    Analysis of electric field and emission spectrum in the glow discharge of therapeutic plasma electrode

    Gas-filled glass plasma electrodes coupled with high-frequency high-voltage generators are used in medicine and dentistry for more than a century. In recent literature, therapeutic effects of such procedure have been explained through topical bio-oxidative effects of ozone generated by the dielectric barrier discharge. The aim of this study was to evaluate characteristics of electric field and optical emission spectrum generated in the treatment field by the glow discharge of the plasma electrode. Emission spectrum in red and near-infrared wavelength range (540ā€“886 nm) and pulsed electric field (impulse frequency 1053 Hz, exponentially damped sine wave in the range of 33 kHz, duty cycle 20%) were recorded. Estimated electric field strength at 1-mm distance was in the range from 5.8 to 13.7 kV/m and between 106 and 108 V/m in the close proximity of electrodeā€™s surface (below 0.01 mm). Recorded factors are integral constituents in the treatment field and their properties can be correlated to the known biological and therapeutic effects of photostimulation and electrostimulation. These factors present important bioactive components which could be responsible for therapeutic effects, reported in number of clinical studies, especially those which could not be explained through topical bio-oxidative effects of ozone

    Predložena je nova jednostavna metoda plamene atomsko-apsorpcijske spektrometrije (FAAS), za simultano određivanje željeza i bakra u serumu djece. Ona se temelji na predobradbi uzorka u jednom koraku (deproteinizacija s 3 mol Lā€“3 HCl u odnosu 1:1) i kalibraciji u jednom koraku sa standardom pripravljenim u 1.5 mol Lā€“3 HCl. Tijekom optimizacije metode primijenjen je multifaktorski dizajnirani eksperiment. Preporučena metoda osigurava ispravnost, osjetljivost i preciznost usporedljivu onima referentnih metoda. Novi je pristup jednostavan i brz; on Å”tedi i vrijeme i reagense i uzorke, pri čemu je potonje posebno važno u dječjoj dijagnostici.A new and simple flame atomic-absorption spectrometric (FAAS) method is proposed for simultaneous determination of iron and copper in children's sera. It is based on single-step sample pretreatment (deproteinization with 3 mol Lā€“1 HCl, ratio 1:1) and single-step calibration using 1.5 mol Lā€“1 HCl standard. During methodā€™s optimization a short multifactorial design experiment was used. The proposed method assures accuracy, sensitivity and precision comparable to that of the reference methods. The new approach is simple and time-, labour- and serum-saving, the latter being especially important in pediatric diagnostics

    Attitudes of sports coaches toward deafness as an indicator of creating an inclusive climate

    Introduction. An inclusive approach to sports means opening up opportunities for deaf people to participate in sports activities equally to the hearing population. The paper deals with attitudes toward deafness from the perspective of sports coaches, who represent an important factor in creating an inclusive sports environment. Objectives. The aim of this research was to determine the orientation of sports coaches' attitudes toward deafness. As part of the research tasks, attitudes were examined in relation to age, gender, level of education and the type of sport the coaches practice. Methods. The research was conducted on a sample of 39 participants within the population of sports coaches. The sample consisted mostly of male subjects (66.7 %) 24 to 60 years of age, with the average age being 30.8 (SD = 7.61). Most participants completed undergraduate academic studies (43.6%). The majority of the sample were team sports coaches (82.1%). The Attitudes to Deafness Scale was used as an instrument. Results. The results showed that sports coaches were neutral in their attitudes toward deafness. Age, gender, level of education, and the type of sport did not appear to be significant factors in their attitudes toward deafness. Conclusion. Future research can focus on tests that will test the presence and influence of joint contact between sports coaches and deaf people on their attitudes toward deafness. The dominance of neutral and negative attitudes potentially represents an obstacle to the social inclusion of the deaf through sports and challenges experts dealing with the deaf population to subtly influence the change of attitudes of sports coaches toward deafness in adequate ways

    Quaternary fault activity in the SW Pannonian Basin : GPR surveying in the Bilogora Mt. (NE Croatia)

    In areas experiencing low deformation rates, landscapes provide limited evidence of ongoing tectonic activity, being either masked or altered by exogenic processes. Accordingly, the identification of fault activity and near surface deformation is commonly accomplished by multidisciplinary research combining geological, geophysical and geomorphic methods. In this study, Quaternary fault activity in the SW Pannonian Basin is investigated in the region of Bilogora, NE Croatia. The study area is positioned along the SW margin of the Drava Depression that was uplifted during the Pliocene and Quaternary within the Drava Depression Boundary Fault Zone. In this fault zone six GPR profiles were recorded. Reflection patterns, radar facies and truncations determined fault activity and near-surface deformation at four locations with vertical displacements of ā‰¤1 m. At two sites, profiles did not show truncation of the shallowest reflections, however, an elevation difference of ca. 10 m between two palaeostream channels along one of the profiles suggests Quaternary uplift accommodated by a mapped fault. Considering the importance of the seismogenic potential of active faults and their correlation with the seismicity of Bilogora, this research will be followed by additional studies of near-surface strata deformation and palaeoseismological fault properties

    Investigation of N-H center dot center dot center dot O interactions in N-monosubstituted caproamide - Ether systems: FT-IR and FT-NIR spectroscopic study

    This paper reports FT-IR and FT-NIR spectroscopic study of hydrogen bonding between N-mono-substituted caproamides and different ethers (diethyl ether and tetrahydrofuran) in carbon tetrachloride. With increase in ether concentration increase in intensity of red-shifted band, and decrease of intensity of monomer band has been observed. The MIR and NIR spectroscopic characteristics for N-H center dot center dot center dot O hydrogen bonded complexes and also the equilibrium constants for 1:1 complex formation are given. Further, influence of structural differences of ethers on hydrogen bonding was investigated using Taft equation. Good correlation between logarithm of formation constants and Taft steric and inductive factors has been obtained only for tetrahydrofuran in MIR range

    FTIR investigation of solvent effects of N-methyl and N-tert-butyl benzamide

    Infrared spectroscopy studies of N-methyl benzamide and N-tert-butyl benzamide in 12 organic solvents were undretaken to investigate solvent-solute interactions. The wavenumbers of carbonyl stretching vibration nu(C=O) in different solvents were correlated with the solvent acceptor number (AN), the linear solvation energy relationships (LSER), Catalan solvent parameters (SA, SB and SPP) and Buckingham equation. For both studied amides significant correlation of the position of the carbonyl band with empirical parameters was obtained. Based on obtained results it was assumed that the amide self-association and the steric effects are most important factors that determine position of carbonyl groups band in the IR spectra

    Experimental and computational study of polycrystalline LiInO2 structure vibration properties

    Polycrystalline LiInO2 was synthesized by the solid-state method and was characterized using combined experimental and computational methods. The results of experimental measurements were compared with the computational analysis of lattice vibrations based on DFT calculations.     Polymeric Copper(II) Complexes with a Newly Synthesized Biphenyldicarboxylic Acid Schiff Base Ligand—Synthesis, Structural and Thermal Characterization

    The newly synthesized biphenyldicarboxylic acid Schiff base and its complexes with Cu(II) were synthesized, and their spectroscopic and structural analysis was performed. The reaction of the ligand and copper(II) acetate in different solvents resulted in the formation of two solvatomorphic complexes, one with MeOH, and the other with DMF molecules, in the crystal lattice. The differences in the results of the thermal analysis could be explained by the different polarities of the solvents present. SC-XRD analysis revealed that the ligand is coordinated as a dianion, in a pentadentate manner, through two phenoxide oxygen atoms, two azomethine nitrogen atoms, and with the oxygen atom of one carboxylate functioning as a bridge that connects the monomeric units. The coordination polyhedron was described with several parameters obtained from different methods of calculation. The presence of different solvents in the crystal structure results in differences in the H-bond networks, and an overall different crystal packing of the structural units in the obtained complexes
