    Get PDF
The paper presents a regional comparative analysis of agricultural products transported by truck among five states - Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Nebraska, and South Dakota in 1997 and 2002. Sections of the paper include a brief history of the trucking industry, an outline of inefficiencies in truck transportation, discussion on the uniformity of trucking regulations, and analysis of the value and tonnage of commodities transported within the five-state region. The comparison reveals Nebraska is a major source of agricultural commodities for its neighbors and the country as a whole

Using Interactive Digital Wall (iWall) Technology to Promote Active Learning Garrat Cheryl Thompson (UNMC), Suhasini Kotcherlakota (UNMC), Patrick Rejda (UNMC), Paul Dye (UNMC) UNMC\u27s iWall technology bridges College of Nursing campuses across the state. The multi-taction iWall consists of from 9-12 high resolution video panels. These panels provide interactive monitor space on which to project class content and simultaneously allow instructor and student interaction with content. The iWalls across the state are connected, allowing interactions between students in different locations. Students at home or sites without iWall are able to view and participate in class activities via webinar technology. This presentation will discuss the use of iWall within the UNMC iEXCEL Visualization Hub to teach information mapping. Time will be allotted for questions and to discuss attendee proposals for use of such technology

The Effect Of NAFTA On Trade And Investment Between Member Countries

    Get PDF
Literature is full of studies on the relationship between trade and investment. Since trade agreements have the potential of altering this relationship, this study employed gravity model analysis to determine how NAFTA might have affected trade and investment among member countries. Overall improvement in NAFTA economy enhanced exports in the region; however, it was relative improvement in domestic economy that attracted foreign investment. Responsiveness plots show that the impact of NAFTA on exports was short lived, but was longer on FDI

The THRIVE collection is intended to help faculty thrive in their roles as educators, scholars, researchers, and clinicians. Each section contains a variety of thought-provoking topics that are designed to be easily digested, guide personal reflection, and put into action. Please use the THRIVE collection to help: Individuals study topics on their own, whenever and wherever they want Peer-mentoring or other learning communities study topics in small groups Leaders and planners strategically insert faculty development into existing meetings Faculty identify campus experts for additional learning, grand rounds, etc. If you have questions or want additional information on a topic, simply contact the article author or email [email protected]://digitalcommons.unmc.edu/facdev_books/1000/thumbnail.jp

A test of strategies for enhanced learning of descriptive chemistry

    No full text
The Advanced Placement (AP) Descriptive Chemistry Website allows students to repeatedly practice chemistry problems. The current study involves the redesign of the AP Descriptive Chemistry Website using worked examples to enhance learner performance. The population sample for the study includes students interested in learning descriptive chemistry materials. Students’ usage patterns with the Website were analyzed to assess learner performance using the Independent Samples t-test. No important differences were found in learning between the worked example and more conventional strategies

Topic specific spider for taxonomic documents

Thesis (M.S.)--University of Kansas, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, 2007.The overall goal of the project being developed at KU as a part of SEEK is to provide an interface tool for a taxonomist through which he/she can obtain taxonomic revisions depending for the species provided to the system. This thesis, in particular, aims to develop a subsystem that collects taxonomic documents available on the World Wide Web using a combination of spidering and document classification techniques. To increase the number of documents collected, two query expansion techniques have been considered and evaluated. We found that generic query expansion performed better than the taxonomically expanded queries. Also, we show that filtering helps improve the performance of the system by reducing the number of non-taxonomic documents that are presented to the end-user
