In my research I have investigated the subject of isometric role-playing games of the early 2000s. The fact that the above mentioned subgenre, namely the fantasy isometric role-playing games has started to reappear during the 2010s and by the end of the decade due to the increasing popularity of Kickstarter and its impact on indie game development, the subgenre had partially been able to reclaim its mainstream status, is the starting point of my investigation. In this regard emerges the question: why have this specific subgenre disappeared in the first place? This question is one of the main foci of my article, while additionally, I also argue that what might seem a gap or a discontinuity within the history of the subgenre, should instead be interpreted as a transformation due to the impact of different processes such as the cinematization to the video game industry during this period of time
