Digital Offset Calibration of an OPAMP Towards Improving Static Parameters of 90 nm CMOS DAC

    Get PDF
In this paper, an on-chip self-calibrated 8-bit R-2R digital-to-analog converter (DAC) based on digitally compensated input offset of the operational amplifier (OPAMP) is presented. To improve the overall DAC performance, a digital offset cancellation method was used to compensate deviations in the input offset voltage of the OPAMP caused by process variations. The whole DAC as well as offset compensation circuitry were designed in a standard 90 nm CMOS process. The achieved results show that after the self-calibration process, the improvement of 48% in the value of DAC offset error is achieved

Anisotropy of the Microwave Sky at 90 GHz: Results from Python II

    Get PDF
We report on additional observations of degree scale anisotropy at 90~GHz from the Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station in Antarctica. Observations during the first season with the Python instrument yielded a statistically significant sky signal; in this paper we report the confirmation of that signal with data taken in the second year, and on results from an interleaving set of fields.Comment: 10 pages, plus 2 figures. Galactic Foreground Constraints from the Python V Cosmic Microwave Background Anisotropy Data

    Get PDF
We constrain Galactic foreground contamination of the Python V cosmic microwave background anisotropy data by cross correlating it with foreground contaminant emission templates. To model foreground emission we use 100 and 12 μ\mum dust emission templates and two point source templates based on the PMN survey. The analysis takes account of inter-modulation correlations in 8 modulations of the data that are sensitive to a large range of angular scales and also densely sample a large area of sky. As a consequence the analysis here is highly constraining. We find little evidence for foreground contamination in an analysis of the whole data set. However, there is indication that foregrounds are present in the data from the larger-angular-scale modulations of those Python V fields that overlap the region scanned earlier by the UCSB South Pole 1994 experiment. This is an independent consistency cross-check of findings from the South Pole 1994 data.Comment: 15 pages, 1 figure, ApJ accepted versio

Cholinergic suppression: A postsynaptic mechanism of long-term associative learning

    Get PDF
Food avoidance learning in the mollusc Pleurobranchaea entails reduction in the responsiveness of key brain interneurons in the feeding neural circuitry, the paracerebral feeding command interneurons (PCNs), to the neurotransmitter acetylcholine (AcCho). Food stimuli applied to the oral veil of an untrained animal depolarize the PCNs and induce the feeding motor program (FMP). Atropine (a muscarinic cholinergic antagonist) reversibly blocks the food-induced depolarization of the PCNs, implicating AcCho as the neurotransmitter mediating food detection. AcCho applied directly to PCN somata depolarizes them, indicating that the PCN soma membrane contains AcCho receptors and induces the FMP in the isolated central nervous system preparation. The AcCho response of the PCNs is mediated by muscariniclike receptors, since comparable depolarization is induced by muscarinic agonists (acetyl-ß -methylcholine, oxotremorine, pilocarpine), but not nicotine, and blocked by muscarinic antagonists (atropine, trifluoperazine). The nicotinic antagonist hexamethonium, however, blocked the AcCho response in four of six cases. When specimens are trained to suppress feeding behavior using a conventional food-avoidance learning paradigm (conditionally paired food and shock), AcCho applied to PCNs in the same concentration as in untrained animals causes little or no depolarization and does not initiate the FMP. Increasing the concentration of AcCho 10-100 times, however, induces weak PCN depolarization in trained specimens, indicating that learning diminishes but does not fully abolish AcCho responsiveness of the PCNs. This study proposes a cellular mechanism of long-term associative learning -- namely, postsynaptic modulation of neurotransmitter responsiveness in central neurons that could apply also to mammalian species

A study of the mechanisms of corrosion inhibition of AA2024-T3 by vanadates using the split cell technique

    Get PDF
The mechanisms of corrosion inhibition of AA2024-T3 by vanadates were studied in this work using the split cell technique and polarization curves. The electrochemical behavior of clear solutions containing metavanadates and orange solutions containing decavanadates was clearly distinctive. Injection of metavanadates to the cathode side of the different split cell setups greatly reduced the galvanic current, indicating a potent inhibition of the oxygen reduction kinetics. The galvanic current never exhibited a transient current peak, suggesting that metavanadates inhibit AA2024-T3 corrosion by a mechanism that does not involve electrochemical reduction. Injection of metavanadate to the anode side of the different split cells had no effect on the galvanic current. Injection of orange decavanadate to the cathode side of the AA2024-T3 split cell resulted in a large current peak, associated with the electrochemical reduction of decavanadate. However, decavanadates did not impart significant corrosion protection. This work was partially funded by AFOSR under award F 49620-02-0321, Major J. Gresham, PhD, contract monitor. Cosmological Parameter Extraction from the First Season of Observations with DASI

The Degree Angular Scale Interferometer (\dasi) has measured the power spectrum of the Cosmic Microwave Background anisotropy over the range of spherical harmonic multipoles 100<l<900. We compare this data, in combination with the COBE-DMR results, to a seven dimensional grid of adiabatic CDM models. Adopting the priors h>0.45 and 0.0<=tau_c<=0.4, we find that the total density of the Universe Omega_tot=1.04+/-0.06, and the spectral index of the initial scalar fluctuations n_s=1.01+0.08-0.06, in accordance with the predictions of inflationary theory. In addition we find that the physical density of baryons Omega_b.h^2=0.022+0.004-0.003, and the physical density of cold dark matter Omega_cdm.h^2=0.14+/-0.04. This value of Omega_b.h^2 is consistent with that derived from measurements of the primordial abundance ratios of the light elements combined with big bang nucleosynthesis theory. Using the result of the HST Key Project h=0.72+/-0.08 we find that Omega_t=1.00+/-0.04, the matter density Omega_m=0.40+/-0.15, and the vacuum energy density Omega_lambda=0.60+/-0.15. DASI Three-Year Cosmic Microwave Background Polarization Results

We present the analysis of the complete 3-year data set obtained with the Degree Angular Scale Interferometer (DASI) polarization experiment, operating from the Amundsen-Scott South Pole research station. Additional data obtained at the end of the 2002 Austral winter and throughout the 2003 season were added to the data from which the first detection of polarization of the cosmic microwave background radiation was reported. The analysis of the combined data supports, with increased statistical power, all of the conclusions drawn from the initial data set. In particular, the detection of E-mode polarization is increased to 6.3 sigma confidence level, TE cross-polarization is detected at 2.9 sigma, and B-mode polarization is consistent with zero, with an upper limit well below the level of the detected E-mode polarization. The results are in excellent agreement with the predictions of the cosmological model that has emerged from CMB temperature measurements. The analysis also demonstrates that contamination of the data by known sources of foreground emission is insignificant.Comment: 13 pages Latex, 10 figures, submitted to Ap
