RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN MUSCULAR OUTPUTS AND THE HORIZONTAL PERTURBATION IN THE EARLY PHASE OF BENCH PRESS MOVEMENT UNDER STABLE AND UNSTABLE CONDITIONS
We demonstrated the relationship between the change rates of muscular outputs and horizontal perturbation under stable and unstable conditions in dynamic bench press movement. Twenty-seven male collegiate athletes attended the study. We used a tri-axis accelerometer attached to the barbell shaft to obtain the acceleration data in the bench press and computed peak force output, rate of force development (RFD), and horizontal acceleration trajectory length for 0.2 seconds after the initiation. Significant reduction was found in the peak force output and RFD under stable and unstable conditions, but not in the horizontal acceleration trajectory length. CuPc Adsorption on Au(110)-(1 × 2): From a Monomer to a Periodic Chain
Using scanning tunneling microscopy (STM), we study the adsorption of copper-phthalocyanine (CuPc) on the anisotropic Au(110)-(1 × 2) surface as a function of coverage. For the initial adsorption at room temperature, we observe CuPc monomers as well as a molecular chain that forms along the step edge. By STM manipulation, we reveal that the CuPc adsorption is accompanied by surface reconstruction from the initial adsorption stage; the periodicity beneath the monomer and the chain changes locally from (1 × 2) to (1 × 1) and (1 × 3), respectively. This finding highlights that the Au atom mobility of the surface plays an essential role in CuPc adsorption. At higher coverage, we observe the development of CuPc chains along the [110] direction on the terrace with periodicities of (7 × 5) and (5 × 5), and compare the obtained results with those from the previous studies by diffraction methods
The Infrared Cloud Monitor for the MAGNUM Robotic Telescope at Haleakala
We present the most successful infrared cloud monitor for a robotic
telescope. This system was originally developed for the MAGNUM 2-m telescope,
which has been achieving unmanned and automated monitoring observation of
active galactic nuclei at Haleakala on the Hawaiian island of Maui since 2001.
Using a thermal imager and two aspherical mirrors, it at once sees almost the
whole sky at a wavelength of . Its outdoor part is
weather-proof and is totally maintenance-free. The images obtained every one or
two minutes are analysed immediately into several ranks of weather condition,
from which our automated observing system not only decides to open or close the
dome, but also selects what types of observations should be done. The whole-sky
data accumulated over four years show that 5060 % of all nights are
photometric, and about 75 % are observable with respect to cloud condition at
Haleakala. Many copies of this system are now used all over the world such as

Higher order glass-transition singularities in colloidal systems with attractive interactions
The transition from a liquid to a glass in colloidal suspensions of particles
interacting through a hard core plus an attractive square-well potential is
studied within the mode-coupling-theory framework. When the width of the
attractive potential is much shorter than the hard-core diameter, a reentrant
behavior of the liquid-glass line, and a glass-glass-transition line are found
in the temperature-density plane of the model. For small well-width values, the
glass-glass-transition line terminates in a third order bifurcation point, i.e.
in a A_3 (cusp) singularity. On increasing the square-well width, the
glass-glass line disappears, giving rise to a fourth order A_4 (swallow-tail)
singularity at a critical well width. Close to the A_3 and A_4 singularities
the decay of the density correlators shows stretching of huge dynamical

Synthesis of p- and n-type Gels Doped with Ionic Charge Carriers
In this study, we synthesized the new kinds of semiconducting polymeric gels having negative (n-type) and positive (p-type) counter ions as charge carriers. The polyacrylamide gel was doped with pyranine (8-hydroxypyrene-1,3,6-trisulfonic acid, trisodium salt), havingions as side groups and Na+ as counter ions, so-called p-type semiconducting gel. The doping process was performed during the polymerization where the pyranine binds to the polymer strands over OH group chemically via radical addition. In a similar way, N-isopropylacrylamide (NIPA) gel was doped with methacrylamidopropyltrimethyl ammonium chloride (MAPTAC), having Cl− as counter ions, so-called n-type semiconducting gel. Here MAPTAC was embedded by copolymerization within the polymer network (NIPA). These semiconducting gels can show different electrical properties by changing the concentration of the doping agents, swelling ratio etc. We have shown that the pn junction, formed by combining p-type and n-type gels together in close contact, rectifies the current similar to the conventional Si and Ge diodes
Perioperative Complications After Aorto-iliac Stenting: Associated Factors and Impact on Follow-up Cardiovascular Prognosis
ObjectivesTo investigate factors associated with 30-day perioperative complications (POC) after aorto-iliac (AI) stenting, and to compare follow-up cardiovascular prognosis between patients with and without POC.Materials and methodsThis was a retrospective multicenter study. We used a multicenter database of 2012 consecutive patients who successfully underwent AI stenting for peripheral arterial disease in 18 centers in Japan from January 2005 to December 2009 to analyze independent predictors of POC and impact of POC on prognosis by logistic regression and a Cox proportional hazard regression model, respectively.ResultsMean age was 71 ± 9 years (median: 72 years; range: 37–98 years), and 1,636 patients (81%) were men. POC occurred in 126 patients (6.3%). In multivariate logistic regression analysis, old age (≥80 years), critical limb ischemia (CLI), and Trans Atlantic Inter-Societal Consensus (TASC) II class C/D were independently associated with POC with adjusted odds ratios and 95% confidence intervals (CI) of 1.9 (1.3–2.9), 2.3 (1.5–3.4), and 2.4 (1.6–3.4), respectively. Out of 2012 patients, 1995 were followed up for more than 30 days (mean: 2.6 ± 1.5 years; range: 2–2,393 days). In a Cox hazard regression model adjusted for baseline clinical characteristics, POC was positively and independently associated with follow-up major adverse cardiac events (adjusted hazard ratio [HR]: 1.9; 95% CI: 1.3–2.8; p = .002), but not with major adverse limb events and target lesion revascularization (adjusted HR: 1.4; 95% CI: 0.7–2.7; p = .25; and adjusted HR: 1.2; 95% CI 0.6–2.6; p = .568), respectively.ConclusionsAge >80 years, CLI, and TASC C/D lesion were positively associated with POC after AI stenting. Occurrence of POC appears to adversely affect follow-up cardiovascular, but not limb and vessel prognosis
The Hyper Suprime-Cam SSP Survey: Overview and Survey Design
Hyper Suprime-Cam (HSC) is a wide-field imaging camera on the prime focus of
the 8.2m Subaru telescope on the summit of Maunakea in Hawaii. A team of
scientists from Japan, Taiwan and Princeton University is using HSC to carry
out a 300-night multi-band imaging survey of the high-latitude sky. The survey
includes three layers: the Wide layer will cover 1400 deg in five broad
bands (), with a point-source depth of . The
Deep layer covers a total of 26~deg in four fields, going roughly a
magnitude fainter, while the UltraDeep layer goes almost a magnitude fainter
still in two pointings of HSC (a total of 3.5 deg). Here we describe the
instrument, the science goals of the survey, and the survey strategy and data
processing. This paper serves as an introduction to a special issue of the
Publications of the Astronomical Society of Japan, which includes a large
number of technical and scientific papers describing results from the early

Multiple Regression Analysis of the Variable Component in the Near-Infrared Region for Type 1 AGN MCG+08-11-011
We propose a new method of analysing a variable component for type 1 active
galactic nuclei (AGNs) in the near-infrared wavelength region. This analysis
uses a multiple regression technique and divides the variable component into
two components originating in the accretion disk at the center of AGNs and from
the dust torus that far surrounds the disk. Applying this analysis to the
long-term monitoring data of MCG+08-11-011 that were obtained by the
MAGNUM project, we found that the -color temperature of the dust
component is K K, which agrees with the sublimation
temperature of dust grains, and that the time delay of to variations is
days, which indicates the existence of a radial temperature
gradient in the dust torus. As for the disk component, we found that the
power-law spectrum of in the to near-infrared
bands varies with a fixed index of -- +0.4, which is
broadly consistent with the irradiated standard disk model. The outer part of
the disk therefore extends out to a radial distance where the temperature
