel a medium level of loneliness, they have good level of social support and as the social support increase their loneliness decrease
