    Securing Internet Protocol (IP) Storage: A Case Study

    Storage networking technology has enjoyed strong growth in recent years, but security concerns and threats facing networked data have grown equally fast. Today, there are many potential threats that are targeted at storage networks, including data modification, destruction and theft, DoS attacks, malware, hardware theft and unauthorized access, among others.     Self-tuning of threshold for a two-state system

    A two-state system (TSS) under time-periodic perturbations (to be regarded as input signals) is studied in connection with self-tuning (ST) of threshold and stochastic resonance (SR). By ST, we observe the improvement of signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) in a weak noise region. Analytic approach to a tuning equation reveals that SNR improvement is possible also for a large noise region and this is demonstrated by Monte Carlo simulations of hopping processes in a TSS. ST and SR are discussed from a little more physical point of energy transfer (dissipation) rate, which behaves in a similar way as SNR. Finally ST is considered briefly for a double-well potential system (DWPS), which is closely related to the TSS

    An Experimental Investigation of Performance and Emission in Ethanol Fuelled Direct Injection Internal Combustion Engines with Zirconia Coating

    This article presents the experimental investigation of use of neat ethanol (95% Ethanol +5% water) as a fuel in a four stroke single cylinder engine as regards to performance and emission characteristics. Two different ignition modes viz. (i) High Compression (16.5:1) Spark Ignition with high-pressure manifold injection of ethanol and (ii) Ultra High Compression (44.4:1) Compress Ignition with Direct Injection of ethanol have been experimentally analyzed with and without zirconia surface coating. As a benchmark, the results have been compared with data from the same engine run with diesel as fuel. In the first mode, the brake thermal efficiency with ethanol as fuel was found almost equal to that of diesel. However, the emissions were found to be significantly lower. In the second mode, the brake thermal efficiency was found to fall in between the diesel and ethanol manifold injection modes of operation. More significantly, the cost of running the engine was found to be lower than the operating cost incurred by using diesel. This assumes importance in the wake that ethanol can be obtained from non-fossil resources

    Gouty Arthritis has now become a common disease condition which we deal in Ayurveda, but a proper treatment protocol is not followed in many cases. The case reported here was as a result of improper diet and lack of exercise which resulted in an increase serum uric acid level and joint inflammation. The treatment was given at IPD level diagnosing it as Gambhira Vatarakta with valid Chikitsa Siddhanta. This case report provides us guidelines that even a chronic gouty arthritis with a very high serum uric acid can be treated as per Vataraktha Chikitsa Siddhanta in Ayurveda

India is one of the countries with rich traditional knowledge base. Its ethnic ethno-medical practices had paved way for the evolution of several indigenous systems of medicine. Siddha is one of the oldest systems of medicine in India. Siddha holds close association with nature and has been validated in the laboratory of life, even before the advent of formal modern western system of medicine. This paper discusses the interrelations between usage of Sidhha as complementary alternative medicine and its implications on public health care related issues.     Phase separation and the effect of quenched disorder in Pr0.5Sr0.5MnO3Pr_{0.5}Sr_{0.5}MnO_3

    The nature of phase separation in Pr0.5Sr0.5MnO3Pr_{0.5}Sr_{0.5}MnO_3 has been probed by linear as well as nonlinear magnetic susceptibilities and resistivity measurements across the 2nd order paramagnetic to ferromagnetic transition (TCT_C) and 1st order ferromagnetic to antiferromagnetic transition (TNT_N). We found that the ferromagnetic (metallic) clusters, which form with the onset of long-range order in the system at TCT_C, continuously decrease their size with the decrease in temperature and coexist with non-ferromagnetic (insulating) clusters. These non-ferromagnetic clusters are identified to be antiferromagnetic. Significantly, it is shown that they do not arise because of the superheating effect of the lower temperature 1st order transition. Thus reveals unique phase coexistence in a manganite around half-doping encompassing two long-range order transitions. Both the ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic clusters form at TCT_C and persist much below TNT_N. Substitution of quenched disorder (Ga) at Mn-site promotes antiferromagnetism at the cost of ferromagnetism without adding any magnetic interaction or introducing any significant lattice distortion. Moreover, increase in disorder decreases the ferromagnetic cluster size and with 7.5% Ga substitution clusters size reduces to the single domain limit. Yet, all the samples show significant short-range ferromagnetic interaction much above TCT_C. Resistivity measurements also reveal the novel phase coexistence identified from the magnetic measurements. It is significant that, increase in disorder up to 7.5% increases the resistivity of the low temperature antiferromagnetic phase by about four orders
