The article introduces three models describing parallel searching of multiple resources: a model unifying user interface, a model with centralized search engine, and a model based on a preharvested central index. The aim is to provide factual basis for proposals of Czech terminology in this type of information retrieval

The presentation accompanying the talk on the IKI 2012 conference. The talk presented the preliminary outputs of a research project conducted on Higher Professional School of Information Services (VOŠIS) in Prague during the winter school term in 2011/2012. The research goal was to use methods of quantitative analysis in order to discover new knowledge and issues, hidden within the stored user data (i. e. search logs) about retrieval in Czech Explanatory Terminological Database of Library and Information Science (TDKIV)

    Ontology of knowledge organization

The aim of the research documented in the thesis was to design an ontology for the knowledge organization domain. Three requirements specifying areas of ontology use have been identified: making of statements for a knowledge base for knowledge organization, indexing of resources in the domain and interlinking with content-relevant ontologies. The design was elaborated by the method of reengineering the first version of ontology, created in the framework of the NAKI research project Knowledge base for subject area of knowledge organization in 2013-2015. The second version of ontology is based on the DOLCE foundational ontology, specifically on the reusing of its selected classes and predicates, including the axioms associated with them. The reengineering of the content of the first version of ontology was done by the domain and facet analysis methodology. The outcome is divided in two interlinked modules - axiomatized heavy- weight core ontology and light-weight terminological ontology. The ontology offers a solution to the compatibility of Czech and world terminology, it applies an extended concept of domain beyond the scope of memory institutions, and it presents a partial contribution to the development of the theory of knowledge organization. Byly stanoveny tři požadavky specifikující oblasti užití ontologie: tvorba výroků pro znalostní bázi organizace znalostí, indexace zdrojů v doméně a propojení s věcně relevantními ontologiemi. Ontologie nabízí řešení kompatibility české a světové oborové terminologie, uplatňuje rozšířené pojetí domény přesahující hranice paměťových institucí a je dílčím příspěvkem k rozvoji teorie oboru organizace znalostí. Obsah práce je členěn do pěti kapitol. V první kapitole je podán přehled současného stavu teorie a praxe informatických ontologií, založený na literárním průzkumu. Druhá kapitola charakterizuje metody, využité k návrhu první i druhé verze ontologie organizace...Institute of Information Studies and LibrarianshipÚstav informačních studií a knihovnictvíFilozofická fakultaFaculty of Art

The article consists of two main parts. The first part reviews the state-of-the-art in ontological engineering methodology and offers a typology of methodologies. In the second part we present seven particular methodologies, chosen with aim to show various approaches to ontology design. The description of methodologies has a uniform structure to allow comparability. We concentrate on identifying core processes and their relationships within given methodologies

The study responds to the new paradigms of knowledge organization in the 21st century, trying to assess whether the current Czech terminology is still corresponding to it. We analyze and review Czech equivalents to the terms: knowledge organization, subject access, classification, subject headings, and indexing language (subject, systematic). The respective terms were introduced to the Czech terminology primarily due to Blahoslav Kovář during the 1970s. Early in 2000s they have been incorporated into the Czech terminology database of library and information science (TDKIV). Our analysis is based on the study of the theoretical literature focused at conceptual and terminological principles of the field. The methodology is based on modeling; we provide a comparison of Kovář's process model with our own proposal of an updated model of knowledge organization, adapted to the changed paradigm. Kovář's model sees knowledge organization as a sub-process of input and output processing phase within the framework of linear communication in the information system. The proposed updated model presents an extended concept of knowledge organization as a process carried on during several stages of the information lifecycle, in the information system and beyond, within the context of non-linear network environment
