Web Caching and Prefetching with Cyclic Model Analysis of Web Object Sequences

    Get PDF
Web caching is the process in which web objects are temporarily stored to reduce bandwidth consumption, server load and latency. Web prefetching is the process of fetching web objects from the server before they are actually requested by the client. Integration of caching and prefetching can be very beneficial as the two techniques can support each other. By implementing this integrated scheme in a client-side proxy, the perceived latency can be reduced for not one but many users. In this paper, we propose a new integrated caching and prefetching policy called the WCP-CMA which makes use of a profit-driven caching policy that takes into account the periodicity and cyclic behaviour of the web access sequences for deriving prefetching rules. Our experimental results have shown a 10%-15% increase in the hit ratios of the cached objects and 5%-10% decrease in delay compared to the existing schem

Automatic Discovery and Ranking of Synonyms for Search Keywords in the Web

Search engines are an indispensable part of a web user's life. A vast majority of these web users experience difficulties caused by the keyword-based search engines such as inaccurate results for queries and irrelevant URLs even though the given keyword is present in them. Also, relevant URLs may be lost as they may have the synonym of the keyword and not the original one. This condition is known as the polysemy problem. To alleviate these problems, we propose an algorithm called automatic discovery and ranking of synonyms for search keywords in the web (ADRS). The proposed method generates a list of candidate synonyms for individual keywords by employing the relevance factor of the URLs associated with the synonyms. Then, ranking of these candidate synonyms is done using co-occurrence frequencies and various page count-based measures. One of the major advantages of our algorithm is that it is highly scalable which makes it applicable to online data on the dynamic, domain-independent and unstructured World Wide Web. The experimental results show that the best results are obtained using the proposed algorithm with WebJaccard

CHARACTERIZATION OF ALPHA-AMYLASE FROM THE SEEDS OF Mucuna pruriens

Amylases are hydrolytic enzymes which are widely distributed in nature, animals, plants and microorganisms. Amylases are of great significance in present-day biotechnology. In present study, amylases are isolated from the soaked seeds of Mucuna pruriens under extreme acidic conditions. Conventional protein purification techniques such as salt fractionation, ion exchange chromatography on CM-cellulose and sephadex G-75 was employed for the purification of amylase from the seeds of Mucuna pruriens. The amylase activity was eluted in one peak. The specific activity and yield of the purified amylase was 6.25 and 29.99, respectively. Native PAGE, SDS-PAGE and gel electrofocussing were employed to establish homogeneity of the purified amylase. SDS-PAGE and gel-filtration chromatography on sephadex G-75 was used to determine the molecular weight of the purified amylase. The purified amylase was nearly homogenous and its molecular weight was found to be 78.4 kDa. The optimum pH and temperature of the purified amylase were 7.0 and 50oC, respectively. The isolectric pH of the purified amylase was 7.2 and the activity was linear up to 60 minutes

Design and analysis of truck body for increasing the payload capacity

    Get PDF
Truck industry is a major source of transportation in India. With an average truck travelling about 300 kilometers per day [1], every kilogram of truck weight is of concern to the industry in order to get the best out of the truck. The main objective of this project is to increase the payload capacity of automotive truck body. Every kilogram of increased vehicle weight will decrease the vehicle payload capacity in turn increasing the manufacturing cost and reducing the fuel economy by increase the fuel consumption. With the intension of weight reduction, standard truck body has been designed and analyzed in ANSYS software. C-cross section beams were used instead of conventional rectangular box sections to reduce the weight of the body. Light-weight Aluminum alloy Al 6061 T6 is used to increase the payload capacity. The strength of the Truck platform is monitored in terms of deformation and stress concentration

Steganalysis of YASS using Huffman Length statistics

    Get PDF
This work proposes two main contributions to statistical steganalysis of Yet Another Steganographic Scheme (YASS) in JPEG images. Firstly, this work presents a reliable blind steganalysis technique to predict YASS which is one of recent and least statistically detectable embedding scheme using only five features, four Huffman length statistics (H) and the ratio of file size to resolution (FR Index). Secondly these features are shown to be unique, accurate and monotonic over a wide range of settings for YASS and several supervised classifiers with the accuracy of prediction superior to most blind steganalyzers in vogue. Overall, the proposed model having Huffman Length Statistics as its linchpin predicts YASS with an average accuracy of over 94 percent

    The double pendulum

Policy discourses posit an accountability deficit as an underlying cause of a “learning crisis” in many low-income countries. Many studies understand this perceived deficit from a principal-agent perspective, arguing that incentives facing teachers and schools often do not align to the interests of parents and students. Such perspectives underlie many randomized controlled trials, which associate interventions with outcomes, but which also produce varying or inconsistent results across contexts. This paper seeks to study the accountability of schools and teachers more directly, looking at how it varies across public and private schools and how it relates to students’ literacy and numeracy abilities. We report results from a mixed methods study conducted in Mumbai and Kathmandu. Our results show that there are some relationships between accountability and learning outcomes, but these appear to be specific to the context. Quantitative data also show that differences between public and private models of schooling are negligible when students’ social backgrounds and school composition are considered. Qualitative data show that accountability processes create a significant burden on staff time and embed complex power dynamics that are not always productive. Taken together, these results problematize policies that seek to improve learning through “demand-side” approaches such as privatization. They show that the dynamics of accountability are a complex system, like the motion of a “double pendulum,” and therefore simple conceptual approaches such as the principal-agent model are of limited academic and practical utility

Me3Al-mediated domino nucleophilic addition/intramolecular cyclisation of 2-(2-oxo-2-phenylethyl)benzonitriles with amines; a convenient approach for the synthesis of substituted 1-aminoisoquinolines

A simple and efficient protocol for the construction of 1-aminoisoquinolines was achieved by treating 2-(2-oxo-2- phenylethyl)benzonitriles with amines in the presence of Me 3 Al. The reaction proceeds via a domino nucleophilic addition with subsequent intramolecular cyclisation. This method provides a wide variety of substituted 1-aminoisoquinolines with good func- tional group tolerance. Furthermore, the synthetic utility of this protocol was demonstrated in the successful synthesis of the anti- tumor agent CWJ-a-5 in gram scale
