The Flexibility and Specialization of Resources - Competitive Strategies of Materials Decoupling Points of a Network Supply Chain of Metallurgic Products

    Get PDF
AbstractThe configuration of the supply chain which realizes the postponed production strategy, requires consideration of the issue of formation of network relations in order to increase the supply potential. The increase in the number of network relations shaped by materials decoupling point of the supply chain can be a consequence of an endeavour to reduce the logistic costs, improvement in the level of the customer service or an increase in innovativeness. In the model presented in the article the authors considered the issue of reducing logistic costs with the established high level of the customer service, taking into account the problem of the flexibility of resources

Simulation modelling of complex distribution systems

AbstractIn many lines of business distribution enterprises take over the burden of synchronization of the demand and supply aspects of the supply chain. Their part increases especially on very dynamic markets, with variable demand and a short product life cycle. Then one of the strategy is to postpone production and shift its last stage from the part of industrial companies to distributional enterprises. The article will discuss the issue of network configuration for the needs of complex realization of non-standard orders. The investigation has been conducted on the basis on enterprises designing interorganizational relations in networks of cooperating enterprises

Configuration of a Supply Chain of Metallurgical Products in the Context of the Cooperation Climate

    Get PDF
Background. Supply chains are becoming more and more complex systems. This results mainly from the development of network relations at individual stages of value adding. The development of relations in supply chains by network relations created at individual stages of the supply chain is an essential dimension of the configuration of the supply chain. Network relations can be both on the level of distribution and production or supply.聽Research aims. The aim of the paper is to propose a methodology for appointing the climate of cooperation and connecting the climate of cooperation with the configuration of a supply chain. The detailed aim resulting from the purposeful selection of the supply chain is to indicate key determinants of the configuration of the supply chain of metallurgical products.聽Methodology. Authors identified determinants of the configuration of the supply chain. Authors defined the climate of cooperation and showed the methodology of appointing him. In supply chains of metallurgical products, a questionnaire with the questionnaire survey method was used to explore the determinants of formation of network relations.聽Key findings. Determinants rated as stimulators and destimulators appoint the climate of cooperation in a network. Authors indicates variants of configuration of a network supply chain of metallurgical products underlining the key determinants

Maturity of Polish rail intermodal transport as compared to selected EU countries : a comparative analysis

    Get PDF
PURPOSE: The aim of this paper is to propose a maturity construct for rail intermodal transport and, based on it, to present a comparative analysis for Poland and four selected EU countries.DESIGN/METHODOLOGY/APPROACH: The development of intermodal transport is the main assumption of the EU transport policy. It is part of the idea of sustainable development and the aim to reduce the external costs of transport. In Poland, intermodal transport is carried out mainly in the road-rail relation, hence the focus of this paper is on this combination of transport branches. The paper uses a comparative analysis. Two groups of parameters were proposed to describe the construct of intermodal transport maturity. The first describes the level and dynamics of intermodal freight flows. The second indicates the existing infrastructural conditions of performed flows. The analysis allowed to present the level of Poland's intermodal transport maturity against the background of four countries with the highest share of intermodal transport in total freight flows.FINDINGS: The developed construct allowed to assess Poland's maturity in intermodal transport against the background of other European countries. This comparison allowed to indicate possible deviations of Poland from the analyzed countries in the area of the analyzed infrastructural conditions.PRACTICAL IMPLICATIONS: The analysis carried out in this paper allows to point out the directions of further research. They oscillate around the comparison of the maturity of a wider group of countries or regions and extending the research to other forms of intermodal transport.ORIGINALITY/VALUE: The adopted approach to assessing intermodal transport is not limited to the most recognised indicator in literature, i.e., the share of intermodal transport in total freight flows or the comparison of its dynamics in time. Its advantage is the possibility of relating this dynamics to the organizational, legal and economic conditions that constitute the potential for intermodal transport development.peer-reviewe

ASSESSMENT OF CUSTOMER SATISFACTION IN LOGISTIC OPERATORS

Among numerous factors which affect a company's success on the market, the customer satisfaction is an important element. This paper presents a proposal for customer satisfaction assessment procedures which takes into account customer segmentation. A survey was carried out among the customers of the Silesian branch of an international logistic operator. As a result, CSI was measured in selected segments, quality maps were prepared and logistic customer service elements requiring improvement were proposed

Scenarios for the Development of Multimodal Transport in the TRITIA Cross-Border Area

As the demand for transport is growing, more and more attention is being paid to its quality aspects. These include, among other things, efficiency, safety, and a continuous effort to reduce external costs. That is why the transport policies of the EU countries and individual regions are increasingly addressing the issue of sustainable transport development. Multimodal transport, which is seen as a key element to effectively counterbalance the dominant role of vehicle transport in the economic progress of the European Community, plays an important role in these programmes. For consistency and continuity of freight flows, cooperation between neighbouring countries and regions is essential. The future of multimodal freight transport within the cross-border area of Poland, Czech Republic and Slovakia is not as evident as the transport policies imply. Therefore, the purpose of the paper is to identify a set of factors determining the development of multimodal transport within the cross-border area of TRITIA (The European Grouping of Territorial Cooperation of the four regional governments of Moravian-Silesian Region (CZ), Opole Voivodeship (PL), Silesian Voivodeship (PL) and 沤ilina Self-governing Region (SK)) and to develop four scenarios, the execution of which in the 2030 perspective depends on the implementation of cross-border infrastructure and organisational projects and the increasing level of cooperation in the field of multimodal transport. The article contains the methodology for developing scenarios of multimodal freight transport development. The research showed that initiating activities targeted at the development of multimodal transport within the cross-border area requires the involvement of all participants in the process, i.e., all countries (Poland, Czech Republic and Slovakia), along with many different stakeholders. The future development of multimodal transport as provided for in the scenarios is not linearly correlated with the increase in cooperation and the number of implemented infrastructure and organisational projects. It is vital for future research to define the role of stakeholders both in terms of cooperation and collaboration development. Document type: Articl

The Role of Logistic Enterprises in Strengthening the Resilience of Supply Chains

    No full text
The paper discusses the role of logistic enterprises, including especially the transport ones, in strengthening the resilience of supply chains. The research was carried out in the sector of metallurgic products distribution. The paper aims at building a model of strengthening the resilience of supply chains for the flow of products manufactured to order. The author proposed a research methodology involving the measurement of disruptions, the measurement of deviations, a statistical analysis and simulation modelling. In simulation modelling the author used the management system dynamics technique

In these structures it is possible to distinguish central organizations performing the role of the coordinator of the network but often also dominating network. Showing the distribution network resemblances and differences between business models of central enterprises was a purpose of the article
