Landscape-friendly method of founding wooden buildings for recreational use

    No full text
When structures in the landscape based on concrete foundations are removed, the foundations are usually left in the ground, but the environment is degraded. The article focuses on the possibilities of foundations in the natural environment nowadays, when we can found buildings on earth screws. This is a way of founding buildings that will be more environmentally friendly. Using earth screws instead of concrete is a modern and eco-friendly option for founding a building or structure. They can also be used in terrain that is difficult to access. With the help of screws we can anchor an information board, a playground, a shelter, a fence, noise barriers, as well as footbridges and bridges or other wooden structures, e.g. even a modular wooden toilet building. If we decide to demolish or move the building, the screws can be unscrewed and the environment can remain intact. Another advantage is the speed of construction, compared to concrete foundations.Published Versio

Wood moisture monitoring during log house thermal insulation mounting

    No full text
The current designs of thermal insulation for buildings concentrate on the achievement of the required heat transmission coefficient. However, another factor that cannot be neglected is the assessment of the possible water vapour condensation inside the construction. The aim of the study was to find out whether the designed modification of the cladding structure of an existing log house will or will not lead to a risk of possible water vapour condensation in the walls after an additional thermal insulation mounting. The condensation could result in the increase in moisture of the walls and consequently the constructional timber, which would lead to the reduction of the timber construction strength, wood degradation by biotic factors – wood-destroying insects, mildew or wood-destroying fungi. The main task was to compare the theoretically established values of moisture of the constructional timber with the values measured inside the construction using a specific example of a thermal insulated log house. Three versions of thermal insulation were explored to find the solution of a log house reconstruction which would be the optimum for living purposes. Two versions deal with the cladding structure with the insulation from the interior, the third version deals with an external insulation. In a calculation model the results can be affected to a great degree by input values (boundary conditions). This especially concerns the factor of vapour barrier diffusion resistance, which is entered in accordance with the producer’s specifications; however, its real value can be lower as it depends on the perfectness and correctness of the technological procedure. That is why the study also includes thermal technical calculations of all designed insulation versions in the most unfavourable situation, which includes the degradation of the vapour barrier down to 10% efficiency, i.e. the reduction of the diffusion resistance factor to 10% of the original value. Moreover, the dependence of the weight moisture of timber inside the insulated cladding on temperature-moisture changes in the internal and external ambient environment was examined

Questionnaire Evaluation of Selected Parameters of Forest Recreational Trails Suitable for Wheelchair Users in Slovakia and in the Czech Republic

The article presents the results of a survey on the preferences of disabled people in wheelchairs for selected features of recreational trails in forests. The study was conducted in in the years 2015 and 2016 with a sample of 109 people from Slovakia and from the Czech Republic (57 respondents in Slovakia and 52 in the Czech Republic). The questions in the survey were designed to determine the preferences concerned in this article: answers regarding the optimal length of the route for one trip and the distance between the accompanying trail elements (information signs, shelters etc.) are presented. We have observed differences between the respondents’ preferences in Slovakia and the Czech Republic in the preferred length of the trail. On the other hand, preferences in the distance between the accompanying elements on the trail in the forest did not differ. Respondents in the Czech Republic prefer far longer routes, with relatively larger distances between the recreational elements. The results will be used in the future for designing optimal trails for visitors on wheelchairs in the Masaryk Forest Křtiny, property of the Mendel University in Brno

Geo-caching for wheelchair users :a pilot study in Luhačovské Zálesí (Czech Republic)

An optional leisure activity in the countryside for wheelchair users is subject to discussion b in this article. Geocaching is a leisure activity on the borders between tourism and sport, which appeals to a growing proportion of peoples globally. It can become a prospective part of social tourism as a leisure activity for persons with disabilities: this paper devotes attention to wheelchair users. In this research project we analysed how terrain difficulty and its markings reflect on the availability of caches to be gained by wheelchair users. The aim of the field survey was to verify if the caches indicated by the difficulty of the terrain (terrain level: 1 and 1.5) can be considered available for disabled people. The availability of the caches was also assessed based on the presence (aid) of an assistant. We found that access to most of the easily available caches contains small but critical constraints for wheelchair users - from path bumps to the very cache locations which are unreachable for wheelchair users. Therefore, we have proposed a set of recommendations and pictograms to make geocaching more available for persons using wheelchairs and to expand their opportunities for active outdoor leisure activity. The results will be used to design access to natural sites for wheelchair users.274

Dílčí závěrečná zpráva dokumentuje rezultáty cílů ve zpracovatelské kompetenci spolunositele, Ústavu tvorby a ochrany krajiny Mendelovy zemědělské a lesnické univerzity v Brně. Specifikace cílů a adekvátních vědeckých metodických postupů byla směrována do reprezentativních modelových území, která tvoří záměrově charakteristická povodí Hučinky a Lesního potoka o rozloze cca 6 km čtverečních. Metodické postupy řešení jsou vyděleny do samostatných tvůrčích celků, specifikovaných pro hydriku území, lesní dopravní síť a celospolečenské funkce lesa. Návrhová část projektu podává věcná doporučení
