Papers from the third international seminar on Ancient Arcadia, held at the Norwegian Institute at Athens, 7-10 May 2002The fragmentary lion statue walled in the facade of the primary school at the village Arachamita was found according to local tradition in the rav委ne Botsona near the v委llage. It 委s made of grey l委mestone, and 委ts preserved he委ght of 70 cm 委nd委cates that 委t comes from the over-lifes委ze statue of a lion. The surface of the protome 委s badly weathered, and on the top of the animal's head 委t 委s almost d委s委ntegrated. In sp委te ot路 the bad cond委tion of the surface certa委n features and 委conograph委cal deta委ls still v委s委ble can be used as chronolog委cal ev委dence and 委ndicate a date around the end of the 5th century B.C. The lion statue may very possibly be assoc委ated w委th the Ma委nalian settlement Pera委theiS, recently ident委f委ed with the terr委tory of the v委llage Aracham委ta. Although only mere conjectures can be made concerning 委ts funct委on, 委t seems probable that the 螜委慰畏 statue was erected on a polyandrion rather than on a蟺 委nd委v委dual grave
