Evaluating the performance of university faculty is a hard task because of the diversity of the work performed. The authors assume that the founder of the university evaluates the effectiveness of the university according to performing the teaching staff. The aim of the study is to improve the monitoring of key performance indicators of the university teaching staff based on data management. The authors present an information system to support decision-making related to the teaching staff at Kemerovo State University. The authors of the paper describe creating such a system using Business Intelligence technologies step by step. The authors identified data sources, designed the structure of the data mart and built ETL-processes for its filling, implemented various analytical dashboards. Implementing the information system in the daily activities of the university allows responding promptly to changes in the key indicators, forecasting their further change, deciding on activation of efforts in the chosen direction or types of work

Hydrodynamic analysis of an unsteady pressureless filtration flow in earth cofferdams

Non-pressure filtration flows with a free surface, on which the fluid pressure is a constant and equal to the external atmospheric pressure, are essential characteristic of groundwater filtration through such hydraulic structures as, dams, water drawdowns, drains, foundations, and pits during their drain. The problems of fluid filtration in porous media are distinguished by a variety of boundary conditions for the desired complex filtration potential, geometric and physical characteristics of the filtration flow. Solving such problems by analytical methods becomes significantly more complicated due to the nonlinearity of the equation describing the filtration movement, the presence of a free surface and the geometry of the slopes of the structure. An alternative to their solution is the use of numerical methods for estimating unsteady free-flow filtration flows. This research is dedicated to developing a hydrodynamic analysis approach of the process of unsteady filtration by the methods of computational fluid dynamics on the example of a rectangular cofferdam of various configurations to apply the results in the design of hydraulic structures. Numerical modeling of an unsteady free-flow filtration in a rectangular cofferdam using the finite volume URANS method (ANSYS FLUENT) and finite-element method (PLAXIS 2D) was carried out. The depression curve evolution through time was obtained. Also, numerical results have been compared both with the experimental results and classical theoretical assumptions. Was found that the constructed models both for finite-volume and finite-element methods are consistent enough with the experimental data, and on the other hand, theoretical assumptions don’t agree with experimental and numerical data. Further, the filtration patterns in rectangular cofferdams with different drain positions were obtained using the developed calculation model, which allows to choose the most effective drain position for different purposes

Cooling of a battery pack of a car, working on renewable energy

    No full text
The aim of the work is to choose a method of a solar car battery cooling. The student engineering team of Peter the Great Petersburg Polytechnic University designs the car. The analysis of the electrical circuit of the battery is carried out, the heat release is estimated due to three factors. According to the conditions of reliable operation of the battery, it is necessary to maintain its temperature range below 45°C, which requires cooling. The paper analyzes the possibilities of liquid, air-cooling, compares the free and forced methods of convective heat transfer. For the normal operating mode of the electric vehicle, environmental temperature at the level up to 38°C, a criterion thermal engineering calculation of the forced air-cooling of the corridor assembly of 405 battery cells providing the required heat dissipation is performed. It is shown that relatively high values of the heat transfer coefficient are provided under turbulent flow conditions characterized by Reynolds criteria above 103. On the basis of an analysis of the steady-state stationary heat-removal regime, it was concluded that an air flow provides a temperature gradient, sufficient for cooling the lithium-ion battery of a Solar Car «Polytech Solar»

Musical Genre Classification using Modified Wavelet-like Features and Support Vector Machines

    No full text
International audienceThere are two major stages in musical genre classification: feature extraction and classification. While the second stage implies a choice of a variety of machine leaning methods (SVMs, neural networks, etc), the first stage plays crucial part in perfomance and accuracy of the classification system, providing much more creativity in development of different feature extraction methods. In this paper we present initial study of feature extraction based on wavelets and pseudo-wavelets in the area of musical genre classification. A new type of feature vector, based on continuous wavelet and wavelet-like transform of input audio data is proposed. Support vector machine was used as a classifier for testing the feature extraction procedure. The results of our experimental study are shown

Multi-Skin Adaptive Ventilated Facade: A Review

    No full text
Multi-skin ventilated facades with integrated building elements that respond to climatic conditions (mechanized openings and automatic shading with intelligent control) present the potential of improving overall annual energy savings by adapting the thermal properties of buildings. This paper presents a literature review on multi-skin adaptive ventilated facades. Additionally, this article presents a literature review on building envelopes that contain inner-air layers. The operation modes of the air layer used in building enclosure structures are classified and summarized and the thermal performance and benefits of climate-adaptive facades are discussed and reviewed. The existing operation modes of the air layer used in building envelopes are summarized, outlined and roughly classified into the following types: the enclosed type, the naturally ventilated type and the mechanically ventilated type. One of the sustainable development trends is the investigation and application of energy-efficient climate-adaptive facades. In this study, the energy modeling of a high-rise office building was calculated using the Green Building Studio. The annual energy, the annual CO2 emissions, and life cycle energy for the following three types of facade were estimated: a single-layer facade made of three-layer glass with argon, a double ventilated facade, and a triple ventilated facade with a double chamber. The calculation results show that the annual energy of the building with an adaptive triple-skin facade could be reduced by 15% compared with buildings with a single skin facade
