The study assessed the benefits of national fadama III agricultural project among participants through her activities in bayelsa state. Objective one (1) assessed the benefits of National Fadama III agricultural project through her activities, while objective two (2) Identified problems encountered by the participants in the cause of participation in the study area. Purposive sampling technique was used to select 150 farmers that participated, and 150 staff from the delivery agency. Data were collected with a structured questionnaire. Both objectives were analyzed using descriptive statistics such as frequency count, percentage, and mean (X Ì…). The finding showed that Farmers did not benefit commendably from Fadama III Project. No access to Fadama project personnel's when the need arise, lack of fund, non-regular training, poor communication channel and delays in being attended to by the delivery agency were the top constraints faced by farmers in National Fadama III Project. The study therefore recommended that National Fadama III Project should be properly funded and its activities should be reorganized to be of great benefit to the farmers, the study recommends that proper training in all the activities should be made available for effective participation, empower the participants to improve their income level, and to move them away from poverty by improving their standard of living

WEB-Folio: INTASC Principles to Danielson\u27s Framework

Based upon the need for assessment of teachers, both pre-service and in-service, Columbus State University (Ohio) is in the process of modifying all education courses to include reference to and use of Danielson Framework linked to current structure, which used INTASC (Interstate New Teacher Assessment and Support Consortium) Principles. Adaptation of standards for assessment to better address the assessment parameters of Danielson\u27s Framework is being done through a visual presentation. By using Inspiration to design the flow chart, and also construction of a WEB-Folio template, they are better able to show how it may serve as the assessment tool. The timeline began with inclusion of INTASC Principles during the NCATE review and has continues to be a primary tool for student teacher observation. As the University adapts to the use of the Framework, in preparation for utilization in fall 2001, courses are being modified, students are being acquainted with the domains, and a phase-in plan is being developed that allows for adjustment and absorption by both faculty and students. This paper deals with the adaptation, the basic frameworks domains, and how the final WEB-Folio was designed to work in this assessment

The concentrations of natural radionuclides, namely 40K, 238U and 232Th, in the surface soils around the coastal lands of Lagos, were measured using a highly sensitive γ-ray spectrometric system coupled to a computerized ACCUSPEC multichannel analyzer system. 146 samples from 22 different locations were analyzed and the mean radioactivity concentrations obtained were (0.2293 ± 0.0277), (0.0200 ± 0.0054) and (0.0524 ± 0.0042) KBqkg-1 for 40K, 238U and 232Th respectively. The mean absorbed dose rate, the mean annual effective dose equivalent and the collective effective dose equivalent for these coastal areas were assessed to be (52.23 ± 0.124) nGyh-1, 64.055 µSvy-I and 1.8468 x 102 man.Sv.y-1 respectively. Exposure to these low doses, over a long period of time, can constitute health hazard, especially inside dwellings where sand taken from these areas are used as building materials. Enhanced electroscalpel incisional wound healing potential of honey in wistar rats

Electrosurgery reduces surgical bleeding, and delayed wound healing. This study evaluated comparative incisional wound healing potential of honey in wound created with electroscalpel and cold scalpel. The study used twelve (12) adult male albino rats (130 ± 20 g), randomly grouped into Electro-cautery (n = 6) and Cold scalpel (n = 6). Each rat had three full thickness (6 mm diameter) skin wounds (a, b and c) created on its dorsum with either Electroscalpel (ES) or Cold blade scalpel (CS), and treated topically with Silver sulphadiazine (SSD, wound a), untreated (control, wound b) and Bee honey (H, wound c). The wounds were evaluated for gross (exudation, edema, hyperemia, contraction), histologic (granulation, angiogenesis, fibroplasia, epithelialization) and immunologic healing indices using standard techniques. Data were analyzed with Chi-square, Two-way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and Duncan Multiple Range tests (DMRT) at α = 0.05. Wound hyperemia and edge edema were prominent in the ES group from day 4 to 6 (P = .000). Percentage wound contraction was higher in the CS than ES group from days 5 to 7 (P = .006) and in the CS treated with honey than ES treated with honey from days 7 to 14 (P = .000). Granulation tissue reduced in ES group treated with SSD than in honey and control wounds. Fibroelastic tissue increased in SSD and honey treated wounds of ES group, and higher in honey treated wounds of CS group (P < .05). Fibroplasia was sustained in honey and SSD treated wounds than control. Honey can be applied to electroscalpel surgical wound to facilitate rapid healing during surgical management of tumours having vascular network.
